Life saver; just two small words but when combined they pack a powerful punch. Life saver is the best way to describe Andrea of Forever Fiesty Chinchilla Rescue, Inc.
If circumstances arise that force you to re-home your chinchilla, I highly recommend you contact her.
During the summer, my tenant brought home a chinchilla. He chose the pet without fully knowing the extent of care it required. It became apparent that with a new baby and many hours of work, having a pet was not condusive to his lifestyle. He wanted to re-home the chinchilla with someone who was familiar with these animals.
Living in NYC provides several options for animal rescue. Some organizations will take exotic animals. As an avid animal lover (and cat owner), I wanted to make sure this little guy was in the best temporary home.
A Google search led me to Forever Fiesty Chinchillas. Andrea an called me promptly after I sent her an email. In our hour long conversation, she gave me a crash course on chinchillas.
Her love, concern, and devotion for these animals was evident. I knew she was the right person to entrust the beloved pet. Also, the fact that she has over 20 years experience in caring for chinchillas, led me to believe we made the right decision.
When I met Andrea in Connecticut, I recognized a kindred animal-loving spirit in her. I felt the chinchilla
would have the best foster home with her until Andrea found him a loving family. She feeds the chinchillas a higher quality food than pet stores supply.
I have received updates that he is acclimating well to his new environment. Andrea will get to know his personality and behavior traits before he is adopted. Each adopter is screened and not allowed to take a chinchilla until Andrea is sure the match is beneficial for both the animal and the new owner.
Without hesitation, I can sincerely say, my experience with Andrea of Forever Fiesty Chinchilla Rescue, Inc., has been a 10 out of 10!
When my Chinchilla, Quigley was not eating I brought him to the vet, he had issues with his feet and his teeth. Thereafter, I started contacting Andrea at Forever Feisty Chinchilla for her expertise advice. She was there to answer any of my email questions and provided me recommendations that were very helpful. She would answer me right away via email. After my chins foot surgery he started falling off his ramps, Andrea made him some ramp covers so the ramps wouldn’t hurt his feet, she also sent a chinchilla mix for him to try since he wasn’t eating anything except when we force fed him. Andrea is a Godsend! she is a very caring and knowledgeable person about Chinchillas and their care. We need to get the word out to others that this rescue organization is there for anyone who needs advice and help with their chins. They will not find a better place or person than Andrea and Forever Feisty Chinchilla.
Many blessing Andrea
This year I was able to take a few days off and was able to volunteer at Forever Feisty Chinchilla Rescue. What an eye opening experience, Andrea is compassionate, knowledgeable and unstoppable when it comes to her rescue. The care of the chinchillas is always the main focus of her day and as I learned at times most of the night. Between feeding, filling water bottles, distributing hay, medicating chinchillas, vet appointments, cleaning cages, answering emails, giving phone advise, making toys, filling orders and delivering boxes to the Post Office it is a very full day.
The rescue itself is amazing, as you enter and every chinchilla comes to the front or side of their cage wanting to be talked to and acknowledged, it becomes quite apparent how much time Andrea spends interacting with them. There is a play area in the rescue that is well utilized, on a rotational basis a number of chinchillas are let out to play and Andrea is on the floor with them to help encourage their friendliness.
It just so happened that while I was there Andrea was called to rescue 4 kits who were only days old when their mother died unexpectedly. As soon as arrangements could be made she was on her way that afternoon to pick up the kits. The kits needed to be bottle feed every 2 or 2 1/2 hours around the clock, this can be a daunting task when you have 4 wiggling kits, even 6 hands are not enough. The lack of sleep and extra attention the kits require adds to the already hectic schedule of running the rescue. But nothing can take away the pure joy and exhilaration on Andrea's face knowing that she has saved these kits.
I am in complete awe of Andrea and the accomplishments of her rescue.

I purchased treats, a playtime tunnel, a healthcare product, and a Soft “chin buddy” for our new chinchilla. Her products were top quality, shipped very quickly, and she included extra gifts and information about chinchillas. Everything was carefully packaged and beautifully presented, showing care and time. For a business, this is excellent, for a small non-profit animal rescue, time is so precious, and this extra care shows how dedicated she is to helping these beautiful, gentle animals. I have returned for more! Thank you!
