Mission: The American affiliate of Green Cross International, Global Green was founded in 1994 with a mission to foster a global value shift toward a sustainable and secure future by reconnecting humanity with the environment.
Guided by a set of holistic principles that address both the inadequate social conditions of many communities and the need for increased environmental responsibility, Global Green works extensively with neighborhood organizations, local non- and for-profits, community development corporations, architects, financial institutions, and government agencies at the local, state, and national level to promote healthier, greener environments that not only greatly improve quality of life but also act as models of inspiration for communities across the globe.
As a result, Global Green has become a national leader in promoting sustainable development practices in urban environments.
Results: Global Green's national offices work together to mitigate global warming through the establishment of affordable green homes, green schools, and sustainable neighborhoods as well as by the advancement of national and regional green building policies, environmental advocacy, and education. This has resulted in policies which have generated over $20 billion in funding for public construction, $520 million in solar subsidies, and up to $500 million in annual energy savings.
Geographic areas served: Global Green is a national organization that helps address climate changes in cities throughout the United States. Though national in focus, Global Green also works with communities across the globe to bring smart and sustainable solutions to areas of great need.
Programs: Green Cities. Green Homes. Green Schools. Energy Efficiency and Solar Power. Global Initiatives. Recycling.
I had an intern with Global Green when I was in college. And I actually took a course taught by the staff of Global Green. From these experiences, I can tell that Global Green truly cares about the environment and always does its best to make a difference. I am very grateful to what I learned and experienced while I interned with Global Green. Also, everyone in the organization was very friendly and passionate about what they are doing. Global Green is indeed a great organization.
