I will try to keep things brief ,but that’s going to be a challenge because I have so many great things to say about so many great people at this foundation. Foundation for the homeless and the wonderful staff there came into my life when I was at my worst. So I thought. I had just left a marriage after being a stay at home mom for years with 6 children. I was trying to figure out who I was as a person all over again and it wasn’t easy. But just when I was loosing hope i received that call for housing. Then I was hit with the biggest loss one could ever take. My 14 year old was taken from me due to gun violence. Once again I wanted to give up. I was sad, hurt, a little bitter and most of all angry. I admit at that time I know I was a little difficult to deal with lol but they didn’t give up on me. When I didn’t answer calls they’d find a way to get in touch with me, when I was grieving and sometimes moody or rude, they were patient with me. My group worked with me and helped in any and every way they could. I grew comfortable with them and finally was able to let my guard down. I finally started feeling like if someone else is standing by my side rooting for me to get better then why shouldn’t I fight for my life again. I won’t go on and on. But I’ll just say foundation for the homeless saved me and my children’s lives. I just want to say thank you to everyone for everything I’m forever grateful.#LLK #Forever14 #6/6/23❤️‍

I was living in Austin, Texas me and my son we were homeless. We slept where we could. We ate what we could I lost everything I had from being sick after Covid. I struggled for jobs. My certification for nursing assistant was expired so I had to find any kind of job I could, which was totally hard at my age being over 55 the door is not as open as it should be and most of the time a lot of people didn’t wanna hire you because you barely could shower. Didn’t really have any clothes and couldn’t leave my son out by himself I was contacted by the foundation for the homeless from getting on a list down at Sunrise Church for the Homeless and I was on a waitlist but when foundation called me, they immediately helped me. They gave me an appointment for a few days later and which I made it there we sat around we discussed a plan for me , but when you go through that in your mind, is this gonna work is this not gonna work for me and my son? I didn’t really have high hopes. I felt like my life was at the end of the rope. They gave me a list of things to say and do and where to apply for housing, but I had Rental debt from my last apartment. I finished the lease, but I still owe them money. I was homeless and I had many obstacles that stopped me from getting a place on my own, and within no time at all, me and my son had a place to live, apartment of our own not a shelter. I was able to apply for public assistance and get stamps because I had an address. They helped me with the information I needed to get my certification back now I am legally back a certified nurse assistant With their help they pay my bills where I can go and obtain employment on my own without stress about where I was gonna sleep and what I was gonna do next. They helped me through other contacts they have with furnishing my whole apartment and obtaining clothes. They removed all my obstacles, we did it together and they showed me how to get back on track if it wasn’t for them I don’t know where I would be mentally I was not in a good place but today I can say if it wasn’t for the Foundation for the homeless I don’t know where me and my son would be today they are a real Good program and I will always appreciate what they done for me so this is a very good Organization. Today I’m working full-time. I have a roof over my head that I can call my own food on my table and My son was able to graduate from high school a little early because he actually had a place to sleep and Something to eat he had friends again. He was able to be a kid because I did everything The foundation for the homeless told me to do and I was able to get back on track and get back my LIFE! Thank you so much.

Great volunteer experiences at the Feed My People breakfast and great stewardship of donated funds to help families facing homelessness to remain together as they are rapidly re-housed and work to achieve stability.

As a board member I believe Foundation for the Homeless does a tremendous amount of good in the Austin community. I believe that it is very important that we serve those at risk of becoming Homeless and establish them in their own safe home environment and help those who are chronically homeless. The foundation ministers to the chronically homeless in a non-judgmental and loving way. I am proud to be involved with this organization.

I have been involved with the Foundation for the Homeless for over 10 years. The Foundation has served thousands of breakfasts to unhoused people with the Feed My People breakfast. They serve every Tuesday and Thursday morning. They don’t require proof of being unhoused so lots of working poor can get a nutritious breakfast to help with their food insecurity. In addition, the Foundation for the Homeless has a family stability program that helps families with children who are homeless or in danger of losing their housing by rapid rehousing and other interventions. They truly make a difference in this community. The photo below shows a group of volunteers who are getting ready to serve the breakfast.

I have had the honor of volunteering with the Foundation for the Homeless for a number of years now and it has been an amazing experience. The staff members are wonderful and kind people who have dedicated their lives to changing other peoples lives. I have seen a lot of success stories with their clients going on to live impactful and stable lives. I have also been able to go to the feed my people events and it is amazing to see the 100s of people that are fed on a weekly basis.
