Tallahassee is an important Indian center with Clovis points found in Aucilla, Mississippian mounds at Lake Jackson and elsewhere, the Desoto winter encampment, and the Mission San Luis recreation of a Spanish-Apalachee encampment.

I recently attended the Preservation on Main Street 2021 conference with other board members. We really liked the blended tracks offered by Florida Main Street and the Florida Trust. The three day conference was jam packed with awesome speakers. The keynote and closing session was phenomenal. The giveback community event gave us a chance to learn by doing historic surveys. The conference will be in Deland next year. I recommend everyone to go!

I'm someone who once never cared much for history. My children went on some field trips to assorted museums involved in Florida History. They LOVED it. They rave about Mission San Luis and The Grove. Being naturally curious I looked into the FFH non-profit and became enthralled by the history of my home state. I am ecstatic that such an organization exists and am very pleased that our history will be preserved.

Florida history is very important. Children must learn from the past so as to not repeat the mistakes of our forefathers.

Top notch! Friends of Florida History supports high quality programmatic activities at Mission San Luis and The Grove Museum. There are many educational events all year round at both of these museums. Both sites are fun and informative places to visit as well as a great way to learn about history in the sunshine state.
