Nonprofit Overview

Causes: Cancer

Mission: Gardner’s House is a place for cancer survivors and their families to go for Respite, a place to help them relieve some stress, for children to get counseling in private, but most of all to help those who are dying in silence. To fill the void that is left by this disease, a home away from home, a place of peace and quiet, a safe Haven, an oasis in the desert for survivors and family, a place to heal body soul and mind and to get away from the hospital and hospice atmosphere as far as possible. To help with recuperation, it will be a positive caring place to be. We will be looking for ways to help those in need financially and emotionally, to get the help they need. (Please! so many are running out of Time)

Gardner's House is an organization that I have donated my time and money to because the fullness of each donation is used to help Cancer survivors and their families with real needs. This is accomplished soley through fundraising and donations made. Unfortunately, the larger charities do not share their funding or donations with smaller nonprofits like GHI. There is so much more that is needed and can be accomplished if we are willing to just help. Also, Gardner's House founder and CEO Maggie, does not get paid for what she does. She maintains a staff of all volunteers while giving of herself tirelessly. She is on call 24 hours a day and allows anyone in need to reach her by her personal cell phone. (Try reaching Susan G Komen that way. Susan's $599,000/yr salary would be put to great use at GHI!) Those of you who participate in charitable giving through United Way in your workplace, can choose GHI as a place of donation. Please, donate your time and money TODAY!

I have been volunteering at Gardner’s House since 2013 and I am still amazed at how it's founder, Maggie Gardner manages to help so many with so little. It is her personal goal to never have to turn anyone who needs help, away. GHI is increasing it's efforts at fundraising, developing community partnerships and overall development in order to establish the best resources for the community it serves. GHI was recently selected by The Doll's House Foundation and awarded a grant to provided resources for families like help with food, rent, medical, healthy eating and advocacy. GHI still provides assistance to those who need it most. Donate and /or Volunteer TODAY!

i am so grateful that the program is still running. A program that helps people and their family who are effected with cancer. Helping with basic needs such as food and etc. The little money that we had left, we could put it on a bill or medication or transportion. And the program helps by getting the things we cannot get for ourselfs. Very bless that this program is a part of Gardner House.

I am president of a foundation that makes grants to people who are indigent, elderly, and often, ill. Our recipients apply for assistance through partner agencies that do hands-on work with these clients. One of our most compassionate and effective partners is Gardner's House. Maggie Gardner and the folks at Gardner's House are a pleasure to work with. They have a knack of helping those who are most in need of assistance. I don't know how they find their clients, but I do know that the clients couldn't be in better hands. Gardner's House is a fierce, tireless advocate for those who are suffering from any kind of cancer, which includes the less "sexy" cancers. There are no walkathons, runs, golf tournaments, t-shirts, or crowd-based fundraising efforts for many of those who come to Gardner's House. Gardner's House and Maggie Gardner helps all of them. Food, housing, utility bills, medical expenses, furniture, special clothing, transportation - anything clients need to help them survive the most debilitating diseases and treatments is something to be sought and provided. I admire the work they do and their effectiveness in meeting the needs of the people for whom they do it. They deserve any assistance and recognition available.

Excellent organization!!! As a breast cancer survivor I needed help with finances. Medical bills were adding up and having to pay a $4,000 deductible before the insurance company would contribute gave me anxiety. I have always worked full-time with full benefits. Although during my cancer journey I was working part-time agency. Maggie at the Gardner House was able to write a letter on my behalf and get help to assist me in paying my rental bill.
By doing this for me I was able to free up some monies and buy my much needed medical supplements which cost a great deal of money. I will be forever grateful for her efforts in understanding my burdens. People don't understand when your fighting cancer it takes so much out of a patient mentally and physically. We are trying to fight to live and also fight to not lose everything we worked so hard before being diagnosed with cancer. Ms. Gardner has gone through cancer 2 times and understands the struggle and shows empathy to those in need of help.

