As a frequent performer with the Foundation, I am always impressed with the quality and originality of the programming, and truly enjoy the opportunity to collaborate with such a diverse and respected group of artists from across musical genres. I have witnessed some transcendent moments between performers and audience, moments that are an inspiration to all involved. This is a vital part of Houston's arts community, and one that deserves attention and support.
This is a group of citizens who care about what they are doing - presenting new music in new surroundings to new constituencies. Some of them have expertise in the arts, others are intelligent and gracious supporters of the arts. What they all have in common is the goal of promoting new art music through attractive and professional performances. Their interest in reaching out to many, and often neglected, segments of our community allows the occasional charge of lack-of-focus, or a problematic slip in consistency, but they are out there on the front lines trying their best and giving it their all, and that is far more than I can say for the more "successful" groups who limit their attention to the rich, white, art-as-fashion crowd. A Foundation For Modern Music event can be many things, but it is rarely predictable or boring.
I have recently had the pleasure of working with Raul and Paul on a project that they are producing entitled WHO AM I.....starring Anthony Turner, it is based on the book I edited entitled THE GATHERING.
Upon leaving our last 'planning/touch base' meeting, I felt cared-for, understood, and appreciated. .A .rare moment for an artist, I was so moved and grateful to working on a project that they were at the helm of!!!!
WHAT A BLESSING!!! I am thankful!!!

I attended the Navidad Latina program on December 20, 2012 at the MFA and was simply blown away by the artistry of the performers. The dancers, the singers, the audience interaction were such that many of us got and dance on stage. Being from South America it was refreshing to see this type of programs that shows with authenticity the culture of the differnt regions. I was yet to see a Latin Holiday celebration like this one and will be back next year!
Bravo
