I met Kerry the founder of GADG after I quit my job and decided since I have a lot of free time to help this non-profit. I had never volunteered whilst travelling esepcially when I travel quite a bit. So on my next trip to India my homeland, I volunteered at a local children's school in a very poor district. The school is primarily an after school program teaching english. This was such a heart warming and fulfilling experience and made my trip so much more meaningful. GADG does a fantastic job in connecting travelers to local organizations in a lot developing countries allowing folks like me and many others to make a difference. Thank you Kerry and everyone who works so hard to make this a reality!
As an avid traveler, I look for opportunities to interact with locals and encourage cultural exchanges. As a volunteer and advisor to non-profits at home, I look for organizations that may benefit from my experience. GADG afforded me great opportunities to do both with vetted charities in SE Asia. Near Chiang Mai in northern Thailand, I spent time at Warm Hearts Worldwide helping with its bio-char sustainable agriculture project, assisting other volunteers in marketing efforts and discussing fundraising strategies with the director. In Siem Reap, Cambodia, I volunteered at Elma School, teaching English classes to elementary school-aged students and spending time with the principal, a remarkable young man. I will definitely turn to GADG to find volunteer opportunities for my future travels.
