This is an outstanding ministry that serves approximately 1200 inmates at the Forsyth County Jail, Youth Detention Center and the Forsyth Correctional Center (Cherry St. Prison) as well as the officers who serve at these facilities. The ministry provides chaplaincy services 24-7 and coordinates over 800 volunteers who provide Bible studies, tutoring, re-entry training and family support services. It is supported by a broad base of individuals, churches and businesses throughout Forsyth County, and has won non-profit excellence awards from BCBSNC and the Joel Weston Foundation. I began volunteering at Cherry St. about 10 years ago, helping inmates with their GED studies. I also serve as a sponsor, taking qualified inmates out on short passes to church and to reentry preparation meetings. At the Jail, I have provided music leadership for Sunday church services. I have seen hearts and lives changed with a positive impact on families and the community. As the TV ad says, the return on investment is "priceless"!
