Programs: Girl Scouts is the premier leadership organization for girls. Participation in Girl Scouts can change the way girls see the world and their place in it. Girls learn the importance of personal responsibility, the value of goal-setting, the spirit of teamwork, and the thrill of accomplishment. In the Girl Scout Leadership Experience, activities are organized around the four pillars of leadership: Outdoors, STEM, Life Skills, and Entrepreneurship. Girl Scout experiences are girl-led, encourage learning by doing, and challenge by choice. Girl Scouts Heart of Central California (GSHCC) is one of 112 councils nationwide under the charter of Girl Scouts of the USA. The Movement was established in 1912 in Savannah, Georgia. GSHCC serves about 15,000 girls and 6,000 adult members in its 18-county region. The council is incorporated under state law, is administered by a volunteer board of directors, and employs a staff to provide services to volunteers and girls. GSHCC has two program centers, Sacramento and Modesto, each with its own Girl Scout Shop and STEM Center + MakerSpace. Additionally, GSHCC has a Mobile STEM Unit that travels to outlying areas as well as visiting schools and appearing in parades. GSHCC has two camps: Camp Fleming, in El Dorado County, and Camp Menzies in Calaveras County, as well as cabins in Woodland, Davis, and Tracy.
