I first came across Glad Dogs when I was searching for a place to donate old stuffed animals, and quickly became involved as a volunteer -- it has been so wonderful contributing to this organization! It has such a positive impact on both those looking to repurpose their stuffed animals and to dogs, in shelters or otherwise, that need toys to play with!
On MlK day in January 2020, I was watching Good Day Philadelphia .They were doing a story on this day of giving back with various charities and activities. Glad Dog Nation was a participant at a location where all different charities were represented. I was immediately interested when the reporter interviewed Glad Dogs. I love dogs and sewing, and since I retired I have focused on helping various charities. I went online and signed up to volunteer to help sew the “stuffies” as I call them. I enjoy it immensely and feel I am giving back to our four legged friends! The stuffies are sent to me and I return them when completed. It has been a great experience to deal with Marianne with this great charity!
Our non-profit dog rescue received a donation of up cycled stuff animals that were transformed into lovable squeaker toys by Zach's Planet in conjunction with Glad Dogs Nation earlier this year. Our dogs have definitely enjoyed the the squeaky toys and we are so thankful for the donation. We love the mission behind Glad Dogs Nation and they definitely go above and beyond to help rescues with donations. They are easy to work with and very prompt in responding to emails. We appreciate all the hard work that they do to help us, help dogs in need.
Initially I was a customer of Glad Dogs; Their fun, upcycled pet toys that give back are the BEST! I love that I can order by toy size, amount of stuffing, with squeakers or squeakless, and by toy theme! My 3 dogs go crazy for these toys.
Later I was inspired by the Glad Dogs Foundation's mission and became a volunteer. I assisted with large-scale volunteer events where we created hundreds of up cycled pet toys with community members that were donated to homeless animals in municipal shelters and grass-roots rescue organizations across the country. The group's organization, frugality and inventiveness at such huge events was impressive!
Next I participated in smaller-scale pet-toy sewing events for both corporate and civic groups where I worked with Glad Dogs Foundation founder Marianne to speak to participants about the issue of pet overpopulation, spay/neuter initiatives, and how proceeds from the sale of the toys we were creating helped to fund such initiates.
After time spent volunteering I became a Glad Dogs Foundation Board Member! In addition to volunteering at sewing events I assisted with toy drives, toy sorting and preparation, packaging and delivering pet supplies (toys, leashes, harnesses, treats, medical and sanitizing supplies, and pet food) to shelters and rescues in need, and educational outreach programs. One of my favorite things about Glad Dogs Foundation is that it serves as a rewarding and unique way for children and teens to participate in creating a difference in the lives of homeless animals. I hear from so many parents and scout leaders about how desperately their children wish to volunteer with homeless animals, but the reality is that shelters and rescues -for safety and insurance reasons -do not allow volunteers under 18-years of age. Glad Dogs Foundation provides that engaging opportunity for children and teens to volunteer and make a difference in the lives of shelter animals.
In addition to my volunteering with the Glad Dogs Foundation I volunteer as a Rescue Transport Driver (something Glad Dogs Foundation founder Marianne introduced me to!). In this role I come in contact with dozens of grass-roots animal rescue groups from Kentucky and West Virginia to Massachusetts. I have witnessed how the Glad Dogs Foundation has continued year after year to assist and support these groups with their mission of making a difference in the lives of homeless and vulnerable animals.
This org has donated food to my foster and toys. The pups love their toys and the food donations really help a 10 dog home!!
Glad Dogs Nation is one of my favorite organizations! They go above and beyond to help rescues that are coping with the day to day struggle of helping so very many uwanted pets and what better way than to provide the opportunity to spay and neuter. Glad Dog Nation has generously helped to provide food, toys, crates etc., to many rescues and I myself have benefited from their generosity. The Glad Dogs Nation toys have also provided comfort to many as we enjoy sharing their awesome gift baskets to those who need a little lift. The toys bring a smile to many faces both human and canine. I have the privilege of calling Marianne my friend and look forward to many more years of Glad Dogs Nation toys!!!
I’ve had the pleasure to volunteer with Glad Dogs Nation a few times and it’s always guaranteed fun!
From start-to-finish the crew is totally organized making set up a breeze! At the events I’ve attended, we typically work with other volunteers, so having a system in place is key.
