After seeing the sign on the curb, I first looked up the web address. As I read, I thought "maybe this is actually the place I've searched for, for forty years". That next Sunday, I went by myself to check it out. As I walked through the doors, the band was warming up the crowd before the service, and I thought "WHOA! This is what a band should sound like!" Pete (Kirkland) was singing, and frankly they already had me before I had a chance to sit down. And actually, I didn't sit for long, because pretty soon I was up and dancing like a bunch of the other people.
Up in the front, on the wall , it said "God is Love". That's my kind of God, I thought. There were a couple of congregational songs; not staid, repetitive songs, but songs with words that were inspirational. "Use me, oh God, I stand for you,and here I'll abide as you show me all that I must do". I love that. It dawned on me, that WE are how God answers prayer. Bread, money, assistance doesn't fall down from the sky very often. Usually it comes in a very non-supernatural way from someone or something.
Then the "sermon" started, and it was exactly what I needed to hear. Love, not condemnation. Acceptance, not a litmus test of doctrines. Tools to use, to help make my life better. A road map and a promise: change your thoughts, change your life.
Like I said, they had me at the music, but the Science of Mind philosophy sealed the deal. They've had me every Sunday since. If I can't be there in person, I can watch real time on Facebook, or catch Rev Gayle's talk later on YouTube. Check it out, you'll see. Then, come in person, and experience the love for yourself. I've wandered into many churches during my forty year search, but the hugs and warmth you will get here is genuine. Everyone is welcome, everyone is cherished. You,too, will discover your Church Home, AT LAST.
