New Zion Families and Youth Initiatives, also known as New Zion FYI, implements programs, information and initiatives that empower families to strengthen their individual capabilities so that they can improve their socioeconomic status. One such initiative is a reading program called "Come Read With Us." Students pre-k through high school are inspired to love reading and may also receive tutoring in math and other subjects where needed. Children meet with volunteers every Monday for one hour to practice and improve their reading skills. It does my heart good when the hour is up, we let the children know that it is time to leave and they respond with various choruses of No! Even struggling and below grade readers are not ready to leave. They want to read more! One of our middle school young men even asked to take a book home so he could do a report and bring it back next Monday (totally his idea). Pre-school children from 3 years old learn to recognize alphabet, numbers, shapes and more. They also learn to sit and listen to and discuss age appropriate stories. This is a dynamic program! Mission: The mission of Families and Youth Initiatives Community Partnership, Inc, is to implement initiatives and provide access to resources that empower families in at-risk communities to strengthen their individual capabilities and enable them to improve their socioeconomic status.
Results: We recently moved into an area that, up to now, had no services directly available in their community. FYI Community Partnership, Inc. decided to assist this community by renting a space that we use as a Community Resource Center and offer the type of services that are typically found in other at-risk communities. As residents learn of the services we provide they come to the center to sign up for benefits, for literacy programs and homework help, computer lab and computer training, We currently provide transitional housing and life skills programs for 5 young people who have aged out of foster care within the past 2 months. This initiative is growing as we expect to have up to 15 youth by the end of the year.
Target demographics: families strengthen their individual capabilities and enable them to improve their socioeconomic status.
Direct beneficiaries per year: 125 youth and adults in the Pinellas County area.
Geographic areas served: Clearwater, Florida's Lake Belleview Community and surrounding areas
Programs: a community resource center that offers a variety of initiatives, including literacy programs for children to adults, homework help, assist families in need of help with personal communications, with public computers, internet, fax, printer, and copier; help youth and adults with career and job searches, including help with resume and training. We also provide life skills programs as well as transitional housing and wrap around services for teens who age out of foster care. Additionally, we are a partner site for DCF ACCESS for persons to apply and update their food stamps, Medicaid and other benefits.

In 2016 we changed our name to FYI Community Partnership in order to expand our services directly to the communities we serve. We have also opened a community resource center in the Lake Belleview Community where resident may make applications for benefits, receive help with job searches, kids can get reading and homework help and other human services.
