Programs: Hosted free events to increase public awareness and use of ballard park. Twenty-four events were held over the course of the year ranging from a display of lights in february to concert and movie screenings as well as hikes and clean ups. 5,446 people attended events at ballard park.
fbp provided educational field trips for children, after school programs, home school lessons and activities during the summer months. 781 elementary, middle and high school students from aquidneck island and jamestown visited ballard park for one of these programs in fy17. Hands-on learning opportunities in ballard park compliment school science lessons. During the summer months, local social service agencies bring their clients to the park for nature lessons activities which keep them active, promote socialization, connect them with nature, and help avoid the summer learning slump.
friends of ballard park is dedicated to protecting, maintaining and promoting newports only nature preserve. Its goals are to ensure ballard park remains a wild and natural open space for future generations; encourages the local public to visit and use the park; provide educational and cultural opportunities for local youth and families and highlight the unique qualities and historical importance of ballard park.
