This is a long running bogus animal welfare operation. Structured to enrich board members etc.
The reviews are fake. There are serious issues regarding misappropriation of funds, qualified management, proper care of animals.
I have never met people with bigger hearts. For reasons beyond my control and with a great sadness, I needed to donate my birds to them. One of them was a macaw that I’ve had for 23 years And the other was a blue crowned parrot that I’ve had since 1977. I know that they are overwhelmed with animals but they still found the space and love to take care of mine. Whenever I text Gilcrease to check on their well-being, they always take the time to respond. My heart warms with gratitude every day when I walked into the living room and see them no longer there but know are In the best of care.
As a wildlife rehabber, the quality of life for an animal in captivity is very important to me. Whenever I have toured this facility, enclosures are clean ,fresh water is available, and there are enrichment activities for the animals. I see the passion and the work ethic from the staff members & I am impressed.
Definitely worth while for a fun family friendly trip.
I found out about Gilcrease Bird Sanctuary while looking to rehome Daisi, a female Cockato. I spoke with Amanda and she was most helpful and welcomed Daisi into Gildrease Bird Sanctuary. She gave me a tour and she really showed me how much she loves all the animals they have there and how well they take care of all of them. I feel comfortable and pleased that Daisi has a forever home where she is happy, loved and well taken care of. Thank you so very much Amanda, all who work there and volunteers for all the wonderful work that you do!
Since starting at Gilcrease nature sanctuary I have noticed that all of the employees really love working with and caring for all of the wonderful animals that we are responsible for. This is a job that you feel like has purpose. The morale level is great and everyone is more than willing to help each other complete tasks. Looking forward to helping a make a greater impact in or community - animal rescue education and providing a chance to relax in a natural environment. There are even a few people that started as volunteers and became full time employees.
The Gilcrease Nature Sanctuary is a great place for animal loves. The enclosures and property are clean. The staff is friendly. The animals are all beautiful.

I needed someone to take good care of a Frilled Lizard that was donated to our school. I found Gilcrease Bird sanctuary and called them up. They came out and picked up the Lizard and are taking great care of it. They are also using it to help educate others. I recommend them. They have the animals best interest in mind and are dedicated to educating others.
Great spot for kids and adults to get outdoors. Wide array of animals other than birds like llamas, ostriches, goats, and even reptiles. The amphitheater is nice and sometimes they have holiday related performances and events. Staff is welcoming and friendly and they even offer guided tours. They have done a good job improving the grounds over the last year and continue to add to an already nice place.
An amazing place full of wonderful animals, beautiful landscape and friendly caretaker. A lovely places for a weekend adventure.
Been there for about 3 months...it's an amazing place to work...the environment is family friendly...if you want to have a enjoyable time then head on over to Gilcrease Nature Sanctuary on Saturdays for Sanctuary Saturday...
I have been volunteering at Gilcrease for a few years now and I have enjoyed every moment of it. It is a place where great animals and birds have a wonderful place to enjoy a happy life. The staff is absolutely amazingI is a great place to visit and have a good time in nature

I have always had a beautiful experience while visiting Gilcrease Bird Sanctuary. Volunteering there gives me joy, it gives me peace. It also gives me great satusfaction to feel that I can contribute to help with taking care of the beautiful creatures there. I am always looking forward for the next time
Gilcrease takes great care of their sanctuary animals - providing clean environment, fresh food & social time. Gilcrease is a local treasure!
I started volunteering at Gilcrease Nature Sanctuary in 2010, became a board member years later, and have been Operations Manager since 3/25/20.
Successfully navigating this historic animal sanctuary through a pandemic and unprecedented time has been my life's greatest honor. With the help of an army of volunteers and the hardest working staff known to man, we made it through triumphantly.
I am proud to report that all inspections under my incredible team's management have been perfect. When longtime guests visit, they always remark the noticeable improvements.
We need your help. Please support Gilcrease Nature Sanctuary as nothing like it exists in Las Vegas. Support us into the future so we can carry on the legacy left to us by an amazing Nevadan pioneer family. Support us so we can grow and add more educational components to honor the many ice age fossils found under the ground we walk. Support us so we can be a link from the past to the present and keep history alive. Support us so that the animals that can outlive us all will have a forever home on these grounds.
Thank you and VEGAS STRONG!

