My husband and I are so happy to be volunteers with the Gingerbread House. Lynn is very hands on with every dog she rescues. She is a great mentor. We have learned so much being involved with the rescue. We look forward to helping every way we can, one dog at a time.
Lynn from Gingerbread House Sanctuary and Rescue was very helpful and super knowledgeable. She keeps in touch throughout the entire process by answering questions and offering support. Lynn has a very deep and profound love for all of the rescues at Gingerbread House. It was an absolute pleasure dealing with her!
I was in the process of moving cross country and knew my toby would not be able make that trip. He was an older pekingese who had developed some minor health problems. I began researching ways to rehome him to make sure he ended up with a loving family that could provide the care and attention he needed. Lynn from the gingerbread house sanctuary and rescue reached out to me. She talked me through the process, provided me with information about her organization, and answered any questions I had. She understood that I loved my toby and only wanted the best for him. She worked with me to arrange a pick up, and she drove from New Jersey to Virginia to help provide a smooth transition. Lynn has kept me informed about toby by providing updates and sending me pictures. So even though toby has a new family im still able to be a part of his life in some way. I really appreciate Lynn and all that she and her organization does for these amazing pups.
Wonderful organization. I was trying to help a family rehome a dog that was but being well cared for and would need veterinary care. I reach out to this group and Lynn did but hesitate to help. I can’t thank you enough
Now this once neglected boy is in a happy loving forever home
I don't know where I'd be if it wasn't for this nonprofit organization after losing my yorkiepoo I didn't know what to do I was lost that is until I came across gingerbread rescue that was the best day ever... I went through the process and I must say I now have a great little guy that brings happiness & love into my life...
I adopted my second dog from the Gingerbread House! This organization does great work with and for the animals that they are able to rescue!! I personally have travelled hours on a Saturday to pick up pups who were given the best rest of their lives due to the loving and caring given here!! I wouldn’t regret that time for a moment just knowing they were happy and safe with the Gingerbread Family!!
The Gingerbread House Sanctuary &Rescue took a chance on me when other rescues would since I haven’t had a dog in 40 years! My husband didn’t want any dogs. After he passed, I contacted and was interviewed by Lynn Nixon. She came and saw what I had to offer. We were working on finding the right dog for me, since it had to be hypoallergenic. On the last weekend in March she called me to see if I would be willing to foster a 11 year old dog who was neglected with very serious ear infection and a hole on the side of her neck. And I said Yes— for 21 days I brought this little adorable girl to the veteran for rebandaging and to check the progress on her infection. Well the rest is history!
I adopted her on Mother’s Day weekend! Sophia is my little one! We go for walks 3-4 times a day! She is my buddy and companion! Other walkers have said they see the change in the dog— from scared, unfriendly dog to one that a social, friendly and very happy dog! I am healthier and have a more positive outlook on life! Thank you Gingerbread House for saving us and making it all possible!!
The Gingerbread House Pekingese Rescue is a wonderful place. The founder, Lynn Nixon, is a warm, kind hearted woman who sincerely cares about the dogs she brings into her rescue. She provides them with the best medical care, grooming, and love, to help them heal and start new lives.
She is diligent and thorough in her adoption applications and in finding the new perfect home and family match for her precious dogs.
She has given me the honor and pleasure of bringing sweet beautiful 13yr old, white as snow, Toby, into my life. Emma (my 2 yrs old toy Peke) and myself will be eternally grateful❣
I had the pleasure of adopting "Barney" in March 2021 and working with Lynn @ Gingerbread House. What a pleasure it was working with her and seeing all that she does for these little senior dogs. She met with us in person 2x before we adopted him officially. I was so impressed with the process to make sure he was the right fit for our family and we sure are in love with him! He fit right into our pack like he's always been here! I want to thank Lynn @ Gingerbread for all her hard work and encourage one and all to think of them when looking for your next companion.
I have known Lynn, the founder of Gingerbread House, for 30 plus years. I had started to see her work with dogs posted on social media and knew then she was doing great things. She posted her elders and would also post her rescues that would come to her for adoption.
I saw one and fell in love. This little totally blind 5 year old Maltese was a puppy mill rescue. She didn’t know how to be picked up or be held, she was under weight as well. But Lynn made her perfect! Worked with her to be held, put some weight on her, took her for spaying and a dental appointment. When I met Missy it was ❤️ For us both!
The Gingerbread House and Sanctuary is the place that pups can stay until adopted or even if they aren’t. Donations are the only way Lynn has to pay for all of the Vet care and other expenses that the dogs need. Some require extensive vet care when they come to Lynn so help is always needed and appreciated.
