Mission: The bass is miami beachs contemporary art museum, presenting contemporary art to excite, challenge and educate.
Programs: In collins park, the bass installed ugo rondinone's miami mountain, a permanent installation and part of the museum's collection, and continued the exhibition of sylvie fleury's eternity now neon atop the building exterior.
during fiscal year 2017, the bass museum of art remained closed while completing the extensive renovation and transformation to open october 2017. Without a physical exhibition space, the museum focused on programming public art installations within collins park and continuing a partnership with walgreens for the window display at their location in the neighborhood of the museum. The walgreens windows project space features emerging artists on a rotating basis, furthering the bass mission to present contemporary art to the surrounding community, in order to excite, challenge and educate. From october 2016 to september 2017, the bass presented installations by miami-based artists nice 'n easy (alison matherly and jeffrey noble) and kyle r. B. Chapman.
the bass also continued a robust output of educational programming throughout the community, along with regular classes held at miami beach regional library, adjacent to the museum. Programs were held for children ages 2-12 and adults, and included: bass babies (weekly on wednesdays), ideas free family day (last sunday of every month, excluding december), portfolio workshop (bi-weekly on saturdays), art club for adults (bi-weekly on thursdays), spring art camp (april 10-14, 2017), summer art camp (july 17-28), ideas creativity in the community (ongoing), general public outreach (ongoing). The bass also held the free, annual miami symphony orchestra concert in collins park on february 12, 2017
