Mission: Girls Rock Asheville is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization established for the empowerment of people who self-identify as girls, women, trans, and/or gender nonconforming through music education, creative exploration, positive mentorship, and peer collaboration. We aim to center social activism education and youth-led DIY programming in our quest to uplift and affirm musical self-expression from people with marginalized identities in order to disrupt systems of oppression.
Results: Girls Rock Avl is celebrating *ten years* of music education and empowerment for girls and LGBTQ+ youth in WNC! Girls Rock Avl's summer camp has served hundreds of young rockers who leave camp with new music skills, positive identity development, and increased self-confidence. Girls Rock Avl is committed to providing accessible, equitable music programs. Our day camp fee is one of the lowest in Asheville, and no child is turned away for lack of funds. On average, over 50% of camper families rely on full or partial scholarships to attend camp. Girls Rock Avl offers an afterschool program in collaboration with Asheville City Schools, allowing us to engage with kids throughout the school year. Girls Rock Avl has partnered with local and touring artists to host family-friendly events, concerts, and fundraisers in the community.