They were EXTREMELY helpful when I emailed them asking about my chinchilla who was recently diagnosed with glaucoma. The woman I spoke with, Andrea, did not have to go through the lengths that she did and answer me as many times as she did but she did and it deserves to be recognized. Their website is by far one of the most informative sights that I have ever found for chinchillas. They have everything from food, bedding, health, etc. for your chinchilla and it's a great resource for those who are new chinchilla owners or are considering getting a chinchilla.
Additionally, if you use amazon prime/ amazon smile you can have a portion of all of your amazon orders go to Forever Feisty Chinchilla Rescue Inc. It costs you nothing and every little bit counts for nonprofits :)
Everything produced and made by this charity is with love and other people's chinchillas in mind. The website also provides useful information that helps with looking after chinchillas which to be honest is my bible and go to if I have any questions that need answering!
Always quick to respond to emails and does a great job looking after the animals in care and encouraging and teaching people how to better look after animals :)
Amazing charity, offers support and advice to chinchilla owners, as well as selling lovingly made items that are safe and good for chinchillas. They do amazing work to help chinchillas who have been surrendered and need a loving home.
I will always support this charity.
This was a fantastic experience. Everything arrived quickly, and is amazing quality! My chinchillas and I are very happy! I will absolutely shop again and I’ll definitely be recommending the shop to anyone with chins!
Recently I found myself in a position where I was an owner of eight chinchillas, a number that for some unknown reason kept growing. These unique animals would outlive me. The question haunted me. Should I keep this growing herd that when I finally leave his world will probably be too ol to find good homes or should I let go now because my animals are young and take to a new home with ease? After speaking with Andrea my mind was pout to rest Her organization has no borders. For sixteen years she has passionately helped our little friends. Trust is key when letting go of animals you truly care about. Andrea's dedication through heart-given commitment to help the chinchilla population is unequalled. Here non-profit organization is a truly tested safe haven for the '' chinchilla kangaroos" that have taken up a special place in my heart. If you know of anyone with a chinchilla in trouble contact Andrea. Truly a candle in the window.
Sincerely, Donald Hodgins
Working with Andrea and Forever Feisty Chinchilla Rescue has been a truly gratifying experience. As a longtime chinchilla owner, I've spent years educating myself and others on how to take care of chinchillas. With recent life changes, I found myself in the unhappy position of having to rehome my two mosaic chinchillas - a heartbreaking experience. I spent months researching potential new owners and homes, to no avail. There wasn't a perfect fit, so I kept parenting the two chins until the day that I found Forever Feisty Chinchilla Rescue. I learned of the rescue after a random search on Facebook, and began doing research immediately. Locally based in the tri-state area, the photos and description of Andrea's sanctuary and rescue was above and beyond my expectations for any home - let alone rescue - that I could find. I dove deep into her website and found that my conclusions about chinchilla care and well-being (after many years of chinchilla experience and research) matched up perfectly. Andrea is well-educated when it comes to these animals, and beyond caring. She drove over three hours to meet me part-way and had a carrier full of apple sticks and timothy hay to greet the ladies. I could tell she was a real natural with these animals. We chatted for 15 minutes on the phone before the meeting, and continued chatting when we met in person. I needed to make sure she was the right person for these precious fluffballs, and that her facilities were the right home - no small feat. She assured me of a single Ferret Nation unit for the duo and a healthy diet of pellets and hay as long as they are in her care. Her adoption applications are also no joke. She is discerning, caring, and particular about these pets - and I cannot be more thankful that she is doing what she is doing with this non-profit, both for caring owners like myself, and neglected or sick chinchillas that are fortunate enough to find their way to her. I encourage all chinchilla lovers to donate to Forever Feisty Chinchilla Rescue, because Andrea is running a sanctuary that puts chinchillas first when their initial owners are no longer able to. I am forever grateful to Andrea and her non-profit for making the process as heartfelt, efficient, safe, and practical as possible. If only there were more chinchilla champions like her in this world!