Plus, putting the toys together knowing they are going to such a great cause is so rewarding!
If you’re looking to support an organization worthy of your time and in support of animals - Glad Dogs is for you!
I first learned about Glad Dogs when I visited their booth at a local pet fair in the summer of 2019. When I learned about their programs I just knew I had to help.
When I picked up my first batch of toys to sew I had an opportunity to speak at length with its founder, Marianne Ahern. I was even more impressed when I learned details about the source of the Glad Dogs Foundation. Over the years, she and her husband had fostered over 100 dogs waiting for forever homes. She realized that more had to be done upstream to reduce the homeless pet population and Glad Dogs was born.
As a Glad Dogs volunteer, I have had the opportunity to “peak behind the curtain” so to speak. What I see is a well run operation with a dedicated leader at the helm.
Glad Dogs has even inspired me to develop a college level course examining the history and impact of pets on our lives. I am happy to give them my highest recommendation.
Amazing organization to deal with. Their program is second to none for donations, product quality and customer service!
What an incredible resource to have. Our rescue is very lucky to have them working to help the animals that come through our doors. Back the Blue Pet Rescue appreciates all that you do.
Glad dogs are amazing! The donated hundreds of toys to the biggest shelter in NJ AHS Newark Branch! Besides toys that brought sweaters, costumes and blowup collars for medical usage . Thank you again for helping our amazing dogs!
Glad Dogs Foundation Inc. has been such a huge help to our community outreach and spay/neuter efforts throughout the years. They have helped encourage our spay/neuter voucher recipients to use their vouchers through a toy donation program and partnered with us during our community outreach events by sending supplies to encourage attendance at the events. They've always been there to lend a helping hand to make a difference for pet guardians and their pets and we're honored to have their support!
2017 was a record-setting year for the Angel’s Hope Spay/Neuter Program and our partnership with Glad Dogs Nation/Foundation played a huge role in helping to stop the cycle of pet homelessness through spaying and neutering.
Our program is based in the poorest county in West Virginia and many times people have to choose between feeding their families and/or pets or taking their pets to the vet. In most cases, the expenses associated with spaying/neutering are not something families can manage on their limited income.
Through our partnership with Glad Dogs Nation/Foundation, a drawing for a Walmart gift card was held each month for the families that used their voucher within an established timeframe. The incentive encouraged pet guardians to not only use their voucher, but to use it more quickly so that we could get more vouchers out in a shorter amount of time. We’ve seen a 69% increase in the number of vouchers used over 2016 and the vouchers are used more quickly.
Our partnership with Glad Dogs Nation/Foundation has been helpful in encouraging more pet guardians to alter their pets and to stop the cycle of litters of puppies/kittens that they may not be able to care for.
Thanks, April. It has been a pleasure working with your group to support your spay/neuter program. It is our core mission to increase the number of spayed and neutered dogs. Thanks for all YOU do.
What a great organization! We run a non-profit rescue that relies on Glad Dogs Foundation to provide us with toys when we cannot purchase or do not have enough donations. They are great to work with! We appreciate all they do for us and the pups we foster.
As a rescue we have enjoyed their toys for our dogs and we have steered our adopters to this organization to buy their dog toys - everyone benefits, and our adopters love their toys and it all supports a good cause - helping more dogs and cats and we love that they encourage young people and groups to help shelter animals and being part of this community service. Top notch organization where very penny goes to the good of the animals, wonderful people to work with as well
Oh my dog! Glad Dogs Foundation is simply amazing! They took a throwaway item and turned it into a valuable resource to provide spay and neuter! It's wonderful and amazing and soooo thoughtful!!! This is a Great Non Profit for sure!!! xoxo
Glad Dogs Nation helped my little rescue with some toys and the dogs LOVE them! They have a brilliant way of promoting spay/neuter with these wonderful repurposed toys
I recently became the shelter manager at Dunn Animal Control. I am not sure how I got lucky enough to get in touch with Glad Dogs Nation but I am so glad I did. The toys they have sent have made the dogs stay at the shelter much better. The pallet, yes I said pallet of puppy food was such a blessing as well. Thank you do all you do!!!!
