Causes: Children & Youth, Girls Clubs
Mission: Our mission is to inspire girls to be strong, smart and bold through innovative programs, activities and advocacy, and to provide before and after school childcare services supporting youth and their families through alameda island kids.
Programs: Girls inc. Of the island city (giic) is part of a national research, direct advocacy, and education organization. Our programs help girls overcome economic, social and gender barriers to growing up healthy, educated and independent by providing life-changing programs and experiences. Girls are empowered to pursue careers and experiences in sports, science, math, technology, and the media. Moreover, they learn how to make informed choices about their activities and futures.
giic provides on-site and school-site after school programs for over 400 girls 6-18 using nationally research based and locally developed curriculum (elementary, pre-teen and teen tracks). During the summer, girls engage in 8 weeks of full day summer camp. In total, giic girls grow through 53,000 hours of educational and personal development programs. Giic is committed to providing resources to our families and community members. Multiple educational workshops ranging from "preventing teen dating violence" to "understanding eating disorders" are held. Additionally, families are provided with resources on social services, scholarships, internships, workshops, and educational opportunities.
giic also offers a service to the community called alameda island kids. Over 400 boys and girls participate in our on-site, before and after school licensed childcare program at six elementary schools in alameda.
