Mission: To ensure that all people impacted by cancer are empowered by knowledge, strengthened by action, and sustained by community. This mission is supportive of and in addition to medical care.
Programs: Frankly Speaking About Cancer (FSAC) is an educational series that provides an in-depth look into a variety of concerns cancer patients and their loved ones face following a diagnosis. The program includes educational booklets, professionally-led workshops and web content available at CSC's website www.cancersupportcommunity.org. FSAC provides the tools and confidence to build an effective partnership with a patient's health care team, family and friends. The face-to-face workshops empower patients, caregivers and loved ones to gain knowledge as it relates to their own cancer situation. This knowledge helps attendees gain confidence in their ability to make informed decisions in partnership with their health care team. During 2010 CSC Colorado is presenting FSAC educational workshops that address three topics: issues related to lung cancer; coping with the cost of care; and taking control of treatment side effects with medicine, mind and body. These workshops will be offered in partnership with Exempla Lutheran Medical Center, the University of Colorado Cancer Center and Exempla Saint Joseph Hospital.
