Mission: We save animals lives. We find creative ways to do it and are passionate about success at it. Animals are our primary clients and everything we do is based on what is in their best interest individually or as a group.
Programs: Our highly effective adoption programs place animals that would not make it out of other programs alive. 75% of the animals we place in loving homes would not meet the definition of "adoptable" in many other programs. Our adoption programs include careful screening of potential adopters, veterinary reference checks, and a lifetime guarantee on all pets. At any time we will take an ffl animal back into our no kill program should the adopter's circumstances change. Our mobile adoption vehicle (mav) travels all over houston and the surrounding areas to make adoptable animals accessible at exciting events.
our fix houston program has provided over 215 free surgeries for the pets and community cats of the low income target area we serve, thus preventing approximately 2,000 births in the neighborhood. We are honored to be half of the first ever public/private partnership between city animal control and a private shelter bringing free dog spay/neuter funded by the city and free cat spay/neuter funded by friends for life/fix houston. Getting ahead of the curve of incoming animals is a significant step on the road to a no kill city. We supply free feral cat trap loans to the community and facilitate transport of both owned and community free roaming cats to the clinic to be altered.
our thinking outside the shelter program has as its goal keeping animals (owned, feral, or community) out of the shelter system. It has assisted thousands of families to keep their animals out of shelters. The program provides free animal food, supplies, (crates, leashes, collars, wormer, flea preventative, litter, etc. ) transport, and professional animal training. Ffl receives daily requests that involve about 200 animals. We also provide kits to assist with nurturing very young kittens. Our trap, neuter, release program loans feral cat traps to the community, assists in trapping, and facilitates the neutering of feral cats.
