Global Fund for Women

Ebenezer women groups. We plays a leading role in advancing women rights by making grants that support and strengthen women around our country. We teach young women their rights, how to take care of their health, and how to start off business. Also as the chairwoman and founder of this group I have been able to go around village's and towns meeting with women. As may aim is to help them physiologically, then teach them their rights, also I have been teaching them how to be un entrepreneur. I thanks God I have reach most of my plan. Because I have been able to give them capital to start small business and I thanks God for this because most of them they have reach their goals.
Am looking for the donors so they an help me or us reach to all women who are abused, raped and forced to be married to help them in four ways : physiologically, medical treatment, to know their right, to teach them on how to start off business and to have self confidence also to be able to grant them capital.
May dreams to reach to all African young women and to be able to help them and to be their voices.
As for now i have a started in my country - Tanzania and our group has 430 members.

I admire Global Fund both for its mission and its execution. The channeling of money to organizations working to solve women's (and thereby families' issues) is an efficient, ingenious and moral way to help women country by country with their most pressing needs, from personal safety and health, to economic empowerment, to political participation. Global Fund is the organization that does this in a big way, with compassion and intelligent evaluations of need. And it tells the stories so people everywhere can connect to the courage and determination of those who are trying to change their lives and communities for the better. Kudos to all those within Global Fund who make it possible for us to contribute to them. Kudos to those who use those funds to make a difference.

The organization I write about is the Alif Laila Book Bus Society in Lahore, Pakistan. The Global Fund for Women has supported our work and believed in our cause of innovative education for young girls for close to two decades. We have found this support holding us up at crucial financial times repeatedly! A truly empathic organization!

I was inspired to first donate to the Global Fund for Women over 25 years ago. It has grown with grace and integrity, reaching out to women everywhere, offering support through grants and leading by example. The work they do throughout the world is vital to our future. I trust the Global Fund to wisely use my donation to improve women's lives, so they may nurture themselves, their children and the planet.

It is one of the most supportive organizations to the women's movement I have ever known. GFW has amazing sisterhood approach to the women and women's organizations around the world and their input to positive changes of women is great. I have known this organization for 10 years and admire their work, energy and enthusiasm. I am very happy and proud to be a member of big GFW family.

I have been a long-time donor to Global Fund for Women. I LOVE this organization!! They operate with the highest integrity and commitment to women around the world, of which there are many who are making immense contributions not only to women in their region but also to women in their country!

Akili Dada, a women's leadership organization based in Kenya, has been a grantee of the Global Fund since 2010. We are honored to be recognized and supported by an organization that furthers women's rights around the world. As a startup nonprofit, we have been working on entering the next phase of our story - as we serve more and more young women in Kenya with leadership training, we are proud to know that Global Fund for Women upholds the work we do. They helped fund our 1st annual strategic planning retreat in July 2010 and contributed again this year for an organizational development retreat for our women-led organization. The retreat brought together our staff (from Kenya and the U.S.), board members (from U.S., Kenya, and Uganda), scholars who have received our leadership training, and advisory council members. The result was an intensive and productive session of planning and strategizing.

We look forward to continuing to strengthen our ties with Global Fund as our two organizations work to empower women around the world.

The Global Fund for Women has graciously funded some of Roots of Health's work with women and children in the Philippines. The organization seems truly interested in our work and we really appreciate the fact that they are willing to fund existing projects. When contacted their staff have been friendly and efficient. As a grantee our organization, we have also received a list of possible donors, which has been helpful in our fundraising efforts.

Yevgeniya Kozyreva: Global Found for Women is one of few structures in the world which purposefully and on a regular basis supports women's groups working on promotion of the female rights. At support Global Found for Women our group had an opportunity to organize women's organizations of Kazakhstan for a writing of the first and second alternative reports under the CEDAW Convention; to develop the bill « About the equal rights for women and men of Republic Kazakhstan » and to lobby for its acceptance in Parliament. This progressive, vital work for citizens of our country would be impossible without advisory and financial support Global Found for Women.

