Words alone cannot express the amount of gratitude I have for Andrea and her rescue organization. I was the mom of 4 wonderful chinchillas but I was living in an abusive relationship. The most important thing to me was to get my furry babies out of the home before something happened to them. While I was able to do that my living situation did not allow for me to keep them. I searched for a chinchilla rescue league and was happy to find Andrea. I was worried that she would not be able to take all 4 but she didn't even hesitate. The day Andrea came to get the boys she was patient and understanding of my situation. Her knowledge and caring made what was an extremely difficult decision for me a little easier to bear. Knowing that my fur babies were going to be cared for by someone who would love them as much as I do and has the amount of knowledge and understanding of these amazing creatures was an absolute blessing to me. Even after the boys were surrendered Andrea has continued to answer whenever I have asked how they are doing. Thank you Andrea for your compassion and understanding.
I recently found this nonprofit online after adopting my chin Stewie.
Andrea and her nonprofit have been wonderful resources for this first time chin mom.
I had no idea how big the need was for chin rescue, and for small animal rescue in general.
Love this rescue !! I rescued a chinchilla that was found by my son in Brooklyn NY. He was found outside an apartment door in a small birdcage along with two parakeets !! My son took the chin and his friend took the birds. My son's cat wasn't so fond of the chin .. so we took him. Having not much knowledge of this little guy .. we named him "Binkle", he began drooling and was losing weight. He appeared to be eating, but he was actually "trying" to eat. We took him to the vet to learn that his teeth were overgrown and he had a cut in the inside of his cheek. Teeth were "filed" down twice. In the meantime I learned of this chin rescue. Spoke to Andrea. She's an absolute delight to talk to, and can tell you everything and anything there is to know about chinchillas !! She has a great diet mix that has shown a huge improvement in my chinchilla's health and activity. His choppers are working just fine. He goes for another checkup in October. To all chinchilla keepers and lovers .. please support this foundation and spread the word that it exists !! Can't thank Andrea enough for all of her help and for the much needed education about my little guy "Binkle" !! XOX
I’m from Italy and five month I rescued a female chinchilla from a pet shop. I was surfing the web searching for info about this exotic animal.
I’ve found Andrea’s web page.
The site is full of precious advices and she is doing a great job helping these little furry rodents that are surrendered or abused :)
In the attached photo Peggy ( the rescued chin) thanks Andrea too!
I have had chins in the past, but it had been many years gone by. Mid last year I got the bug for a chin again but knowing the amount of care and hearing my husband say do we really have the time I ignored my want. One day my son asked if we could go by a local pet store(I hate pet stores) but this one had an area for older rescue cats and he was considering one. I got on my phone to look up the cat and oddly a chinchilla photo showed up. Then it was off to the store to see the kitty, no kitty was to be had that day, but my son of 30 came running to me from the other side of the store and said come see what they have. What they had was a tiny lone chin, no more than 3 months old just laying there with no toys, no where to climb, nothing and by the way no information on the breeder either. I went home and I was so sad that I dragged my husband back to the store, I scooped her up and he filled the cart with her beginning needs. Now 6 months and $1500.00 dollars later (still going) Willow is healthy and happy, she is a typical crazy chin who runs like a lunatic. She never bites and we are learning to do selfies. Forever feisty has helped me with information, toys, bedding and hopefully a boost to becoming a really good chinchilla parent. I am so glad they do what they do, I hope I never need advice and my chin stays healthy, but it is nice to know they are there. Her home is a work in progress but her bridge and chin buddy make her very happy. Thank you Forever Feisty (I do not think people understand the time and money it takes to be a Good Chin owner)
Amazing charity, offers support and advice to chinchilla owners, as well as selling lovingly made items that are safe and good for chinchillas. They do amazing work to help chinchillas who have been surrendered and need a loving home.
I will always support this charity.
I first found Forever Feisty Chinchilla Rescue Inc's page in 2015 and have been a regular customer ever since.
I am a chin parent and live in the United Kingdom. As there is not a lot of chinchilla-friendly items over here this webpage has been perfect for our little chin. Most of the wood, toys and treats in shops near us are made from unsafe wood or materials for chinchilla's. Even amazon did not have what we were looking for.
Everything we have ever ordered from this organisation has been made lovingly and our little chinchilla has loved it.
The information this Rescue provides is invaluable. If ever I have had a problem or query about how to raise our chinchilla - I have come straight to this organisation that provides useful information about food, emotional and physical health and general knowledge about chinchillas.
