I have volunteered with Girls on the Run of Cincinnati for two years. Here's why I love it: This is a program that doesn't just tell girls what NOT to do (no drugs, no boys, etc). It gives them healthy behaviors to practice IN PLACE OF those more negative actions. These healthy behaviors are not just limited to running - we also practice being assertive, confident, and making other healthy choices in our lives.
On a more personal level, I have also found this organization to be very focused on the girls, with absolutely none of the coach-primadonna issues that sometimes crop up in athletic or charitable organizations. From the top down, GOTR seems to be 100% focused on the girls, and it shows.