Forever Grateful
Denise

Gardner’s House, Inc. is a cancer respite facility in the city of Hartford. This organization does outstanding work assisting all those affected by cancer with information, basic needs – including housing, rental assistance, heating, meals- and information on getting medical assistance. This organization does extraordinary work with minimal resources from generous supporters and a major charity event, the annual Pretty in Pink Ball. The director, Ms. Maggie Gardner, a two-time cancer survivor, goes over and above to assist others. She is the personification of “the energizer bunny”.

Gardner's House is the nonprofit organization for whom this review is written. Gardner's House has proven itself as a valuable organization in the Hartford, Connecticut community. It's effort to assist families survive everyday life issues while in the battle of cancer sets it aside from other organizations. I personally witnessed two individuals apply for assistance to avoid eviction and termination of utilities. Her fight for funding to assist her clients spans to the state and federal levels, individuals and other organizations. They also raise funds at their annual Pretty In Pink Gala, which is their major annual project for fundraising. We, Woman of Hope was the recipient of their 2018 Community Service Award. We, Woman of Hope, have provided Gardner's House with Thanksgiving Baskets for the past seven years. Not only does Gardner's House receive from the community, but it gives back. Maggie Gardner continues as the phenomenal, enthusiastic, leader of Gardner's Howse.

Gardner’s House Inc. is a beacon hope and empowerment in the greater Hartford CT area. At the helm of this organization is Miss Maggie Gardner, a two time breast cancer survivor who used her adversity to create this gift for others who have suffered the same fate as her. The basic needs including food, rent and other valuable resources offered through this organization is welcome relief both for survivors and their families when they have lost resources due to challenges financial and otherwise that can result from a cancer diagnosis. I have witnessed this assistance first hand through friends who have benefitted from the relief provided by Gardner’s House.
Miss Gardner and the volunteers in her organization encapsulate the notion that we can all play our part in giving of ourselves and making a difference in our community.

Gardner's House continues to serve the underserved community of cancer patients and their families in the Greater Hartford, Conn. area. Maggie Gardner, President and Founder, guides its programs of assistance in the basic necessities of living, such as food, housing and medical needs . Even the state of Connecticut's help line refers inquiries for assistance to Gardner's House. All are welcomed : patients needing help with their rent, their utility bills, and references to community resources for varied medical needs; families who can't afford a Thanksgiving dinner; children yearning for Xmas presents, find a welcoming reception at Gardner's House where many of their wishes come true.

Gardner House a non profit oranization, who helps families that are affected with cancer. This oranization helps with basic needs. When a person is going through treatments and medication they struggle to keep up with things. Some cant work because of the side effect of medication. They stuggle with bills, food and rent and dont have enough to cover up for the important things. So that's when gardeners house steps in help by trying to get funds and programs, to help those that are suffering. Its a blessing to have maggie gardner co founder of gardners house. Gardner's House is a non organization that helps people who is affected with cancer. This organization also helps people who are struggling, with their rent, food, light, gas. Whats so different with this organization is they call or come to see how you are doing. They ask how can they help .And you just dont here from them one time, always someone checking on you.GhI help me out by going to their support group, helping with gas, rent, and letting me know about other programs , which can benefit. Like a food program i am in.If it weren't for GhI, I would be lost or out on the street.I thank god for this organization and the founder who is Maggie Gardner. She is a blessing to me.

The very first time I met her I knew that there's something special about her, she's warm and easy to talk to. Maggie has stretched out her hands to people of all color and walks of life, she doesn't show any preference where you're from and what situation you're in she's there for you! I'm proud to say it's a pleasure going to Gardner's house for the monthly meetings and meeting new people. Maggie continue the marvelous work that you're doing.

I am amazed by dedication and commitment of Gardner’s house members and volunteers in reaching out to cancer patients and their families with encouragement, financial and emotional support in the Hartford Connecticut area. I recently attended Gardner’s House annual pretty n’ Pink fundraising event. I heard the names of those who have lost the battle, and saw the faces of those who are still fighting the battle, I was overwhelm with a sense of “ I need to do more to help Gardner’s House Inc help more cancer patients and their families”. This disease is claiming too many of our brightest people. I wish more people and organizations can contribute to Gardner’s House Inc, so we can celebrate those who have triumph over cancer.
