They work tirelessly to help the dog of Detroit! The new facility and implementation of group play for the dogs has made a tremendous difference in their socialization.
I have taken dogs out on dogventures. This is where you pick a dog and take the pup for a few hours or more to a local park etc., to get the dog out of the shelter environment. They have the most amazing dogs. All shelter employees always go above and beyond to assist you and they give you a whole folder with tips about where to go, treats, collapsible water bowl and toys in a bag so you have everything you need. Getting the dogs out of a shelter has proven to make them more adoptable and they get time out of a very noisy environment. Again they have the most amazing dogs just waiting for a new home!
We're currently fostering with the intent to adopt while our baby is undergoing heartworm treatment. She ended up having complications (her worms most likely have grown to adult size) this past week and Emily at FoDACC has been so supportive through everything... From my frantic 5AM emergency call through 36 hours of hospitalization, and I have no doubt she'll be a pivotal part of getting us all through the next 6 weeks of additional treatment. Thank you for everything!
We are adopting our second dog from DACC. The volunteer group (Friends of DACC) is amazing! They offer so many ways to interact with available cats and dogs. From Pajama Party sleepovers, to Day Outings and Community Adoption events, they make it easy for you to find the perfect fit before committing to Foster or Adopt. We Fostered both of our dogs first and the financial and medical support is amazing!
I have volunteered with Friends of Detroit Animal Care and Control (FoDACC) for about a year and a half. It is easily the most rewarding experience I've ever had. FoDACC works so hard every single day to improve the lives of homeless pets in Detroit, and to minimize pet homelessness in the first place. It's a very tough job, but I am inspired by my fellow volunteers who pour their hearts, minds, and time into the effort. I would happily devote myself to FoDACC full-time if I didn't need to make a living!