Thank you, I really cannot rate Forever Feisty Chinchilla Rescue Inc enough!
We were interested in adopting chinchillas and spent three months researching care and rescues. I have worked in the non-profit field for 25yrs+ so I always want to be sure I am dealing with a reputable, well-run organization. Forever Feisty Chinchilla Rescue was the only one we contacted because of all the rescues we looked at they were the most impressive by far!
We were confident that FFCR would match us with a pair of chins that was right for us and would provide excellent advice and follow-up if we needed anything. They have done both. We've had an adorable pair of brothers living with us for a month now. We are confident we are providing appropriate care because Andrea at FFCR did a fabulous job screening to make sure we were the right fit. She gave us excellent care information, made a home visit to bring us our chin boys, and has an amazingly comprehensive website to use as a resource. Our vet was thoroughly impressed by FFCR and the level of information they were able to offer.
If you are interested in donating, please do, I am confident that your donation will be both appreciated and put to good use. If you are interested in rescuing a chinchilla, I don't think there's a better place in New England to contact.
I had to make the decision to part with my 4 chinchilla children due to circumstances beyond my control. Andrea of Forever Feisty was extremely compassionate and sympathetic when she came to pick them up (I was bawling) and took the time to talk to me and make me feel better. I asked about them some time later as to how they were adjusting, and she took the time to answer my email. Parting with them hurt a lot, and still hurts, but I know they are in wonderful hands and can rest easy!
Andrea came to our rescue. Our young male chinchilla was given to us by a family who urgently had to find a home for him. He showed up in a bunny cage with a broken exercise wheel. I did my best and gave him a tall cage and a metal wheel, but our young kids made him nervous and he became reclusive. He started biting off his hair and staying hid in a dark corner. It was very sad. When Andrea showed up, after driving 3 hours to get to us, she was a bright light filled with compassion and understanding. Like Mary Poppins, I knew she would fix all things wrong, and find him a perfect home; one that I could not provide. As she was driving away with the chinchilla (and no longer belonging to us), I knew he was going to an enjoyable sanctuary with a great woman who would understand him and keep him clean and healthy. Though I missed him, it was a giant relief, and my sadness was short-lived because Andrea and her rescue was so professional, experienced, and nurturing.
It started with my purchasing some items from this website.
Then I had to neuter two of my boys. Things went south from there. I felt that something was not right with both chins. Two and a half week after the first chin got neutered (they were neutered a week apart), in desperation, I contacted Forever Feisty Chinchilla Rescue to seek opinions based on their experience. I was not really expecting an answer, but to my surprise, I received a prompt response from Andrea. Andrea. is an angel. She was a tremendous help, willing to help in anyway she can.
It turned out that the boys had infections on the surgery sites (the infection had been going on for over a month and by this point they were so swollen - they are the size of a big marble). Because the Vet took too long address the infections (I went to the vet 2x a week for a over a month and then some, but they kept brushing me off) that the chins had to go back in and had the incisions re-opened to let the pus and blood drain.
Andrea was my mental support throughout this ordeal. She was there every step of the way, up until the day the boys got well.
Taking care of the rescue chinchillas and helping other chinchilla owners...How in the world this angel does it all?
I can't thank Andrea enough for all that she had done for me and my boys. God bless her...She is just such a lovely, wonderful person.
P.S the Calendula cream from her store is awesome. I have been using it on the chins and myself. It's easily absorbed and didn't feel greasy at all.
Andrea was just a wealth of information for me when my Chinchilla Mickey had tooth abscess and teeth issues . She was in constant contact with me and guided me until Mickey was better.
Andrea is the most kind selfless person that I came to know who's love and great knowledge of these animals shines though. I donated to her wonderful cause as she helps so many animals and families with her care and time I hope that you will donate as well so that she can continue to provide her care and knowledge to this outstanding rescue.
Thanks Andrea your the greatest! God Bless!
Andrea is a very caring loving earth angel to these sweet little creatures of God. Her passion and love for the wellbeing of her fur babies is palpable. If human beings could love each other the way that Andrea loves these little animals life would be a breeze. Keep up the good work Miss Andrea!