Gilcrease is an amazing animal sanctuary. They have incredible goals and protocols in place to provide the best environment for the animals. The facility is very clean and animals are not stressed . They have a very large pond for domesticated rescue waterfowl.
This facility is under new management. They do a tremendous job with limited resources. Visit the animals and volunteer!
Vegas hidden treasure. This place is fun and interactive. Where else can you come close up to nature So many birds and ducks to see. There’s an ostrich that will perform a mating dance for you. The goats are friendly and just adorable. And turtles, they have turtles for our viewing pleasure. Definitely recommend this place for the whole family.
The most amazing place. Been to some wonderful events there. They are a God send to those animals that needed them.
I proudly volunteer at Gilcrease. I'm amazed at how hard the staff works! All the animals are tremendously cared for. I am happy to do my part with helping the animals & staff. Thank you for opening your doors & heart for me to help give back. I had fun making bird toys!
Gilcrease is a hidden gem in Las Vegas. The current Director is friendly and staff is caring. The #1 priority is the animals. They make sure each animals nutrition needs are met with the highest quality food. I am a bird lover and they have a free flight area for the Macaws and Cockatoos. They take in the unwanted animals including disabled ones. They provide enrichment to the animals. They also provide education to the public on the different animals. I absolutely love Gilcrease and appreciate and support everything they do for the animals.
I first heard of Gilcrease from a friend who had volunteered there off and on for sometime. They were changing the management and they needed some volunteers. I went with my friend and we helped with the pig's pens. During the time, I voulunteered there, the new management improved so many things since my first day there. They now or will soon have a vet on the property when needed, the pigs pens were fixed up with new watering holes to lay in when it is hot out. Their vet was coming in and checking all the animals health, doing their nails or feet, etc. it seemed to me that their biggest concern was for all the animals welfare. They also were sprucing up the place before they reopen after the Covid Virus. Everyone was trying to pitch in, new and old volunteers. So, with that being said, I think the new management has done a great job taking care of the animals and the park, too. It has been a lot of hard work, but thats what they do when they love their animals so much
Amazing time, the staff was
Profesional and they enaure everybody was following the correct sanitation guidelines. It was a pleasure to volunteer and help clean the some of the areas. I notice all animals were well attended. Great place to visit and most important to volunteer and enjoy a good time with friends and family,
Gilcrease is my companies “go-to” non-profit! Whenever my workmates and I look to volunteer to help our community, we choose Gilcrease. The staff is friendly, so appreciative, and thorough in setting us up to get the most done.
It is an animal sanctuary that is compassionate and connected about and to the animals they care for.
They make our community a better place by taking care of animals that are oft times disregarded or even discarded.
Thank Gilcrease Animal Sanctuary of Las Vegas for proving Las Vegas has a heart of gold!!!
I've been a volunteer at Gilcrease Bird Sanctuary this summer and am really impressed with how well the birds and animals are taken care of. The staff and director are really nice people.
I love the African Grey parrots, the goats in Bill's Barnyard, the desert turtles, Andrew the ostrich, Stanley the boar, and all the other residents there.
Gilcrease is an awesome Bird and Animal Sanctuary. They animals are all well cared for and new renovations are under way. Hopefully the public will be able to come and visit again soon. I have been a volunteer for just over a month and look forward to the time I am there.
I love these ponies, every visit takes me to my happy place.

I've been visiting the sanctuary since 1995 and volunteering the last few years. They are always advancing the grounds and improving the enrichment for the animals. Educating the public and helping foster a greater appreciation for all things critters to children of all ages. Gilcrease is a special place.
My name is Cheryl Irwin and I would like to give a glowing review for this wonderful sanctuary. I ended up with three roosters from a chick purchase that we’re all supposed to be Hens. We live in an area where they don’t allow roosters so I was in a quandary as to what to do as I did not want them to end up on somebody’s dinner plate. The girls at the sanctuary were just wonderful and our roosters, two of them ended up there are just doing great. One of the boys has already a little flock of Five hands following him around. The next one we took up there just got out of the cage and was rolling around in the grass it’s such a beautiful place and it’s staff are so devoted I highly recommend anybody who is an animal lover to to support this wonderful animal sanctuary.
I volunteered there for a few months and personally saw the love and care the animals received. The new management and workers do an amazing job. I look forward to going back soon!
My opinion: NO ONE should cage a free, healthy, bird. They are the one creature God created to fly high away from us. People don't care, and buy what they want on a whim... thank goodness for Gilcrease, who takes the dumped, unwanted, often injured (mentally and physically) and truly CARE FOR THEM.....
Gilcrease is a very special place....as the result of humans and non-education about animal welfare, this ends up being a last stop for many of the varieties of animals/pets.....each has a special story of how they ended up here and many have had multiple homes.....I hope that people can find this to be a place of education, a beautiful place to find Sanctuary amongst the grounds or a place to give back to your community....to help those without a voice

Gilcrease is a very special place that most importantly is there to educate the general public. Each and every animal that has come through these doors has a story behind them and how they got there....educating our kids that we should only adopt and do thorough research before inviting any pet into our homes, especially parrots.
Gilcrease Nature Sanctuary is a little piece of heaven in crazy Las Vegas. They have numerous animals, such as exotic birds, goats, chickens, peacocks, llamas, desert tortoises, pigs, koi fish and more. The animals there are very happy, well fed with clean cages and habitats and lots of wonderful toys to play with. They enjoy interacting with the staff and volunteers who give them lots of TLC every day. It's a great place to visit when you want to get away from the hustle and bustle of Las Vegas. Awesome for everyone, young and old.

