Nonprofit Overview

Mission: The Friends of Tietze Park Foundation is a registered non-profit (501(c)(3)) organization established in 2002, whose mission is the improvement, preservation and continued beautification of Tietze Park, in Dallas, Texas. Begun as a grassroots effort to clean up and improve the park, It is made up of neighborhood volunteers and park users who passionately support the best nine-acre park on the planet! Originally named Keith Park, the City of Dallas purchased the nine acres in 1924. The park was renamed Tietze Park in 1934 in honor of W.R. Tietze, Superintendent of Parks from 1896 to 1933. Tietze Park is an amazing collection of attractions—a swimming pool, baseball diamond, basketball court, tennis court, picnic areas, two children's playgrounds, a ½ mile paved path, two fitness stations, an open grassy area, and majestic oak and bois d’arc trees. The pavilion that provides shade for picnicers, rooms for storage and an entrance to the pool is a beautiful structure made of Palo Pinto stone and constructed as part of the New Deal work programs in the 1930’s.

FOTP has facilitated or directly sponsored numerous improvements to one of the most utilized parks in Dallas. In addition advocacy to the city has resulted in additional improvements.

The Friends was established when the park was in extreme disarray with area residents reluctant to utilize the park. Since that time with the focused effort of the Friends & support of the city, the park is a jewel in the city park system.

The FOTPF has had continued success in efforts of park stewardship, community activism and volunteerism, park improvements, preservation, and collaboration with neighborhoods, designers, and the city. The FOTPF serves as a model and inspiration for other parks friends groups throughout north Texas! Their efforts are invaluable to ensure park projects are both guided by needs and input from neighbors and park users, and are funded and completed. As a result of their work, our historic buildings have been preserved, play and open space areas have improved, fitness options provided, plazas constructed, flags fly on a new pole, neighbors regularly gather for events, and the neighborhood pool has been saved from removal and will instead get re-developed! All neighborhoods need a Friends group of volunteers like the FOTPF!

The Friends of Tietze Park Foundation is a group of selfless volunteers working to make one of Dallas' best neighborhood parks even better. Led by Lisa Marshall for the last ten years, the FOTP Foundation has meant better playgrounds for kids, better tennis courts for tennis enthusiasts, better basketball courts for hoopsters, a killer .5 mile running/walking surface around the park, fitness stations, and lights and maintenance for our ballfield. Their work will be capped off by working with the City to plan and redevelop our neighborhood Tietze Park pool. The Foundation also sponsors National Night Out, Tietze Splash, Pumpkins in the Park and the annual fundraiser Tietze Shred. Our diverse East Dallas neighborhood wouldn't be the same without our awesome Tietze Park and its cheerleaders at the Friends of Tietze Park Foundation!