Where do I begin....Andrea is one of the most selfless people I have ever met in my life. Her big heart and love for these chinchillas radiates. Had we not come across Forever Feisty Chinchilla Rescue, we would not have had our little chin, Daisy, for as long as we did. Andrea was in constant communication with us until she knew Daisy was doing better. She helped us nurse our little one back to health with the aid of a local exotic animal vet Andrea helped us find. Our family wanted to meet the beautiful soul that helped us for years and not only to donate to her rescue, but to give her our time as she did for us and many others. This year we had the opportunity of meeting Andrea and her over 100 chinchillas she solely cares for on a daily basis. She has dedicated her life to these animals and has created a personal bond with each and every chinchilla she has at her rescue. Andrea is clean, organized and full of love. Many of the chinchillas here require extra care and many vet visits to ensure optimal health. Chinchillas require a lot of love, attention and care. Seeing how Andrea interacts with each one, truly melts my heart and brings the biggest smile to my face. If you can donate to her, please do. Andrea and dedicated her life and time to these beautiful animals in addition to helping chin owners world wide. You don't come across people like her every day.
Andrea, thank you for all you have done for our family. Your time, love and friendship are cherished and mean so much. Love to you!
As a pet owner we have all been there, is this normal and am I doing the right thing. As exotic pet owners these questions are not always answered quickly and easily by a simple call to our local veterinarian.
It was during one of these moments that I reached out to Forever Feisty Chinchilla Rescue for help. The rescue website had already become a valuable resource to me, I had visited previously for chinchilla specific information and had purchased the "Organic Herb & Grain Fusion" which Andrea developed herself. I was pleasantly surprised by prompt return contact, Andrea was extremely helpful and eager to share her vast knowledge and experience with me. Not only did she support me that night, she also made repeat contact to confirm a positive outcome.
Through this experience Andrea and I discovered a shared love of animals and a common concern for their well being. I have been in the unique position to speak with Andrea after numerous difficult rescues. Her focus is always on the animals welfare and that of the unfortunate owners who find themselves in a difficult situation. Although these circumstances can be exhausting, both fiscally and mentally, Andrea never wavers in her commitment to provide the desperately needed help for these chinchillas.
It is Andrea's selflessness and complete devotion to the rescue and the chinchillas in her care that make both her and Forever Feisty Chinchilla Rescue a rare gem in the crown of animal rescue and well fare.
I first ran across the website for Forever Feisty Chinchilla rescue when I was doing research on bladder stones in chins. Two of my fur kids had developed the condition quickly and within weeks of one another, and I was desperate to learn more and reach out to others who had experienced something similar. It is very difficult to find rescues and groups dedicated to just chinchillas, and even tougher to find someone who is well-versed in the care and health of these animals. I emailed Andrea, who heads this group, and we threw thoughts back and forth for several days. She was very through in asking questions and really seemed to care about the kids :) The website for the rescue is easy to navigate, has a TON of information and even a cool store. And after sending out my initial email, Andrea responded back in less than a day.
One of the things that was neat to see was a video interview of the rescue (featured on many chinchilla facebook sites). I had no idea this group was also a sanctuary to a whole bunch of chins-which is amazing- or how many people reach out to them each year. If anyone is looking for reliable chinchilla information, or if they are looking for help, I would definitely recommend Forever Feisty Chinchilla Rescue!
I have a one and a half year old chinchilla named Nugget and she hasn't had the easiest life recently. About two months ago she got her leg stuck in a hay holder I bought for her cage to help with her pickiness. Though she didn't break her leg in the accident, she did have nerve damage which led to her need a amputation to one of her back legs.
Andrea at the Forever Feisty Chinchilla has been nothing but a blessing to me; I'm not sure if I could say Nugget would still be alive without her encouraging and helpful responses to all of my panic emails I've written to her about Nugget and her health. From issues on getting Nugget back on track with eating as well as advice on what to do when she's had minor and extreme problems.
As well as the endless amounts of information about chinchillas and their diets and health available at the tips of anyone's fingers, the Forever Feisty Chinchilla Rescue's website is a haven for healthy snacks and safe toys I know Nugget would enjoy and have no fear in purchasing for her.
Nugget is still working her way back to her normal self and I still believe I'll be contacting Andrea and referring to her website in the future. Her nonprofit is not only helpful for us for already have chinchillas, but would be the perfect website to refer to when people are making the decision on whether or not a Chinchilla is the right pet for them!
