I've worked closely with this organization as a volunteer and now a Board member for almost 6 years. The dedication and genuine enthusiasm each member of this organization has to fight against modern day slavery and support victims is awe-inspiring. The educational resources they've amassed and created continues to keep me informed and knowledgeable. The outreach and campaigns are easily accessible to the public and have tangible, real-life consequences, making the world a better place. Every dollar this non-profit raises is received as a blessing, and careful thought and consideration is given to how it will be effectively used. I am so proud to be associated with Freedom United!
I am so appreciative of the education and outreach Freedom United does every day to fight human trafficking and modern day slavery. Their petitions and calls to action are playing a significant role in both government reform and holding companies responsible for their supply chain and practices. It is gratifying to serve as a Board member and participate firsthand in such an efficiently run organization with the span and influence of Freedom United.
Amazing work the charity does, amazing people and a worldwide issue that definitely needs highlighting. Keep up the good work to ending modern slavery. Happy to continue giving to support this cause
Freedom United has helped me to learn more about the fight against modern slavery. There are many avenues of pursuit to end human trafficking and Freedom United has helped me to better understand this and increased my awareness for choices that I make every day. I am honored to support and give back through in this shared mission.
I had the pleasure to work with the team at Freedom United on a contract basis for many months. I was in awe of the commitment every staff member showed to the cause and ensuring that the conversation around ending modern slavery is both inclusive of those affected and represents them with dignity. As a contractor, I was assured by the ethical best practices that are instilled across the organisation's work and working culture. I will continue to support them and their work wherever possible.
I had the opportunity to work with the wonderful team at Freedom United for a few months. The team is excellent and very hard working. The work they do is also commendable, which is quite evident from all the social media content of this nonprofit. I’m glad I got this opportunity, it really was one of the most professional nonprofits I’ve ever worked it. They are very committed to the cause and have done a great job at spreading awareness - I myself didn’t know much about this cause prior to working with them.
Wish the team great success.
I had the opportunity to work for Freedom United for three years. I started out through a year long leadership program in high school that focused on educating and enabling young people to be activist in their community by raising awareness of modern slavery. A year later in college, I began a 6-week summer internship which led to me formally joining the team for the remainder of my time. The team at Freedom United was incredibly accommodating to my schedule while I was still a full-time college student and provided me space to figure out my niche as a professional. During my tenure, I was able to be apart of many incredible, diverse projects that all were dedicated to truly helping others learn about the reality of modern slavery while giving them tangible ways to take action. Freedom United does an incredibly job at giving anyone whom wants to make a difference all the tools they need to truly make an impact. The organization has built an accessible, caring, and giving community of individuals who want to use their voices to drive real change. It was truly an honor to serve this community and watch it grow throughout my time with the organization. While I decided to step away from my formal role, I will continue to support the work they do as a community member!
I recently started to give to this org via a friend and it is really inspiring. I see bringing awareness to the topic of human trafficking as very critical. They way they keep you up-to-date on campaigns and initiatives is great and to be unexpectedly engaged via the phone and email is also very reassuring and an added bonus. Keep up the good work Freedom United for this extremely worthy cause!
Proud to donate to a cause that frees people. This is my passion, and Freedom United is one of many inspirations to me.
I completed a six month internship with Freedom United from late 2020-early 2021. Throughout my internship, I was made to feel like a valued and important member of the team, which is a testament to the wonderful group of people working at Freedom United. Throughout my internship, I was constantly learning and given opportunities to work on a variety of different things and I feel privileged to have been a small part of some of the excellent campaigns Freedom United have initiated over the last year and work with a team so determined to give a voice to the most vulnerable in society.
I have an amazing pleasure to work with Freedom United. They commitment, impact and will to help still amazes me. Amazing people doing amazing work!
Before I heard about Freedom United I wasn't aware much about modern slavery and its global scale. Now, when I do, I feel grateful knowing there is an organization as Freedom United who strives to build the world without a place for slavery and helps to educate people.
I appreciate this organization not only for their actions but also for the approach to work. Each of the team members I had the opportunity to work with is determined and passionate about what they do and all of them possess wonderful personal qualities.
It was a pleasure working with Freedom United and I'm glad I was a part of this cause. From now onwards will continue contributing as a supporter.
Love the work this charity does. Life is the gift of the Creator and it should never be for sale. Go brave and strong Freedom United. You inspire us.
I have been donating towards this cause since 2017 and I have no regrets. I knew nothing really of human trafficking and modern slavery and was shocked by how widespread it is and the horrors of what it does to people. I found Freedom United and I kept getting more and more drawn to their campaigns and what they are actively doing to stop it. Apart from their informative webinars and blogs the direct contact with me was very warming. Congrats team you convinced me and you can convince others. Please don’t stop.
