I've been volunteering with GOTR MOCO since fall 2010. Started out as a buddy runner that fall and then coaching both elementary and middle school teams ever since. Because I love the organization so much, I've also volunteered to serve as a regional coordinator for 2 seasons.
GOTR is an amazing program that profoundly impacts young girls, building self confidence and self esteem, and encouraging them along to accomplishing a 5K run!
I can only say great things about the organization and its staff!!! Wonderful!!
Life changing. It's all i can say about GOTR of Montgomery County. I started volunteering in 2010 and volunteered as a coach, fundraising and the 5K race. The lessons I taught have carried my children through elementary, middle and into high school--they've even taught me and all I could think during the lessons were "I wish I had known this when I was growing up--I would have made such better choices". GOTR MOCO is a well run organization with dedicated team and board which makes volunteering even more rewarding.
I've been volunteering with Girls on the Run of Montgomery County for 5 years and am truly inspired by its important work to educate young girls about self-esteem and living a healthy lifestyle. Every spring and fall, I volunteer at the GOTR 5K road race, where more than 2,500 young girls and their families participate in a celebration of their hard work and commitment to living a healthy life. I've seen first-hand the difference the organization makes in the lives of these young girls, and I'm honored to be part of it! Keep up the great work, and thanks for the opportunity to serve!
I recently became a volunteer for Girls on the Run and I am very happy that I did it. One of the best moments is seeing the girls at their 5K race and their sense of accomplishment. This past May, I stood at the finish line congratulating the girls and their families on successfully completing the race. It is an honor to be a part of such an amazing program that influences so many young girls lives. I am excited to see what the future brings and hopefully become more involved with GOTR, possibly as a coach!
I participated as a coach and parent of a participant with GOTR. I am also a clinical psychologist. My daughter loved the program and I found the curriculum to be exactly what girls this age need. It teachers empowerment in a way that is respectful to all, builds bonds and offers a venue for young girls to begin exploring what it means to be a female in today's society. I love to run, but was pleasantly surprised to find that running was only the mechanism used to help deliver much more lasting and powerful messages that all children need.
Everyone who knows about Girls on the Run of Montgomery County, MD, knows that GOTR is an amazing program. Its goal of inspiring girls to feel strong and empowered, while teaching them to be self-advocates and sticking up against bullying, is a noble one. But almost as important as its mission is the opportunity it provides elementary age girls to create connections with other inspiring and "safe" women - teachers and parents who serves as the coaches.
I feel good knowing that if my daughter and I are going through a rough patch at home that she has other warm, thoughtful, smart women in her life to turn to for guidance and love. It's just one of the many "perks" of being a GOTR MOCO family.
I knew as a coach that we had scored a home run when the girls themselves told me that gotr gave them the chance to talk about important things and to learn to be healthy
This organization does more for girls in Montgomery County, Md. than any other organization. The organization works hard to see that each of its volunteers is trained properly so that every girl gets the same great experience. Girls who go through the program are so much more confident and strong by the end of the season. Each member of the organization's staff is so organized and dedicated to the organization's mission. It is a great organization to be a part of.
I saw the positive effects of the GOTR program on a friend's daughter, became a buddy runner, and now coach a team. GOTR is fun for the girls, teaches them valuable life skills, and emphasizes health and fitness. It is also very well-organized, so makes it a pleasure for girls, parents and coaches alike to participate. I've been very happy to be a part of it.
GOTR of Montgomery County is well above other non-profits for which I've volunteered. They are well run, so organized, quick to respond to concerns, and so encouraging to their volunteers. The
Girls they reach are moved and changed by their wonderful program.
Girls on the Run of Montgomery County is a phenomenal organization that very much adheres to their mission. The staff's commitment to the core values of GOTR is evident season after season. Girls on the Run offers girls a positive outlet to express themselves while learning how to lead a healthy and balanced lifestyle. The emphasis on friendship, self-esteem, and self accomplishment is what makes participating in GOTR so unique. I would recommend this program to any girl grade 3rd-8th as well as any adult who is looking to volunteer their time to valuable organization.
