For the past two years, I have coached for Girls on the Run Southcentral Alaska. This incredible program is something I desperately wished I had experienced during my own elementary years. Witnessing the profound, life-changing impact it has on 3rd to 5th grade girls is nothing short of awe-inspiring. It’s not just a program; it’s a vibrant journey that sparks joy, nurtures confidence, and fosters health in ways that are utterly unique. Beyond movement, it instills priceless life skills that empower these young girls to rise and thrive, shaping them into the strong, radiant leaders of tomorrow. Girls on the Run is SO much fun!!
I was lucky enough to be able to volunteer as a running buddy for a Girls on the Run 5K in Kincaid Park. It was special to be able to see coaches, volunteers, parents and teammates all rally together to make an event both special and important. The impact was felt.
As a Board member, I've witnessed firsthand the transformative impact of Girls on the Run in Alaska. This program goes beyond just physical activity – it's a powerful catalyst for personal growth and empowerment in young girls across our region.
Our dedicated coaches and volunteers create a supportive environment where girls learn to embrace their unique strengths, build self-confidence, and develop essential life skills. The curriculum ingeniously blends running with lessons on body positivity, healthy relationships, and community service.
The culminating 5K events are always a highlight, showcasing the incredible progress each girl has made, both physically and emotionally. It's truly inspiring to see the sense of accomplishment on their faces as they cross the finish line.
Girls on the Run Southcentral Alaska is more than just an after-school program; it's a movement that's shaping the next generation of strong, confident women in our community. The positive ripple effects of this work will be felt for years to come.
I have volunteered for this organization several times and I love the mission and that it provides a structured way for young girls to grow and develop their social, emotional, and physical skills and build confidence. It's always heartwarming to see them accomplish their goals they have worked hard for the entire semester.