What can I say. The work that this organisation does is absolutely amazing. We need to shake up society and take a stand on what really matters and I will continue to stay committed towards this cause. Not only have I been well-educated as to what really goes on with modern slavery on a global scale but the tools and resources are equally informative. Well done. Continue the good work Freedom United. :)
I have been working with Freedom for almost a year. I have really enjoyed working with them, I have always felt so supported by Freedom, they have helped my campaign go so far. I did not have experience in this type of thing before, campaigning and I felt very lucky to be working along side Joanna and Miriam on this, they were helping me with comms and also reaching my supporters. I have worked with various nn profit organisations and Freedom truly stands out for me because of the way they work, their values and the support they give.
I had the opportunity to attend their board meeting and meet the rest of the team, it was an incredible experience and I really enjoyed learning more about the team and the way they work.
It's unthinkable that a person could be robbed of his or her freedom purely for another person's profit. Freedom United works to enact lasting policy change to ensure lasting freedom for each human. I'm excited about the work the organization does and humbled to be a small part of the huge momentum Freedom United has created and continues to create to eradicate modern slavery.
What makes Freedom United special for me is two things: (a) it is an an organization that is tackling a massive, worldwide problem that many are not aware about (modern slavery) and (b) it does so by creating tangible policy change to prevent slavery from happening now and in the future.
Freedom United is dedicated to its critical mission and uses creativity, social media and other forms of communication to unpack a complicated, systematic and at times confusing global problem: modern slavery. I support this organization because all forms of slavery represent abhorrent violations of fundamental human rights and the continued existence of modern slavery hurts all of mankind. FU’s focus on awareness—general public and government organizations—is likely the only way we will make real progress.
Too many of us do not have an awareness of modern day slavery and the role it plays in the goods and services we buy and consume. 40M people. As the Covid-19 crisis wears on, those who are most vulnerable are now at further risk. Freedom United is at the forefront of driving awareness for these issues and does an incredible job of helping us all TAKE ACTION. Thank you Joanna Ewart-James and the team at Freedom United
I had an amazing experience working with Freedom United as an Advocacy Intern in the summer of 2020! It was a pleasure to see first-hand all of the work that the Freedom United team puts into each of its campaigns to mobilize a united community against modern slavery. I was particularly impressed with the organization's ability to adapt to the remote work environment, since they were already accustomed to working across different time zones and hosting events with global partners even before the COVID-19 pandemic. I wholeheartedly endorse their work and will continue to take action by signing their petitions and attending their webinars.
I’m a mother of (4) daughters and even being American, the thought that humans are being trafficked all over the world has been a fear of mine. I cannot even imagine what these living souls have gone thru. My heart goes out to them all! I am happy to contribute in any way I can to this highly rated non-profit organization. Sign petitions or donate. Have their voices be heard. I stand behind them (humans) in this fight against this injustice. Please do your part to assist as well...these lives need you too. *hug*
Also, thank you so much Freedom United for everything your team are doing, you're greatly appreciated. *hugs*
I'm grateful for the work Freedom United ist doing! They make it easy for me and others to help end unbearable suffering by signing petitions or donating money. I hope we will hear many successful stories from them. Each of us can contribute to that.
Human trafficking is an issue that is historically difficult to tackle, but Freedom United takes the challenge head-on. Working both within the States and internationally to sponsor legislation built to tackle the causes of trafficking, Freedom United is an amazing organization that actually helps foster change.
While I have only volunteered with Freedom United for a short time, I am inspired by the successes of its campaigning and advocacy work. I am extremely grateful to support this team of dedicated and enthusiastic individuals, working together to mobilize a larger community to end the scourge on society that is modern-day slavery.
The work that Joe and Anna are doing is great to watch. Very inspiring that this is all happening in Raleigh, NC.
Joe's story of Freedom united is both captivating and informative. I did not realize how serious of an issue that modern slavery was and that attention needs to be brought to this issue. Freedom United does an excellent job of bringing this issue to light with real results from their efforts.
Pretty sure this org is a total scam. I got an email from this org with a very dubious text soliciting donations. No info on what they do, what the money is for etc. Very suspicious website and a lot of weird info on the internet about them.
They claim to be the biggest anti slavery org in the world, citing facebook likes, but they don't really seem to exist outside of their own website/social media pages. Really don't think anyone should donate to these probable scammers.
Here's the text of the email I got.
"Every day, children around the world find their dreams crushed by the reality of a life in slavery. If nothing changes, there is little hope for a better future.
