I am both a donor and volunteer for From Houses to Homes. My family has made three trips to Guatemala to build homes. The program is very thoughtfully constructed to address housing, health care, and educational needs of families. The trips have been humbling and inspiring. I can think of no other charity that makes a greater impact than FHTH with the donations that I make.
I first learned about From Houses to Homes when they were honored at a CARE International event. My best friend, son and I were so impressed by the purity of their mission that we signed up to go to Guatemala that following summer. We've gone twice now, and not only has it changed my view of the world, but my family's also. We loved building with the staff at FHTH as much as we enjoyed the families we built for. I was also very impressed that the organization saw what the needs were for the community and without hesitation set forth to provide for those needs. The results have been two schools and a medical clinic to support the communities they already build in. If you have a teenager that thinks their car, clothes, phone, etc. isn't good enough, take them on a trip to the magical countryside of Guatemala and watch their priorities change over night. Watching kids hand families the keys to their new homes is a life changer.
