Mission: The mission of fort bend lawyers care is to provide low-income fort bend county residents with equal access to justice through volunteer lawyers.
Programs: Pro bono program - volunteer lawyers represented and closed pro bono cases involving a variety of civil legal issues. Volunteer lawyers assisted low-income families, veterans and/or their spouses, the disabled and the mentally incapacitated residents of fort bend county. Several of the family law cases involved complex matters, for example: domestic violence and custody/visitation issues involving children of the client obtaining a divorce, custody and possession orders.
walk-in legal aid clinics - walk-in legal aid clinics are held every other month for 4 hours. All civil legal needs are assessed by either volunteer lawyers or the staff attorney. The clients are educated in regards to their legal need(s) and then advised of their civil legal rights pertinent to the legal matter. They are provided and assisted pro se (represent yourself) documents, if that is what they choose. In the case that they do choose to be a pro se litigant, fblc encourages the clients to participate in future clinics or to utilize other fblc programs for further assistance until the issue is finalized. Fblc's veterans legal aid assistance program is also implemented into the walk-in legal aid clinic.
family law workshop - family law workshop is solely to assit with family law legal issues. Family law is approximately 90% of the services that fblc renders.
