Programs: General programs - the mission of girls incorporated of metro denver (gimd) is to inspire all girls to be strong, smart and bold. As an affiliate of the national nonprofit organization, girls incorporated, gimd equips girls to navigate gender, economic and social barriers and grow into healthy, educated and independent adults. The organization serves girls ages 6 to 20 with after-school, summer, and outreach programs that: 1) expand on and support girls' school-based learning and engagement, 2) provide girls with the knowledge, skills and encouragement to develop and sustain a healthy lifestyle, and 3) build the knowledge, skills and behaviors that enable girls to function independently and live a productive and fulfilling life.
elementary/middle/high school programs - gimd offers programs to girlsin three program areas: elementary school, middle school, and high school. Elementary school programs serve girls in grades 1st through 5th and major themes include math and reading literacy, healthy eating, sports, and exposure to stem. Middle school programs serve girls in grades 6th through 8th and major themes include leadership, healthy minds and bodies, creative arts, and exposure to stem. High school programs serve girls in grades 9th through 12th and major themes include college preparation, career development, and pregnancy prevention.
strong, smart & bold beans - a social enterprise coffee business of gimd that employs girls in 10th through 12th grade. "bold beans" is a specialty coffee cart that is located in the lobby of the rudolfo gonzales library which is one block east of gimd's main facility on west colfax. During non-school hours, the cart is staffed by gimd's high school participants who earn an hourly wage and, in addition to hands-on experience, also receive training on business development, entrepreneurship, and financial literacy. In addition, the cart also provides gimd with opportunities for additional community engagement and brand awareness.
