Mission: Our mission is to develop experiential learning programs which encourage self-awareness and critical thinking, nurture healthy relationships and community, and foster personal and academic excellence. Our vision is to cultivate diverse communities of healthy, creative, and engaged learners and leaders, working toward a socially just and ecologically balanced world. Global Community Institute established Explorations Academy in 1995 to give diverse young people a highly engaging, real-world oriented education. We serve motivated students whose needs have not been met in traditional schools. Explorations emphasizes critical thinking skills and community stewardship to help empower young people to be leaders for positive change.
Programs: The operation of explorations academy integrates academic excellence with experiential learning. Explorations academy (ea) is an experientially-based secondary school established in 1995. Ea serves capable young people in grades 8-12 seeking an education for the 21st century that meaningfully addresses real-world issues. Explorations academy is unique with a focus on context: the context of the school environment, the context of our local area and region, and the context of global systems are each directly incorporated into the curriculum. Ea is educating young people for our contemporary changing world. Explorations is fully accredited by the northwest accreditation commission and is a candidate member of the pacific northwest association of independent schools.
My son attended Explorations Academy for four years and recently graduated. He is a very bright and unusually creative young person who just didn't fit into the institutional school mold. At Explorations, he was able to find his own path and express himself in his own ways -- while being exposed to very bright and creative teachers and a highly relevant academic curriculum. Further, Explorations provided him the opportunity to travel to India, Peru, and Kenya during his high school years, which gave him a window on global citizenship most young people only dream of. He is now in his second year at university and our family is very grateful for the experience he had at Explorations Academy.