When I first contacted Andrea I was at a loss. My Chili was so sick. He kept getting gut upsets even with a bland diet of oxbow pellets and hay. He was constipated and on pharmaceutical medications. Nothing was working. It was all I could do to get him to eat. At a loss I started to google chinchilla rescues, because I thought they would have to have some idea on how to help my baby. I know they get chins in all sorts of conditions and my exotic vet was clueless. I emailed Andrea and within 30 minutes she said can I call you. She spoke with me for an hour and I gave her my story and what was going on with my Chili. She told me to stop the Reglan and I started the winter squash regimen. It took over another week before he was no longer constipated. Andrea stayed in constant contact with me and checked up on his progress and even called me again in the middle of the night to help reassure me that he was okay and to give it time. My chili is doing amazing. I appreciate all of her care and concern she has for our chinnies. Andrea's website is by far the best one I have found when it comes to care and giving accurate information about chinchillas. We will continue to stay in contact with her and I will donate to her as often as I can.
Forever Feisty Chinchilla Rescue is a first-class nonprofit! I'm very grateful for the deep love, respect, and care that they provide to the chinchillas.
The Founder, Andrea, is incredibly passionate about her work! She is a renowned chinchilla expert and treats the animals like absolute royalty! Not only does each chinchilla have a personal name and birthday, but also each has a personal record of behavioral nuances to ensure proper care.
5-stars for FFCR due to the 24/7 love these animals receive, the spotless/carefully organized facility, and the 110% dedication from the Founder!
I am from Bulgaria, which is around 6,000 miles away and is 7 hours ahead from Connecticut. Wherever you are located, Forever Feisty Chinchilla Rescue center will be of incredible help for your sick or just not feeling well chin. Thankfully to Andrea's help my chin, Snow, was saved from undesirable faith. I am very gratitude to the timely advises and consultations provided from the rescue center.
Long story short is that my chin was feeling very sick. He was laying around, refusing to eat and drink. It appeared that he has blockage in his intestines, which was causing build up of gases. This is very painful condition for the chin. Eventhough I have hospitalized him for 24 hours in a local veterinary, he didn't seem to get better. Moreover, the vet has prescribed him several drugs that seemed to be not very appropriate. It is very important for your chin to have in front of you a person with experienced and professional opinion. This expertise lacks back home and for this reason I have looked for second opinion.
I have found Forever Feisty Chinchilla Rescue website and directly contacted it by mail. Andrea came back to my plea in a matter of an hour. She has advised me to stop all the medications prescribed by the local vet. Her advice happen to be the best thing for my chinchilla. She has also provided me with list of what to administer to my chin and in what dosages. Fresh pineapple juice, Simethicone drops and pure pumpkin mash have played very important role for my chin to get well. It is explained on the rescue center's website how to use them.
What I have learned from this unhappy experience for my chinchilla was:
1. Diet is very very important. Focus should be on good hay and pellets
2. In NO instances feed your chin with corn, nuts or fruits with high sugar content.
3. To clean chin's cage once a week
4. To play more often with your chin
If you experience any problems with your chinchilla, I urge you to not hesitate and contact the lovely personnel of this great Rescue center.
I hope that my review and advise will be helpful to your chinchilla in need.
Many thanks again to Andrea and her wonderful Forever Feisty Chinchilla Rescue center. Good luck with your future chinchilla experiences.
I had the incredible pleasure of visiting the Forever Feisty Chinchilla Rescue last month. Andrea, the chin guru of this rescue, was thrilled to give me a tour and an in-depth understanding of how she cares for "her chins". And I mean, her chins! She was smiling before she even had the door open, which leads to the rescue, and never stopped until after we had left the rescue, almost 1 1/2 hrs. later. I was introduced to each family (member) and told their story...they all have name plates with accompanying birthdates attached to their home pens. Their pens are quite large with various stages/nooks and hammocks for them to run and hop about. She stopped, spoke to and interacted with each of them, just as she has since they 1st came into her care, and they reciprocated in kind by coming to her with nuzzles, numerous "fly-bys", and vocals. They are all her "babies" she said, regardless of whether they came from an overburdened owner, an unfortunate breeding situation, or just a male/female mixup....she nurses them all back to health with 24/7 in-home care....and, then, continues to care for them after that. Incredible!
The rescue was bright, spotless, organized, and even had a holding/petting/jumping area. It was obvious to me that this rescue is a 24/7 job, but that Andrea absolutely loves her chins and has dedicated herself to them and this rescue (and her online store which supplies chin products.) It's an act of love!