Help us create the change they need. Donate today and help build a world where no child is enslaved.
For the next 48 hours, you can double your donation. Thanks to an anonymous donor, your gift will be matched!"

Hi Borisov, I am Joanna, Freedom United's Executive Director. I'm surprised to read you think we might be scammers. I can assure you that we're real - we were nominated for the Thomson Reuters Stop Slavery Campaigns Award this year in recognition of our impact fighting modern slavery around the world - you can read about it here: https://www.trust.org/i/?id=ca8abf3d-3cee-439d-a006-ae6747e19b4a If you'd like more information about us, please don't hesitate to get in touch.
I don't have personal connections with this organisation, but I am very grateful for the work they do. I devote most of my time to environmental work - www.eco.org.nz - but care a lot about human rights as well. This gives me a vehicle to add my voice to this cause of ending modern slavery. I appreciate the report backs on successes (and any failures).
I recommend that you support this organisation.
I never knew about modern slavery until a friend told me about Freedom United. I was surprised to learn about all the different ways people are trafficked and that it happens in the United States. Now that I know, Freedom United keeps me informed with current news and updates on the work they do. I know that my donation is making a difference, because I can see exactly what they're doing around the world to fight slavery. I'm definitely a fan.
We've supported Freedom United financially for several years. The work is essential and is resulting in positive change around the world. The vision of using technology and social media in this work is inspired. Freedom United is a great support to the local organizations, providing a platform and format for people all over the world to band together to effect change. In just a few years, Freedom United has become a media and communications hub for many supporters and freedom fighters to work together on a global basis. It's very cool to go to the website and see people from all over the world taking actions and supporting the work. We've known the US founders for several years, and can vouch for their commitment to the cause and determination to carefully manage and use any financial gifts they receive. They are continuing to innovate ways to educate, communicate, and support the fight against human slavery of all forms. We will continue to financially support Freedom United and encourage others to do the same.
I recently connected with Freedom United after hearing about the organization through some peers. I'm so glad to have found it. I've been working with them for about 6 months now, and it is awesome to see the work that they're doing across the globe to eliminate modern slavery in all forms. It is awesome to see how their efforts are making an impact with every dollar received and with every signature on a petition. They're changing lives one action at a time!
My wife and I are Freedom Founders because we believe in what Freedom United is doing. At any one time, they are working with more than 50 organizations around the world to fight human trafficking and modern slavery. They make an impact with every single dollar we give. We know they are working hard to make a huge difference in the world and it feels great to be a part of that.
I have had the honor of working with this organization for several years. I am so thankful to be a part of this cause - being free is such an important human need for all of us. Keep up the good work.
I have been a Board Member of Freedom United for a number of years now. I was first drawn to the organization because of the team's passion for addressing a complex and very challenging global issue. Over the years, I continue to be impressed by the professionalism and dedication of everyone involved, from volunteers to staff to the entire Freedom United community.
This organization is dedicated, hardworking and able to handle adversity and set-backs. As a Father of two young girls, I feel obligated to try to stop modern slavery. Freedom United is up to the challenge.
Finally a non profit that helps us all DO SOMETHING and not just donate to something! Too often I am pushed to give money that I assume is making good in the world but one I can't really see or comprehend. Freedom United is the first organization that leverages my ACTIONS and not just my money. I was able to make a difference right away and see that impact in the world. Because of Freedom United I've become an activist and not just a donor.
I've known the founder and CEO of this organization for about five years. He is a very talented entrepreneur who can do just about anything he puts his mind to. He could be building a highly successful business and creating a lot of value for himself, but he has chosen to dedicate himself to one of the greatest causes of the 21st century, the eradication of human slavery and trafficking. How can you not get fired up about that? Joe is tackling this problem with passion, skill, determination and integrity. Part of tackling the problem is simply raising awareness and Freedom United is doing a lot to raise awareness that there are more than 35 million people in slavery today. Does anyone think this is acceptable. Apparently some do or would like to simply overlook it. Change does not happen without sustained public pressure to expose the evils of modern trafficking and slavery. Go Freedom United! Now more than ever we need this.
I've had the honor of working with this organization since its inception. What's amazing about Freedom United is the truly collaborative nature of millions of people around the world raising up small non profits to do things unthinkable. It is the definition of the crowd in action.
Freedom United is the real deal. I've had a lot of personal experience working alongside their CEO, Joe Schmidt. Joe and his leader's have a true heart for human trafficking in all it's forms. Moreover, they're excellent, entrepreneurial, ethical, in everything they do. They've built an incredibly powerful organization that harnesses the voices of people all over the world to advocate human rights and abolish slavery.
