Mission: The mission of the friends of auburn heights preserve inc. Is to educate the public firsthand about an american way of life that flourished at the dawn of the automotive age, to preserve the technology of historic steam transportation, and to serve as an advocate for the auburn heights preserve.
Programs: Historic preservation: a central component of the friends of auburn heights preserve's mission is the conservation, preservation, maintenance and responsible operation of its collection of antique automobiles and locomotives, including original stanley steam cars. The training of volunteers in critical maintenance and restoration tasks remains a core focus.
education & public outreach: fahp provides on-site and off-site programs designed to share with a broad public audience the history and impact of steam technology, the evolution of the automobile (including the history of the stanley motor carriage co. ), and the influence of the marshall family on delaware industrial history. The organization holds 13 public events from april through november, hosts private tours as well as open house tour dates & field trips, and conducts children's outreach programs across the region.
publications: fahp produces four educational publications designed to foster a greater understanding of steam technology and automotive/railroad history, with emphasis on the impact of yorklyn on delaware's industrial growth: (1) quarterly auburn heights herald, with articles that support the museum's interpretive focus and provide updates on educational projects; (2) weekly e-news, which offers a brief story by founder thomas c. Marshall jr. As well as updates on restoration/maintenance activities; (3) an informative catalog associated with the auburn heights invitational; (4) volunteer e-newsletter and monthly web blasts to keep the volunteer team and public informed of key activities and opportunities.
