Nonprofit Overview
Causes: Education, Literacy, Remedial Reading & Encouragement
Mission: Our mission is the provide an effective way to accelerate reading to be at grade level proficiency by the 4th grade. The national reading assessment by the National Assessment on Educational Progress has shown that 65% of all 4th-grade students read at a level defined as below grade-level proficiency. 34% of 4th-grade students read at a level defined as "below Basic proficiency. Our mission is to use digital lessons and trained reading coaches to provide a tutor-like environment for each individual student, allowing that student to learn key skills at their natural pace. Reading lessons are 25 minutes including the personal review with the reading coach. The results have exceeded our expectations.
Results: A summer reading program with the Los Banos Unified School District provided 18 days of a summer program for 100 students. Each student received a daily 1 ¼ hour lesson, Monday through Friday. Results showed a significant improvement in reading skills, some students gains as much as 4-6 months in reading skill levels. Programs: A complete reading curriculum for grades K-3 with digital video lessons in a tutor-style format, aligned with the student workbook. We train para-professionals to be reading coaches in individual coaching sessions.