If God forbid, I would ever have to surrender Missy, The Gingerbread House and Sanctuary would be the place. I know she would care for and love Missy as much as I.
I do travel from time to time for work and Missy goes to visit Lynn and her other dog friends. I take comfort in knowing that while on her little vacation there she is well cared for, comfortable and is safe.
I am beyond thankful for Lynn at The Gingerbread House. Due to circumstances, I had to rehome by Peke and she reached out to me. It was a 3 hour drive for me, but I didn't think twice about it and knew this was the most caring person to care for my Pete. Lynn was loving, caring, kept me up to date on vet care etc. She also found the perfect person who adopted him. I am truly grateful for her and if anyone needs to rehome a little dog, I would absolutely % recommend The Gingerbread House!
I’m so grateful to Lynn at the Gingerbread Sanctuary who I met in April 2020
She interviewed me thoroughly to be sure I would be a good candidate for a pet with special needs. She was extremely knowledgeable, professional. When I got him, he was clean, groomed and very well taken care of during the time he was with the sanctuary. I’m so pleased and would highly recommend them to any one interested in rescuing a pet.
I would like to say that I have been to Lynn's Gingerbread House and have experienced first hand the great care that the dogs receive there. She takes old and unhealthy dogs and nurses them back to good health. She gives each dog lots of love and attention every day until someone wants to adopt one. I would recommend anyone looking to adopt a pet to go to the Gingerbread House.
Thank you
Glen Nixon
Gingerbread house has very pleasant people you can count on with your pets needs they will be on good hands Thank you so much for your help .
My father’s passing from cancer created a situation that left his 2 middle age small dogs in need of a new home. Lynn picked up both dogs and had them In a foster home awaiting vet visits. After their needs were handled they were placed as a pair with their new family. I received updates and pictures as things progressed at their new home. I am certain my father is smiling wide at how well his pups have ended up. This was a great experience and I couldn’t have hoped for a better outcome in our family’s time of sorrow. Thank you so much!
I first met Lynn when I was looking to adopt a specific dog that was listed as special needs. I was so impressed by Lynn’s attention to detail about not only the pup but me as a potential adopter. Lynn and I traded several emails before a having an in-depth phone conversation as the adoption screening progressed.
Lynn is highly attentive to detail and understands her pups background and needs before initiating a potential ‘match’. As a former companion obedience teacher, I have seen quite a few rescue matches that were difficult. I too heard the stories about groups that don’t necessarily provide an accurate description of the dog overall and specific needs which should be disclosed at the onset of any communication to avoid trauma on both ends of the leash.
Lynn is highly organized and knowledgeable about the pups entrusted to her care. She is so careful to be honest and candid about the pup and future care of the pup. Lynn’s goal is to establish the foundation for a long-term, successful dog/human relationship and she is relentless in finding that ‘match’.
The Gingerbread Animal Sanctuary sets the bar very high for all rescue groups. Lynn’s kindness, tenacity, humor and compassion to take the very best care of her pups is admirable and is why her success rate is so high.
On a scale of 0 – 5, I would rate the Gingerbread a 10!!
We were looking to adopt a rescue pup after the loss of our 9 year old miniature schnauzer Gus to cancer. We called Gingerbread House Sanctuary & Rescue and spoke with Lynn. Lynn is a very wonderful caring and helpful person. She was very instrumental in helping us find two fantastic pups - Dutchess and Little Dude for adoption and is always there for us if we have any questions or if we need any help. Thank you Lynn - Robert and Karen Hoffman
We had been looking for a while for a pup to adopt and even sent in a few applications. When we were contacted by Gingerbread House, it was quickly evident that they take rescue seriously and really want the best home for each dog. The interview process was thorough and fairly extensive ... all to insure the right match was being made. Lynn was readily available and spoke with us for quite some time, answering all questions we had, again insuring a good fit. She made the process painless, from application, to the meet and greet and then finally house visit and adoption. We would definitely recommend this rescue to anyone looking for a pup that needs a new home.
We recently rescued 2 dogs from the Gingerbread House Sanctuary & Rescue. We couldn't be happier with how organized, thorough, and professional Lynn is! The application process was relatively quick compared to other rescue organizations. Within 10 days of the initial application, we were bring home Kolby and Charlotte. Lynn is sweet and very knowledgeable about dogs and was able to help us with a few questions we had. We highly recommend this organization to anyone in the area who would like to rescue a furry friend!