I have been going to Gilcrease for the last 5 years since I moved to Las Vegas. It is such a wonderful place to visit, one of my favorite places in Las Vegas. It is a large animal sanctuary with a large variety of birds and farm animals. They are all adorable, of course, and it is so much fun to interact with them. They have large areas for the animals and have many volunteers who donate toys and games to stimulate them. I have been fortunate enough to be able to volunteer here multiple times with my work colleagues and it is always a very rewarding experience. I love Gilcrease so much...one of my favorite non-profits!
I have been a volunteer with Gilcrease for 18 years. It has been a challenge with the change of management and staff over the years as all of us only want what is best for the animals. In the last 6 years GNS has absolutely changed the conditions for these animals. It is not an ideal situation to have animals in pens in the middle of a desert, but the creativity of the staff and management make it the best living situation they can for these abused and/or abandoned animals. Thank you for allowing me to be a very small part in helping these animals...and thank you for being there for them!
I personally work for Gilcrease nature sanctuary for a little more than 3 years . I am the on site vet assistant and I think GNS has came a long way from where it was. Our goal is to make this sanctuary a clean and safe place for not only the animals but for our visitors. We have made tremendous progress on the property and still much more That GNS plans to do. we will continue to move forward from here. At the end of the day we want the animals to be healthy, have the proper care and food given. Everyone here has that same goal and I enjoy working here and what everyone’s trying to accomplish.
Wonderful place that truly cares about the welfare of these animals as well as the community.
I personally donate to Gilcrease from time to time and would recommend others join in helping this place.
Tommy-
I have been coming here for years and the animals are always well taken care of with fresh water and food and the staff is kind I would totally recommend this place!
I love this place ! The animals are well taken care of and loved. This place has taken in animals that would otherwise be put down. The volunteers and employees are super kind and knowledgeable.
On the surface it might look and sound good but this place is a prison it’s horrible for these birds The Board of Directors knows nothing about birds they lie about the care and do nothing about the quality of life . The birds are shoved in cages until they die lacking basic stimulation proper environment and decency.
Look at that toucan it’s the saddest thing a toucan should never be house like that it’s painful for their feet. The macaws purchase a way too big they have no stimulation they’re terrified
Review from Guidestar
I have been an active volunteer for nearly 13 years. My family loves visiting! So many amazing changes have taken place over the past few years..it just keeps getting better and better for the animals! Thank you for all that you do to help our feathered and furry friends♡
I have been taking my kids here since first taking my oldest back in 2010. It is an amazing gem in Las Vegas with an admirable mission. All the animals are well taken care of and the caregivers are incredibly kind. Looking forward to many more years taking my kids to enjoy this place!
Wonderful organization that cares deeply about all of the animals. Truly a Las Vegas oasis that everyone should take the time to visit.
I worked here for a year recently. I love Gilcrease. love the mission, love the volunteers, love the animals , love Bonnie the director that has made many improvements. i enjoyed seeing Storytime and Summer Camp develop and city kids learn in a comfortable hands-on farm/sanctuary environment.... all in the heart of Las Vegas!
My husband and I visited Gilcrease about 14 years ago when we first moved to Las Vegas, and we enjoyed the experience. I recently returned there with my daughter and my sister, and we were delighted to see all the wonderful improvements Bonnie, the director, has made. We love it there so much that we now volunteer whenever we get the opportunity. Gilcrease is a pretty, serene, happy place where the animals are loved and very well cared for. Bonnie's knowledge, particularly of birds, seems to know no bounds, and we are always learning something interesting from her. I highly recommend Gilcrease as a place to visit, particularly for a family with young children. There is lots to see and the caregivers are extremely friendly and welcoming. Gilcrease also offers a fun camp experience in the summer for elementary aged children and a monthly story time for the stroller set.
Gilcrease is a wonderful place to take the family to visit and learn about animals. It's evident that staff and volunteers care deeply about the residents there. Highly recommended.
Fabulous place to meet animals & learn about their care. Volunteering is fun & educational, and the events are a blast! The staff work tirelessly & it shows!
I visited Gilcrease sanctuary shortly after we moved to Las Vegas, and have been volunteering there ever since. Bonnie, the current director, is striving mightily to give each and every one of the animals at the sanctuary the best possible care and environment!! They do a whole lot with very little, and also provide a wonderful family-friendly place to visit. Until such time as people stop thoughtlessly buying-and then abandoning-exotic animals, we will need places like Gilcrease where such animals get compassionate care for the rest of their lives.