I have been incredibly thankful for all of the support and guidance that Glad Dogs Foundation has given to my newly formed nonprofit, Salem's Light. Our organization focuses on community outreach initiatives to increase spay/neuter in under-served areas in the metro Richmond (VA) area and Glad Dogs Foundation has helped us in multiple ways in such a short time - from donations of toys and food to distribute to dogs in need to helping to develop an easy, yet effective strategy to increase redemption rates of our free spay/neuter coupons. Marianne, especially, has been an incredibly welcome partner, advocate, and overall source of advice and guidance based on countless years of experience!
I head up a breed specific dog rescue. We were contacted by Glad Dogs about a donation of large shipment of food made for our breed. We were so surprised by the large amount of food donated to us as well as their friendly and cooperative manner. Marianne couldn't have been nicer and the food donation was very much appreciated. And by the way it was an expensive food that was well within the safety dates.
We were able to send the food to one of our sister groups who greatly appreciated it.
Glad Dogs does a great job supporting the many rescue groups who make up our community. Thank you, Marianne!
I run a nonprofit organization www.doingrightbyrescues.org who benefits greatly from the donated toys we receive from Glad Dogs. The toys serve as great stress relievers and calming agents. Many times we work with clients who have adopted rescued dogs with many medical issues which often times means major expenses for their family budget. They truly appreciate the savings resulting from the toys we can provide them with since we began our partnership with Glad Dogs. Every toy we have received has been in such great condition...they appear as brand new! And what a wonderful way for toys to wind up.....snuggled next to a loving family dog! Our files are filled with such wonderful pictures. Thank you Glad Dogs for spreading smiles!
I run a non profit (www.doingrightbyrescues.org in New Jersey). We provide free tutoring and educational outreach to those who have adopted (or are fostering) dogs from animal shelters or rescue organizations. For over two years now we have been receiving toys from Glad Dogs Foundation to support our efforts to tutor and transition rescued dogs from homeless to forever homed. Play is such an important component in a dog's life and the toys from Glad Dogs play a key role in our work with rescued dogs. Glad Dogs Foundation have addressed a real need in the world of dog rescue and we are very grateful for their support and efforts on behalf of our canine clients!
I found Glad Dogs Foundation through a volunteer matching site this past summer and I couldn't have picked a better nonprofit to help out. After talking with Marianne over the phone, I was excited to get started. I love their mission of upcycling toys and giving proceeds to dogs in need. With my busy schedule, I was thrilled to finally find a flexible volunteer position that is fun and creative.
I can't begin to express how much I love working with the Glad Dogs Nation foundation. Last September, I adopted my first rescue pet- dog- and the experience has been amazing! I love my rescue pup, and I wanted to help other dogs in need. I have a busy schedule, so I needed to find something that would be flexible with my schedule. I reached out to Glad Dogs Nation on volunteer match.com earlier this year. I spoke to Marianne and immediately new I had found the volunteer job for me. I love searching the web to find sources to help our mission and encourage new members to join. The volunteer team is always supportive of our own goals in life, but we do know we all love the animals we are saving. And finally, I love the concept. We are up cycling toys- that might have just been thrown away in landfill. Instead, we clean them up, make them pet friendly, and raise costs for animals in need. Win! Win! Win! ( Picture is my own rescue pup, Dublin!
I started volunteering for them recently and just love what they are doing. Such a wonderful organization. Im very excited to help in thier cause
This group has been so extremely helpful to are Rescue over the past year they work so hard to help rescue organizations get supplies they need to help differ from the cost and allow us to save more dogs!!
I have been volunteering for Gladdogsnation for several years. It is so rewarding to see my/our efforts to go good use. We give people an outlet to get rid of stuffed animals and at the same time give pets and shelter animals a little CHEAP enjoyment. And 100% of our profits to go help those little known rescues. So rewarding!!!!!
I love this organization! What a great idea to repurpose unwanted toys and also provide support to rescues and shelters!
I've been buying toys and treats from Glad Dogs Nation for years. And for almost as long I've been helping close up the "spay and neuter" scars on the stuffies GDN sells. All around, this is a great organization. Helping pet owners find great toys, helping toys stay out of landfills (for a while any way!), helping dogs who like to squeak and destroy, and helping dogs and other animals in need through the Foundation makes helping out here make me feel good in my very soul.
