Mission: Girls on the run inspires girls to be joyful, healthy and confident using a fun, experience-based curriculum which creatively integrates running. We envision a world where every girl knows and activates her limitless potential and is free to boldly pursue her dreams.
Programs: Girls on the run of denver served more than 4,000 girls in 2014. Over 2,000 of participants came from low-income families and received tuition remission. Girls on the run of denver provided $291,000 in tuition remission to these girls in need. Girls on the run is a physical activity-based positive youth development program (pa-pyd) designed to develop and enhance girls social, psychological, and physical competencies to successfully navigate life experiences. Girls learn to stretch themselves physically, mentally, emotionally and socially while training for a 5k event.
I've been a volunteer with Girls on the Run for two seasons now and they are an effective, excellent program bringing volunteers together with young girls to teach about running, leadership, friendship, and more. The girls in my group form lasting bonds and look forward to the 5K run all season. Many girls come back year after year and show tons of growth in running ability as well as understanding the lessons. This program is a great idea and the Rockies program does a huge amount of work!
