Friends of the Lower Blue River's mission is to sustain and protect the traditional agricultural character, promote the safety of the residents, livestock and wildlife, and maintain the environmental integrity of the Lower Blue River Valley through education, collaboration and community involvement. The Lower Blue is one of the most pristine areas in the state of Colorado. FOLBR is also committed to addressing climate change and its effect on water, wildlife and wildfire. This organization is exploring and executing sustainable climate action projects to help address our changing environment. It is also working in close collaboration with other likeminded organizations to achieve its goals.

The work Friends of the Lower Blue River is doing is forward looking and important for our community. Our climate director, Tom Koehler, is doing extensive studies on the soil in the lower blue river valley, and educating the ranchers and homeowners in ways to improve their soil for abundant health of crops, animal nutrition, and carbon capture. They have initiated an animal evacuation plan for wildfires, and helped improve cell phone coverage for residents.
One of the most important challenges facing this area is over development. They successfully fought to defeat plans to build a gravel pit, and continue to monitor the issues facing the community to preserve the historical nature of the lower blue river valley.
Thumbs up to Friends of the Lower Blue River!
