This post is two stories in one: I rescued Mia- (left) in a garden center. At the time she was a little peanut no bigger than a plant pot . I kept feeding her for a week until I made the decision to bring her home. I needed to spay her since she had started her first heat. At the same time I had my Luna, (right) who had stopped eating for 2 days. Come to find out she had a severe tooth infection and had to undergo mayor surgery! Something impossible for me to afford! I checked everywhere! I needed to get her help ASAP, I could’ve lost her if it wasn’t FOR THE LOVE OF CATS , they kindly helped both my Mia and my Luna. I couldn’t be more grateful! For their generosity and support ! Thanks to them my Mia’s personality has blossomed so much after her surgery and my Luna has now a whole new lease on life! THANK YOU KINDLY FOR THE LOVE OF CATS!! I cannot say enough of them !! Please donate and help them help others in need! if it wasn’t for them who knows if I would’ve been able to spay my Mia and most importantly save my Luna’s life! Cassandra was so kind and amazing to work with! I came across a litter of week-old kittens (no mother in sight) in my parent's neighborhood. Cassandra came to the rescue and saved them in no time! I can't thank For the Love of Cats enough for their help. You can tell they truly care about these animals!
They are amazing!! Really helped me with my kitty melody, they helped me financially tremendously and are on top of their game with being helpful and understanding.
We are so thankful for Cassandra and this Non Profit. She is a wonderful person that truly cares and has helped us many times over the years.
We have trapped many feral cats in our neighborhood with her help and had them spayed or neutered so that they don't make more homeless kitties.
A lot of people love cats but simply do not have the resources to have them neutered and For The Love of Cats has helped many times over.
Now we can feed our outside friends (many too afraid to be petted, but still hungry) and we don't have to worry about making the homeless cat population bigger.

I can not thank cassandra enough for the extraordinary help, that "for the love of cats" has done to help me and my baby girl slinky. Cassandra led me to harbor side animal hospital where Dr Peter's and Dr Benedetti took care of my baby Slinky they discovered that she had fluid surrounding her lungs, which made her breathing extraordinarily difficult. She also has vestibular disease, which makes her walk like she's drunk. There are two separate things that are creating her issues... I believe we have a long road ahead for her recovery. But I would not have been able to have done this without the extraordinary help from "For the love of cats." Cassandra has followed up daily with me to find out how Slinky is doing.

