I was diagnosed with endometrial cancer on May 21, 2008. Within a few hours, and still in shock, I was at my computer, searching for information. I found GCF's Women's Cancer Network and began reading. Everything I needed to know was right there, in words I could understand but also with a lot of detail. Many of my questions were answered, and I was able to make a good list of questions to ask my gynecologic oncologist. I returned again and again in the following weeks and months as I prepared for surgery, then radiation, and finally chemotherapy through a clinical trial. On April 4, 2010 I celebrated one year since my last treatment, and a year of of No Cancer. I decided to make a donation to GCF to show my appreciation and to help raise awareness of women's cancers, and I asked the readers of my blog (www.not-plain-jane.com) to participate by leaving a comment on that day's post. For each comment, I promised to increase my donation. I received 104 beautiful responses, and so I made what was, for me, a substantial gift to GCF. There are many organizations and websites that offer excellent help to those with cancer. I'm so grateful that I found one whose focus is women's cancers, because I really needed to know what I was up against, what the options were, and what my cancer was all about. GCF's Women's Cancer Network was a lifesaver for me, and it continues to provide information that guides me through this next phase of my cancer journey.
