Nonprofit Overview

Causes: Children & Youth, Girl Scouts of the U.S.A.

Mission: Girl Scouts of the Calumet Council serves 5200 girls and 1400 adult volunteers in 9 cities in Indiana and 4 cities in Illinois. In Northwest Indiana we serve the communities of Whiting, East Chicago, Hammond, Highland, Grittith, Munster, Dyer, Schererville, and St. John. In Illinois we serve the communities of Burnham, Calumet City, Lansing and Lynwood. Girl Scouts of the USA chartered our council in 1954. We have been serving these communities since that point in time. Our membership has changed drastically in those years. We have gone from very rural, farming communities to having very large urban areas currently.
