The Gabrielle's Angel Foundation has such a big impact on early-career investigators working on hematological malignancies. Their grants have been awarded to all the most prominent scientists in the field at the time they were just starting. These grants at this early-career moment are critical to lay the foundations of many independent research laboratories. They strengthen the workforce in basic heme malignancies research, and they are the stepping stone for many big discoveries and additional funding. They awarded one of my first grants when I started my own lab and, in doing so, they have been instrumental in my career, and I will be forever grateful!

The Angel Ambassadors who speak at each event are deeply inspiring as they share how this research has helped them to recover and thrive thanks to new, cutting-edge treatments. It is an honor to volunteer with Gabrielle's Angel Foundation and I am grateful to play a small part in helping to raise more than $43M for blood cancer research.
I remember Gaby Rich - not just the girl with the brightest smile in the room, but the force of nature who lit it up. She had that rare alchemy of adventure and warmth, of fearless curiosity paired with a laugh that could fill an entire room. As roommates at school, we were conspirators, navigating the nonsense and chaos of youth with an unspoken understanding and a bucketload of laughter. Gaby had a way of making even the dullest day feel like the start of something extraordinary. Her enthusiasm was contagious, her spirit unbreakable. To say she lived boldly would be an understatement - she was a comet burning so brightly you almost couldn't look at her without feeling her energy fill your bones. Gaby was more than a friend; she was a whirlwind, a reminder that life is too short for anything but joy and laughter. We celebrate not just the memories but the magic of having known her. The world is much dimmer without her in it but it's also much better for having had her in it!

I have been involved with Gabrielle's Angel Foundation since 2018, while I was undergoing chemotherapy for a rare cancer. Over the years, I have been fortunate to work with the team to help share my story at various events and help raise the crucial funds needed for cancer research. The millions raised each year goes toward funding research for new and innovative therapeutic treatments for blood cancers, which will help improve outcomes for patients and their families all over the world. I feel so lucky to be a small part of this unbelievable organization that continues to fund groundbreaking work!
For the past 15 years, Gabrielles Angel Foundation for Cancer Research has been supporting the music therapy program, bringing thousands of bedside visits to cancer patients and their caregivers. Due to this unwavering commitment, our team has been able to consistently train students, participate in research and develop new ways to meet the needs of people living with cancer. The impact of this organization cannot be overstated.

The Gabrielle's Angel Foundation (GAF) played a critical role in my lab's leukemia research. They funded our work at a time that our leukemia research was still in an exploratory phase. With the support of the GAF we propelled our work forward and my lab at UCSF now has a substantial leukemia research section funded by two large NIH grants. We aim to improve therapy for T cell leukemia patients. We could not have done this without their help. Besides their obvious philanthropic qualities, they are just the nicest, helpful people at the GAF. Thank you for all you do for the cancer patients.

By focusing on young investigators, who often have the most creative ideas, Gabrielle’s Angel Foundation is able to accelerate the development of novel cancer therapies. Young investigators often have difficulty attracting funding from traditional sources, such as the National Cancer Institute, especially for high-risk, cutting edge ideas. Therefore, Gabrielle’s Angel Foundation fills a unique need in innovative cancer research across the country.
I was privileged to have received a grant from Gabrielle’s Angel Foundation at a critical, early stage in my career. That funding was catalytic, and led directly to our clinical trials testing new, targeted approaches to the treatment of leukemias. In looking at the scientists and physicians who have been supported by Gabrielle’s Angel Foundation over the years, it is clear that their impact on cancer research and therapy across the country has been enormous. Although the funded research is primarily focused on leukemias and lymphomas, the advances in understanding these diseases have immediate impacts on the treatments of many other forms of cancer as well. Gabrielle’s Angel Foundation is a model of how a non-profit can have a critical and outsized effect on a hugely important public health issue such as cancer.