I first heard of Glad Dogs Nation when donating to New Spirit for Aussies Rescue. Old stuffed animals turned into dog toys?! Sign me up! Our newest rescue loved nothing better than a good shredding of the stuffed animals I had on hand. I needed more! Glad Dogs toys fit the bill. Bear loves them! And I love that the monies go to help other shelter and rescue dogs. Another plus was that I now have the opportunity to help Glad Dogs Nation prepare the stuffies for sale, through the Glad Dogs Foundation. I now get to use my sewing skills to sew "spay/neuter" scars shut on the stuffies. Keeps me busy and off the streets.
we are a animal rescue and glad dogs foundation helped so many of our rescue dogs and cats.
Glad Dog has the best toys for dogs and they last forever. I bought one 2 years ago and it looks like almost new. It looks just like my dog and when I say to him "Find Twin" he runs and get his Glad Dog. Thank you for all you do and for your unselfish support of rescues.
I came across Glad Dogs through a breed rescue group. I've been hooked ever since! From being able to help other dogs (and cats, horses, etc) by purchasing toys and treats to helping prepare the stuffed animals for the dogs to telling others about the organization, I feel like I am making a difference. Marianne has been a pleasure to work with. And my dogs love the stuffies and chews. My Bear went and helped himself to a toy before I could pick one out for him. He knew they were for him. :-)
Glad Dogs Nation has filled a unique niche for the dog rescue world (and the world in general) in so many ways. Their innovative idea to repurpose old toys by turning them into safe and adorable toys for dogs was absolutely phenomenal. The dogs love the toys, they are safe, reasonably priced...and the old toys stay out of the landfill, which helps the environment! The funds raised are used to help rescue efforts, and our shelter has received a grant from the Foundation to help defray the cost of spay/neuter for outdoor cats. I cannot say enough about the innovation and integrity of this organization. They are great and we love partnering with them. Thank you Marianne and all at GDN!
These folks approached us and have been consistently supportive and terrific with both goods and money. We're so delighted by their involvement with New Spirit 4 Aussie Rescue and in awe of their very businesslike and professional way of doing things!
I am lucky enough to know this nonprofit from three different aspects. I have been solidly impressed by them from all these perspectives.
I know Marianne, their founder and fearless leader, as a fellow volunteer in a breed-specific rescue. She is always cheerful, resourceful, and willing to do whatever she can to help in all aspects of being an active member of a rescue group.
I am (OK...my two dogs are) faithful customers of Glad Dogs. Our Rottweiler loves nothing more than to play with a brand new stuffed animal. Most of the time, he destuffs and destroys his stuffed toys in a few hours....but he LOVES his toys from Glad Dogs (size XL of course), and will carry them around for DAYS before striking that fatal blow and spreading stuffing all over our house.
The third way I have interacted with this rescue was when Glad Dogs Nation came to my synagogue in VA to participate in a region-wide Good Deeds Day where our religious community dedicates the day to doing and learning about good deeds and ways to make the world a better place. Marianne drove down with a van full of animals needing to be finished, and she patiently helped dozens of kids as they inserted squeakers and sewed up toys for pups to enjoy.
Glad Dogs Nation is a great organization, and one of the rare ones where I can feel confident not only about their goals, but also about their leadership, the morals they function under, and the product they sell. HIGHLY RECOMMEND any involvement with them!
I have been volunteering with Glad Dog Nation for about 4 years. I am retired and was looking for volunteer work that did not take up to much of my time as I have a therapy dog that does visits to nursing homes. I saw a write up in the local paper and contacted Marianne and I was hooked. She supplies the toys , squeaker, crinkle paper and I help the cause my supplying my own appliques, pom-poms and sewing thread and glue. I also help out at events. This gives me an opportunity to volunteer at my pace. The cause is so worth while. There are so many small rescue organizations that can use any little help. Every dog needs a toy.
Thanks for ALL you do, Elaine!