I love volunteering here, the staff are nice and it's always great to see the animals. Volunteering at the Sanctuary is a much more rewarding experience than I could have ever expected.
Gilcrease Bird Sanctuary has wonderfully cared for beautiful animals!! The caretakers take pride in providing for the animal residents and go far and above general provisions. They don't just give food and shelter, they give of themselves, love, nurture, care and compassion!! I started spending winters in Las Vegas after my Mom passed. This was quite a difficult time for me, but when I asked to volunteer at Gilcrease, I found new friends, both human and others with feathers and some with
fur!! I found a purpose! Those who organize the child centered activities seem to have endless energy!! Their attention to detail is remarkable!! I look forward to my volunteer time. The people who work at Gilcrease are upbeat, happy, and attentive. Nothing gets overlooked. I eagerly anticipate winter 2020 to continue volunteering at Gilcrease.
This is a wonderful sanctuary. It is a friendly and relaxing place to take a stroll and see several species of animals. They take great care of the animals many which, if not all, are rescued. The staff and volunteers obviously really care about what they do and are always helpful when you have questions. I really enjoy visiting.
I have been here several times. It's a wonderful place to go for a quick outing on the weekend. The animals are well cared for and the staff is nice. Very peaceful and enjoyable.
What a wonderful place. The people there are so nice and caring. I appreciate all they do with the animals. Keep up the great work!
I love this place. It's good to know that birds and animals find a safe home in such a beautiful setting. The care is exceptional and everyone there is committed to making the best home possible. Gilcrease makes our Las Vegas community a better place!
The wildlife and domestic animals are very fortunate to have such caring and dedicated people to look after them. They are a valuable asset to the Las Vegas community.
Not only are the animals well cared for, but this organization opens its doors for community projects by private industry & Scouts - their work enhances the environment for animals and the all important visitors. This is the "PLACE To GO" to celebrate Easter, Halloween and Christmas for their family oriented events - the children learn about the 4 legged animals and interact with a wide variety of birds, while enjoying the activities of the holidays. They even offer week long summer camps for kids, these kids get a more in depth look at animal care with hands on experience and learn for their future. Finally, the greater percentage of birds in their care are not pet - quality. These birds have a forever home and that is a very good thing!!
I have visited Gilcrease twice. The sanctuary is clean and beautiful. The staff care deeply for the animals and their welfare.
They go above and beyond to make sure that the animals are well cared for, have enrichment.
They also offer educational events to the public. That outreach in educating improves the welfare of animals not in their care so that maybe they won't need sanctuary. That is priceless.
My daughter started Volunteering with Gilcrease Bird Sanctuary thru the Nevada Promise Scholarship in February. Gilcrease was one of the few places that allowed these teens to volunteer and get their hours in for their scholarship which helps these teens and their families pay for college. Some of which would not be able to attend college without the scholarship. Bonnie and Tom was great with dealing with my daughter who has a anxiety and panic disorder. Everyone was great there and my daughter loves volunteering and working along side the animals. Even after she put in all her hours, she still goes there at least once a month to help out because of her love for the place. We both are forever grateful to the Sanctuary and all the staff for this experience! So going and donating not only helps the animals but also you are helping our youth to reach their goals of attending college!
I had always heard of Gilcrease and the wonderful sanctuary that they have and finally went one day. I loved every moment. There were so many exotic birds and the duck pond was so beautiful. The ostruch were a bit angry but the goats in petting zoo were so cute and playful. It was definately an afternoon well spent. Please take your kids and enjoy this wonderful sanctuary. ❤❤❤
I’ve taken my kids here to volunteer a couple of times and they loved it. So many different animals to visit and the staff were so kind and patient!
Gilcrease Bird Sanctuary not only does a lot for the animals living there but for the community as well. We love visiting Gilcrease for the community events for all ages. They have arts and crafts, yoga, reading, just to name a few. They definitely fill a need in the NW community and Bonnie the director has really done something special for Gilcrease!

We know who wrote this and please disregard as it is untrue and biased from a vindictive person. Our animals do not deserve to have their home libeled in this way.
