This is me and my favorite boy last year about this time during the Photos with Horses event. I’ve been a volunteer at Freedom Hill Horse Rescue for about a year and a half. The time spent with all the horses means so much to me—it’s worth sweating in the summer and freezing in the winter— just knowing that you are making a difference to these horses gives me pleasure beyond words. I have also learned and am continuing to learn how to care for these magnificent animals. The love and care they receive at Freedom Hill is excellent thanks to their leaders, all the volunteers, trainer, and barn managers.

In late October 2016, a dear friend passed away. She had three horses. I took one mare. We hoped to find a rescue for the quarter horse gelding. The third horse was a mare who had been a twin, and was quite crooked up front. I thought we would have to put her down. I didn't think a rescue would take her. Freedom Hill Horse Rescue took her. Her name was Tiny Timmy. She lived the last year and a half of her life turned out with her quarter horse gelding companion Dutiful Sun. Her front legs finally failed, and she was euthanized. I wasn't sure how Dutiful would move forward, but with the help of FHHR and his Horse Angel and many volunteers, he has. I'm not quite sure how old Dutiful is, but he's old. He has been so happy at FHHR. He has a job, a new lease on life, and the care he has received is amazing. He's in such good shape. He has a new girlfriend named Delilah. Delilah threw one heck of an Easter Party last spring. My family attended, including my 10 month old grandson, Benjamin. He got to groom and lead Dutiful, make Easter crafts, fill his Easter basket, learn a lot about horse care, and ride the Belle of the Ball, Delilah. I love FHHR . . . because they love Dutiful Sun and loved Timmy. Before she passed, I promised my friend that her animals would be cared for, for the rest of their lives. FHHR has helped me make good on that promise.

When my son and I decided we wanted to volunteer at a horse rescue , FHHR was highly recommended to us by several people. We've now been a part of an amazing team of horse loving, good-natured volunteers for 2 1/2 years. Each and every horse that is taken in is done so with unconditional care. The leadership team is nothing but awesome!

I had the priviledge of volunteering at FHHR in 2016/2017 while my husband was working temporarily in Southern Maryland. It is an incredible program that takes amazing care of its horses, volunteers and barn cats!

Not a day goes by that I don't miss FHHR and I hope to visit next time I'm in Maryland! The horses and people there left a big mark on my heart and I'm tearing up writing about it. Such a beautiful place with a beautiful mission.

I have been volunteering at Freedom Hill for a little over a year and think they are doing an amazing job taking care of the horses. Some of the horses come to the rescue from bad situations and are nursed back to health along with kind, humane treatment that really helps their healing in body and spirit.

Always wanted a horse since I can remember but living in a city that was just not going to happen. Roll forward 60 some years and I found Freedom Hill helping my granddaughter get her volunteer hours for school when I also became a volunteer at the rescue.
Getting to know and spend time with each horse we rescue is challenging and so rewarding. I love their individual personalities and love seeing them thrive with the help and love of all the volunteers. I never got that horse but freedom hill has brought two very special horses into my life and I can't imagine my life without them.
Thd work is hard hot in the summer freezing in the winter but all worth it when they see you coming and they give you that little Winney that let's you know they are home safe and know they are being cared for.

I spent a lot of time with horses as a child and never thought I'd have the time or money for horses in my life after college. After moving to Maryland from NYC, however, I was very fortunate to find Freedom Hill Horse Rescue. It only took a few weeks of volunteering to realize I wanted to do more to help the organization grow and continue its good work. You can feel confident that your support of FHHR will make an impact on the lives of many horses in the future!

I have been a volunteer for Freedom Hill Horse Rescue for over 8 years and have enjoyed every minute of it! I love being with the horses and learning about them and seeing the children's eyes light up when they come to visit.