Global Fund for Women is a well-known organization in the region of South Caucasus. It is known as an organization assisting local women’s organizations and initiative groups to develop their capacities and through that to empower other women in the region. With the assistance of Global Fund for Women many women in Armenia developed their career skills, found jobs, have participated in the trainings on women’s rights and initiated their own projects and activities. The presence of GFW in our region is making a real difference and bringing very positive changes in the lifestyles of ordinary women. Thank you for empowering women and making them stronger!

Global Fund for Women for many years has been helping women in my part of the world i.e. Central and Eastern Europe and former Soviet Union. Their activity is deeply valued by women in such countries as Poland, Ukraine or Georgia as Global Fund is supporting feminist initiatives, also those not formally registered and those acting on a grass-root level. They were working with women in our region when we were in a transition period after the fall of totalitarian regimes and also now when because of the economic crisis only the biggest organizations are able to meet the requirements of the European funding. An example of a project funded by the Global Fund is South Baltic - Violence Free Zone which allowed to create better support for women victims of domestic violence in our region. The process of granting the funds is very open and transparent and I have often heard that the Global Fund is more a group of friends for the women's groups than a founder.

Global Fund for Women is a wonderful organization that supports women's advocacy organizations around the world. What makes their work unique is the way that they connect women's organizations that are doing innovative work to uplift marginalized women with the necessary funds to further enhance their capacity to initiate change. Rather than choosing to fund projects or groups that are of interest to them, they really listen to what women leaders around the world are saying they need and envision. Global Fund for Women decides to support the solutions and initiatives that have been locally innovated by women's groups. More non-profits should follow their model--listening to and supporting local women's initiatives--rather than trying to design their own initiatives from afar, lacking a whole, integrated understanding of the complex issues that affect women's human rights.

The GFW is the best funder for women's organizations. It is trustful, reliable, fair. This is an organization that makes you feel important and visible in all parts of the world even if you are from a small and new NGO. They manage to support so many women from so much different backgrounds...sometimes I thing the women's organizations from the CEE survive only thanks to the continuing suport of the GFW.

I work with Inkworks Press, a worker-owned and collectively managed printing company in Berkeley. We have printed for Global Fund for Women for many years, and deeply appreciate working with them. Not only is their mission consistent with ours, but they're delightful people to work with. We'd love more customers like them.

I can't talk about Global Fund for Women without talking about people there. In last seven years that I'm part of Reconstruction Women's Fund from Serbia and continuously cooperate with GWF, I had a chance to meet 3 Program Directors and 2 Program Officers for Europe and Central Asia (Annie, Angelika, Violeta, Katka, Betsy) and to be amazed with the enthusiasm, energy, creativity, dedication, wisdom, strong feminist politics that I saw in each of them. If GWF respects such a human/woman values that these people bring with themselves, I'm not surprised that they are the champions of the global social change.

I have been acquainted with people of GFW for 11 years already, in a variety of positions: trainee, country advisor, colleague, grantee. In my perspective, GEW's special merit is that She manages to maintain an unbroken link between ultimate receivers and the elite of global women's movement. If we extend this chain with including donors of GFW, we will see that She supports both ends in their activity for such a worthy cause as ensuring rights and freedoms of the majority and democracy building worldwide. It is important to emphasize specially that GEW understands the specifics of the region of Eastern Europe and countries of post-Soviet space and has been contributing to the empowerment of women and girls for many years. GFW recognized the inportance of grasssroots level participation in the process of democracy building and has been supporting rural women's groups to the present.

When we decided to found the Bulgarian Fund for Women back in the year 2004, we needed an organization that would serve as a bright example to us with its work and impact.Global Fund for Women was exactly what we needed-it changes minds in order to change lives, it empowers women and girls, it spreads feminism worldwidely. This is exactly what we decided to do and are still trying to accomplish in our small and faraway country.
In 2005 we recived our first support from the Global Fund for Women-not only financial though. We were encouraged and inspired and now, in year 2011, we are still inspired by the GFW. We stand right behind you as you, girls, always stood there for us. Because this is what real sisters do.

