The Girls' Middle School (GMS) educates girls to take their place in the 21st century world. I was a board member during its early years, and my daughter was in the 3rd graduating class. One of the things I appreciated most about the GMS mission was and is its dedication to finding and educating academically-capable low-income girls, through an ambitious scholarship program. GMS recognized early on that it isn't sufficient to enroll girls of differing backgrounds; all students need support to understand each others' differences and to learn to live and learn together. The Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) program, integral to the curriculum, helps accomplish that goal.
My daughter is now a college graduate. I would say that the three years she spent at GMS were extremely powerful, equipping her with the intellectual and character gifts to be excel in many different settings. She is now supporting the scholarship program from her own resources.
