Programs: Outreach center - the mission of the outreach center is to provide educational, supportive and outreach services to people in need in the wyandanch area and local surrounding communities. The center assists local families with various services. The most requested service is for emergency food packages that include food for three days. In addition, other services include: clothing, referrals, supportive counseling, advocacy, budgeting and immigration assistance. Tuesday night shelter operates once a week in the winter months offering homeless men and women shelter from the cold. In addition to a warm bed, dinner, breakfast, a toiletry kit, boxed lunch and clothing are provided. Case management is offered to help with housing and other needs.
summer camp the summer camp is a very important service in the wyandanch community for children who do not have other options for summer fun. It provides day care at the time when children are out of school and provides creative and positive activites to keep them occupied. The camp hires teenagers from the community to work as counselors. This is an opportunity for the teens to develope leadership qualities, and provides a constructive and creative work experience. In addition, the camp hires certified teachers who bring an educational component to each campers daily activities which include, but are not limited to reading, writing and math.
food pantry, this program receives grant money to operate. The money is exlusively used to purchase food to supply the emergency food packages described in the outreach center program. The use of this money for any other purpose is strictly prohibited.