Andrea helped me with my chinchilla when he developed a gi upset that almost claimed his life TWICE!
Thanks to her help, my chinchilla is recovering and I am able to treat him through safer, more natural methods.
Andrea is an incredibly helpful, knowledgable and a caring person. I am so glad I got to know her, and I plan on continuing my relationship with her for years to come! I encourage any chin parent or person considering to become a chin parent to seek out her resources and learn from her about these amazing babies.
P.S. The toys and materials from the rescue are great! My chinchilla and guinea pig give it two paws up!
Andrea is an extremely caring and amazing woman for spending all of her time caring for these small and adorable creatures! I was having a hard time financially taking care of my sick chinchilla, and because of Andrea and her Rescue, I was able to rest assured that my chinchilla was in good hands with people who can take care of him.
Andrea is an amazing person. She has dedicated her life to rescuing, loving and caring for, and rehoming chinchillas. In our 15 years having these wonderful beings in our life, we discovered how incredibly smart and loving they are. Our chinchillas (5 over the years) were every bit as smart as our dogs, and each one with a very different and distinct personality. Andrea dedicates her time to not only helping these wonderful beings but also helping the people who sometimes find themselves in situations where they need to rehome their chins, due to varying circumstances, and Andrea comes to the rescue of both the chins and the people! She is loving, sensitive, compassionate, and kind in her approach. She also spends a lot of time and energy researching the best items for chinchillas and shares her knowledge openly with anyone needing assistance. In addition to caring for a number of the chinchillas in her rescue, she also helps pair people with the right chinchilla for them from her rescue and helps educate them on their new chin friend. We recommend if you are considering getting a chinchilla, start by checking out forever feisty chinchillas before heading to your local pet store. You will be so happy you did! And check out her store of great chinchilla items! Thank you again, Andrea, for the time, energy, and love you put into giving our chins and many, many others a great home! And thank you for shining your light brightly. Forever grateful. jen and dave
When one of my chins started to have health issues I started doing research online and came across Forever Feisty Chinchilla rescue. Its a great website that has a lot of helpful information. One weekend I noticed my chin wasn't eating and seemed not his normal self. Of course it being a weekend I had nowhere to take him. I was pretty stressed and had no clue what to do. I had remembered the Forever Feisty Chin website and decided that I would email them, I was kinda skeptical that they would respond back but then shortly after I sent the email I got a message from Andrea! She was very nice and had a lot of helpful advice. From that point on over the years I would contact Andrea with any questions or concerns I had about my chins. She would always respond back and always give you her honest advice/opinion along with a ton of helpful information. Andrea has a lot of knowledge and experience with chins and I highly value her opinion. Words can't describe how much I appreciate Andrea, her Chin rescue and all that she does and has done for me and my chins over the years! She is amazing at what she does!! I will always go to Andrea for any chin advice :) If you are a chin owner you need to check out her Forever Feisty Chinchilla Rescue website! it is a great resource for information!
I ordered a wooden bridge for my chinchilla's cage from Forever Feisty Chinchilla Rescue. It arrived yesterday and it is AMAZING! The quality of the product is top-notch. It is put together so well, and I know that it is safe for him, which is a such a comfort. My communication with Andrea was seamless, and she even sent a few surprises in the box! :) Her prices are extremely reasonable, which only encourages me to order more, especially knowing that she is helping rescue chinchillas. This is actually our second order from her. We ordered a ChinBuddy a few months ago--it is the cutest thing and Launch loves it! God Bless you, Andrea--thank you for your rescue work!
Words alone cannot express the amount of gratitude I have for Andrea and her rescue organization. I was the mom of 4 wonderful chinchillas but I was living in an abusive relationship. The most important thing to me was to get my furry babies out of the home before something happened to them. While I was able to do that my living situation did not allow for me to keep them. I searched for a chinchilla rescue league and was happy to find Andrea. I was worried that she would not be able to take all 4 but she didn't even hesitate. The day Andrea came to get the boys she was patient and understanding of my situation. Her knowledge and caring made what was an extremely difficult decision for me a little easier to bear. Knowing that my fur babies were going to be cared for by someone who would love them as much as I do and has the amount of knowledge and understanding of these amazing creatures was an absolute blessing to me. Even after the boys were surrendered Andrea has continued to answer whenever I have asked how they are doing. Thank you Andrea for your compassion and understanding.