As an activist working in NGO in Central and Eastern Europe and Cetral Asia I must say that the support of Global Fund contributed to the strengthening of the feminist movement in our region. There are very few and less Foundations who support organizations in the CEE and CA countries.

I joined the big GFW family in 2002 and I think it was a crucial moment in my life. From the very beginning I was amazed by the warmth and sisterhood spirit inside the organization. Tight communication slowly turned my interest to women's rights to the professional passion and commitment, which I fully applied in my home country Azerbaijan. What I like most of all in this organization is the fact that GFW is not only donor, but a real supporter to the numerous women's organizations around the world. The forms of support can vary from a campaign initiative up to the specific capacity-building initiative. For these 9 years I cannot help admiring the variety of approaches and flexibility of GFW, which I think, is breaking stereotype of "donor's own priorities", as GFW not only "listens", but also "hears" the concerns and, therefore, can meet the women's needs on a very efficient manner.

As a graphic design professional serving non-profits and small community organizations, it is a pleasure to work with such an exceptional organization. GFW gives me the opportunity to learn about the atrocities and the positive movements in international women's rights. They are a truly inspiration group, and I feel fortunate to be part of the extended family.

As an active volunteer with Kayan-Feminist Organization, I would like to thank the Global Fund for Women for supporting all of Kayan's activities in advancing the role of Palestinian Women in Israel. It has been a pleasure working with the GFW. Many of our projects have been made possible through GFW funding, including our most recent two-day seminar for Palestinian feminist leaders of grassroots community initiatives. Thank you GFW for being our partner!

As the former President and CEO of the Global Fund for Women, I cannot claim objectivity. I can say with confidence that the women and men who work as staff at GFW bring all their talents, intelligence, and commitment to the job. The diverse global board brings perspective from the very communities that we seek to serve. And, finally the donor community of over 23,000 individual donors - from the young girls who send GFW their birthday and bar mitzvah cheques to the senior citizens who support us on a monthly basis, create a nurturing space for innovation and change. The women leaders that the GFW makes investments in around the globe grow to become changemakers in their communities - women like Sakena Yacoobi of Afghanistan or Mu Sochua in Cambodia or Zainah Anwar in Malaysia or Patricia Guerrero in Columbia. There are no other organizations in the US that allow you such a direct connection to grassroots women working to advance the rights of women and girls in 170 countries. Over 78% of the resources go to advance the program work of the Global Fund for Women including over $8.5 million made in direct grants to local women's groups.

What sets GFW apart from other groups: they respect their prospective grantees and it pays off: they accept applications in any language; their application forms are straight-forward, uncomplicated; their advisors are leaders from the country involved, not from the USA; and most important, they will take a risk on fledgling/ experimental groups, instead of insisting on well-established NGO's, which too often means ossified, backward-looking groups. That's why George Soros has looked to GFW for key criteria for making grants with the most leverage. I only wish I had more $ to give to the Global Fund. As it is, I spread the word about GFW every chance I get, and friends and colleagues contribute to GFW in their wills.

GFW has provided Nazra with the start point for its work and continued supporting Nazra not only by funding but with networking, resources and mentoring . In a critical time in Egypt which is witnessing a major transition into democracy. The work of Nazra is very important at that time to guarantee mainstreaming gender in policies and programmes in new Egypt"

My fundraising agency has served the Global Fund for Women for at least a decade, and I was personally involved in the work during the first several years. For an organization of such modest size, the Fund's reach is truly global. As the website says, "Since 1987 we have awarded over $71 million to 3,800 women's organizations in 167 countries." That's an astonishing record, and I've learned about a number of the group's well-chosen projects through contacts I've made in developing countries during extensive travels around the world for most of the past decade.