Glad Dogs Foundation is an amazing organization that helps so many unwanted dogs. They also help shelters and rescues help dogs too! GDN has helped the Australian Cattle Dog Rescue in many ways including donating toys to our dogs and toys to raffle at our auctions. GDN even held a fundraiser for our rescue! Our cattle dogs LOVE playing with Glad Dogs and find much comfort in them, especially our sick ones. Through spay/neuter assistance and education provided to our children, GDN helps facilitate a more responsible community with regard to helping homeless dogs. GDN is making a remarkable difference in so many lives, both canine and human! Thank you GDN!
I became familiar with this organization about 3 years ago. I noticed them at Puptoberfest in NJ. I had just gotten a puppy and was in need of some toys so it caught my eye. When I stopped to look at the great toys I realized this was not just great toys but it was for a purpose. I thought to myself this doesn't get any better. Then I realized it does... I asked how I could help this organization and found out that I can help by sewing up the toys in my leisure. This is not only an organization for the animals but it is somewhere where I can give back as well. In my eyes this organization not only makes dogs and cats happy in many ways but it make humans feel better in many ways. EVERYONE WINS AND IT DOESN'T GET ANY BETTER THAN THAT!!!! I would encourage everyone to support Maryann and the Glad dogs Foundation!
Thanks, Jacquie! Your support is very appreciated!
I love volunteering for Glad Dogs Nation. It’s really hard being active duty in the Navy and finding an organization that can work with your schedule. Glad Dogs Nation is perfect. You can do It in your free time and help animals. I have even recommended them to my junior sailors. Marianne is super sweet and answers any questions in a timely manner. If you have a desire to volunteer but don’t really have the time to commit to a set schedule, this is perfect.
Thanks so much, Erica. We are thrilled to have you as a volunteer!
I've been volunteering with Glad Dogs Nation for about six months now. I love being able to help sew the stuffed animals because I know it will help the dogs in the shelters. That is a great feeling!
Marianne is a very pleasant, courteous and helpful person to work with. I love it when she sends me more toys to sew and I dig right in, so I can get them done and sent back for another big box!
Marianne, thank you for all the hard work of prepping the stuffed animals so I can do my part in helping too!
Sue from MA
Thanks, Sue! This means so much to us!
I have been volunteering with Glad Dogs Foundation by sewing dog toys which get sold on the internet. Proceeds from selling these toys go to fund spay and neutering of rescue dogs. Also I helped with a sewing event where kids sewed toys which were then donated to shelters and rescues so the dogs awaiting adoption would have toys to play with. it's been a lot of fun and I enjoy knowing that my volunteering is helping homeless animals.
Your support is very appreciated!
I was looking to complete some community service hours and stumbled upon Glad Dogs Nation via an internet search. The post mentioned that it was looking for people to upcycle child toys to dog toys. I mentioned that I was definitely willing to help out and that although I don't have a dog, I do have a cat, and love pets in general. Marianne wrote back saying that she was looking for a "cat person" to help with their catnip stuffed upcycled toys. I was even more excited to help after hearing/reading that.
Marianne sent a box of cat toys stuffed with cat nip and the items necessary for sewing them up. I sat on my couch for a whole weekend, binge watched a lot of Netflix, and got to work. Keeping my cat away from the toys was the only difficulty in helping out.
I've also been sent dog toys with squeekers to sew up and eventually started to help with attaching eye patches. These fabric eyes are to replace potentially harmful plastic ones that pets could easily tear off and ingest.
I've done multiple big boxes of cat and dog toys, and honestly it is fun. It's an amazing non-profit to volunteer for and to get your pet some toys from.
I've completed the hours needed for my community service, but have continued helping out. Whenever Marianne sends an email I am happy to do whatever she needs. It's been great being able to help a non-profit in PA all the way from UT.
Thanks, Cassidy! Your help has made it possible for us to do what we do!
This is a wonderful non profit that is committed to bringing happiness to all pets!
Their handcrafted pet toys are durable, adorable and affordable...
A wonderful organization...
Jacks Galore , a dog rescue that has not only had the privelege to have our supporters buy their great toys and reap the benefit of their generosity, but we had a great time encouraging young people to collect toys to send to Glad Dogs nation for their projects. We all had fun, the kids learned a valuable lesson in community service and we know we helped animals get spayed and neutered. A great charity with a very worthy mission while many benefit from their time and efforts - AND our rescue dogs LOVE the toys!!!
