I became friends with Lorraine Cherry and Dave Dyer almost from the time they moved to Timbergrove. The immediately worked to save West 11th Street Park from becoming a school, then condominiums, by rallying everybody to get involved, and that we did! I was born across the street from the park, and my whole life was spent there, so I was on the front lines of an organized effort to really save it, for the immediate neighborhood, and for the entire city. Lorraine Cherry passed on November 25th, and she leaves a legacy of caring and service to the community right up there with the effort to save Memorial Park in the 1920's. Generations not even born yet will see what was done here, and hear the stories of how this was saved from destruction, and they will say, "Lorraine Cherry and Timbergrove did this, I can do this."
