Causes: Adult & Child Matching Programs, Children & Youth, Crime & Law, Youth Development, Youth Development Programs, Youth Violence Prevention

Mission: To provide programs to low-income, high-risk children and youth, ages 8 to 14, from under-served communities that will challenge and inspire them to reach higher, achieve more and learn how to create their own possibilities, both now and in the future.

Results: Future Possibilities, Inc. was founded in 1994 by Lorraine White in New York City and is currently headquartered in Columbus, Ohio. More than 2,500 children from various boroughs of New York and the inner city of Columbus have graduated from our program and applied their newly developed life skills to make a positive difference in their communities. This unique coaching organization has since expanded into Toronto, Ontario, and most recently to Sydney, Australia. The organization has no paid staff and is run by an active Board of Directors guiding a structured committee system of volunteers. We are the proud recipient of the “Golden Ruler Award” presented by the Columbus Board of Education as the best partnership between the public city schools and the local business community.

Future Possibilities is a charity devoted to improving the life skills of underprivileged children. The organization's mission is to work with elementary-aged children on goal-setting, communication skills, and achievement, among other relevant areas. I can't speak highly enough about this group, their mission, and the youth they have assisted in the Columbus community.

great experience engaging kids with a purpose. In past experiences working with kids in this kind of environment, the program has been very general. This program is all about coaching kids to success and engaging them to set goals and be accountable to the actions they identify to accomplish them.

Have had several great experiences working with the kids. Especially enjoyed the excitement to take my young girl and her mother through the Humane Society after she made her donation of $$ to the director. Her goal at 5th grade is to become a veterinarian.

Future Possibilities is a great opportunity to serve our youth right here in Columbus, Ohio. The focus on goal setting is so powerful. I love seeing the difference KidCoaches have on the self esteem of the kids involved with the program.

I have been a KidCoach for two years and a Lead Coach for one year. As a KidCoach, I was deeply impacted by my kids. During my first year, my kid was faced with family instability and poverty. In spite of this, she set a goal to help others who were less fortunate than herself. She wanted to collect 50 canned food items for the Faith Mission men's shelter. She tripled her goal and collected 150 canned goods. She was able to deliver these items to the shelter. Though she may have not felt the immense sense of accomplishment then, she recognized the remarkableness of what she had done a few months later when she e-mailed me, "I never said thank you to you, but I'm so proud of what we accomplished." Knowing that she took that with her and now knows she is capable of accomplishing anything means much more to me than the 150 cans.

My second kid was also an incredible experience, and in fact, though the school year is long over, she and I still speak frequently. She is a brilliant, but shy, young lady. As such, I think she may get overlooked in school for additional support. I made it my mission to listen to her stories and encourage her to be whatever she wanted to be. I have seen this extra support and encouragement help her blossom into a confident little girl who believes deeply in herself.

Future Possibilities helps children access their own agency and understand that they are capable of anything they set their mind to. Through a series of 18 lessons, 3 work shops, and simple conversations, that take just 1 hour of your day, you can change the life path of a child.