I recently found this nonprofit online after adopting my chin Stewie.
Andrea and her nonprofit have been wonderful resources for this first time chin mom.
I had no idea how big the need was for chin rescue, and for small animal rescue in general.
Love this rescue !! I rescued a chinchilla that was found by my son in Brooklyn NY. He was found outside an apartment door in a small birdcage along with two parakeets !! My son took the chin and his friend took the birds. My son's cat wasn't so fond of the chin .. so we took him. Having not much knowledge of this little guy .. we named him "Binkle", he began drooling and was losing weight. He appeared to be eating, but he was actually "trying" to eat. We took him to the vet to learn that his teeth were overgrown and he had a cut in the inside of his cheek. Teeth were "filed" down twice. In the meantime I learned of this chin rescue. Spoke to Andrea. She's an absolute delight to talk to, and can tell you everything and anything there is to know about chinchillas !! She has a great diet mix that has shown a huge improvement in my chinchilla's health and activity. His choppers are working just fine. He goes for another checkup in October. To all chinchilla keepers and lovers .. please support this foundation and spread the word that it exists !! Can't thank Andrea enough for all of her help and for the much needed education about my little guy "Binkle" !! XOX
I’m from Italy and five month I rescued a female chinchilla from a pet shop. I was surfing the web searching for info about this exotic animal.
I’ve found Andrea’s web page.
The site is full of precious advices and she is doing a great job helping these little furry rodents that are surrendered or abused :)
In the attached photo Peggy ( the rescued chin) thanks Andrea too!
I have had chins in the past, but it had been many years gone by. Mid last year I got the bug for a chin again but knowing the amount of care and hearing my husband say do we really have the time I ignored my want. One day my son asked if we could go by a local pet store(I hate pet stores) but this one had an area for older rescue cats and he was considering one. I got on my phone to look up the cat and oddly a chinchilla photo showed up. Then it was off to the store to see the kitty, no kitty was to be had that day, but my son of 30 came running to me from the other side of the store and said come see what they have. What they had was a tiny lone chin, no more than 3 months old just laying there with no toys, no where to climb, nothing and by the way no information on the breeder either. I went home and I was so sad that I dragged my husband back to the store, I scooped her up and he filled the cart with her beginning needs. Now 6 months and $1500.00 dollars later (still going) Willow is healthy and happy, she is a typical crazy chin who runs like a lunatic. She never bites and we are learning to do selfies. Forever feisty has helped me with information, toys, bedding and hopefully a boost to becoming a really good chinchilla parent. I am so glad they do what they do, I hope I never need advice and my chin stays healthy, but it is nice to know they are there. Her home is a work in progress but her bridge and chin buddy make her very happy. Thank you Forever Feisty (I do not think people understand the time and money it takes to be a Good Chin owner)
We were interested in adopting chinchillas and spent three months researching care and rescues. I have worked in the non-profit field for 25yrs+ so I always want to be sure I am dealing with a reputable, well-run organization. Forever Feisty Chinchilla Rescue was the only one we contacted because of all the rescues we looked at they were the most impressive by far!
We were confident that FFCR would match us with a pair of chins that was right for us and would provide excellent advice and follow-up if we needed anything. They have done both. We've had an adorable pair of brothers living with us for a month now. We are confident we are providing appropriate care because Andrea at FFCR did a fabulous job screening to make sure we were the right fit. She gave us excellent care information, made a home visit to bring us our chin boys, and has an amazingly comprehensive website to use as a resource. Our vet was thoroughly impressed by FFCR and the level of information they were able to offer.
If you are interested in donating, please do, I am confident that your donation will be both appreciated and put to good use. If you are interested in rescuing a chinchilla, I don't think there's a better place in New England to contact.