I don't even know where to start! This is the second time that Mrs. Jan, Mr. Jim and Cassandra, helped us. Their dedication is beyond words. The last kitten that I found on the street, 2 years after the previous one, was in deplorable condition. She had big wounds in 3 parts of her body, that gotten worse. We have 2 dogs and 2 cats, had no intention of keeping her, but I had the need to help her. I couldn't just walk away. We decided to find her a good home after she's healed. Well, her healing process took months and months. At one point I thought she's not going to make it. Cassandra spoke and had me taking her to a couple of doctors to figure out what's wrong. Just heartbreaking. She had surgery and got spayed afterwards. Long story short, we ended up making her part of our family. The healing process was so long, months that I spent so much time washing her wounds every night, that we grew to love her very much and our other rescued pets love her and accepted her right away. Today, she's running around and playing, like any kitten should, and thanks to Jan, Jim and Cassandra, she's not dying in a filthy wooded area where people throw trash. I cried many nights, and prayed to God to save her life, and promised to care and love her for the rest of her life. Thank you for helping us for the second time! My gratitude is forever yours. No one was willing to help me the first time, 2 years ago, even though I reached out to so many rescue groups. Not one! It was shocking. And then, miracle happened. For the love of cats reached out right away and, oh, how wonderful they were. I couldn't believe it! I thought I was dreaming. Nothing prepared me for their kindness and willingness to help. It truly takes a special kind of person to do what they do, day and night. Thank you! Not enough words will truly reveal the love in my heart for this nonprofit charity. Thank you! I don't even know where to begin. It was a sunny October day, and I was driving in the car with my dad. I've been saving wildlife for years and have an eye, if you may say, for anything moving around. Something on the sidewalk caught my eye, and I turned the car around to see if it's an animal or just a rock. Sure enough, it's a scrawny little kitten. She was hiding in the bushes, so I went and got her wet food, but wasn't able to catch her. It broke my heart to leave her there overnight, but I tried for hours to get her. Was all scratched from the bushes around the hole she was hiding. I went back over and over again until I got her. Now what? We had 4 pets at home, and my husband clearly said we have enough pets and have to find her a home. So I reached out to "n" societies, and I'm not exaggerating. There was one that called back to tell me that she already has too many cats and can't take another one. Jan and Jim were the only ones who reached out right away and were willing to help me in any way that they could possibly could. Remember, this was after the hurricane Ian and their place got water, but that didn't stop them. They welcomed me into their home and set up everything that Lily the kitten needed. I have never met them before, and I will never forget what they did for Lily and how much they helped. I was so desperate and having 4 pets, just couldn't afford to spay her and take care of what the kitten needed. Jan took care of everything, shots, eye infection, spaying her, and more. I don't have enough words of gratitude for how much they helped us when no one else even cared. They will forever be part of our family, and Lily have a loving home because they cared. Oh, did I mention? We fell in love with Lily pretty quickly, and we just didn't have the heart to say goodbye. She just turned one, and she is happy and healthy, very sweet and loving, and has a few 4 legged siblings to play with. I pray that God keeps Jan and Jim, and all the people helping them, healthy, happy, and on this earth for many years to come. They are absolutely wonderful people, and I will never forget that they were the only ones that helped out of 50 humane societies. Thank you a million times, thank you!

Cassandra is amazing!! She went above and beyond to help us when we trapped a feral kitty over the holiday. She met us to lend us traps, offered to help trap and even came to our house on New Year’s Day to pick up the cat. I was happy to know the cat was getting the help she needed in such great hands. At my wit's end and out of options, I reached out to 'For The Love Of Cats' to see if I could get some help with a stray cat I adopted several years ago as a kitten. My little cat had developed a disturbing habit of urinating around the house outside of her litterbox. One of their representatives kindly made a vet appointment for me the following week.
I highly appreciate their willingness to help me get my rescue cat spayed and get her rabies vaccine updated. So far so good, there are no little puddles around the house any more. I think anyone would have to agree these people are lifesavers!

We came across a sweet kitten in our neighborhood who we brought inside. She was still pretty insistent on wanting to be outside but we worried so much with the male cats around that she would just become pregnant. I am in Naples for a couple weeks during the Christmas holiday to spend time with my mom and to pet sit. Within the first couple of days at my mom's condo I spotted a small gray Kitty. I put some food out for it and I could tell that she was not feral and probably belonged to somebody at some point. But she was pretty rough looking and had an njured paw. I contacted For the Love of Cats rescue. I received a very quick and very warm and supportive response from Cassandra. Long story short, we got her checked out and she is chipped and we are trying to contact the family. But either way, New Hampshire (her name according to the chip reg) is taken care of now and off the streets and into loving care.

For the past 8 month of my little cats life( he just turned a year in July) he has been suffering from pain in his leg and limping. Due to being born with skeletal problems his bones break easy. We were struggling finding a vet to take X-rays and give a proper diagnosis that didn’t want a ton of money that I just don’t have right now.
I reached out to For the Love of Cats and Cassandra answered right away. I explained the situation and she contacted Harborside Animal Hospital who was able to see Onion the Cat within 48 hours. They took the X-rays needed and gave me a treatment plan, all without me having to come up with money I didn’t have.
With the help of For the Love of Cats and Cassandra I was able to get the care my little cat needed. Thank you so much!!

I recently rescued two feral kittens. Living solely on social security, I worried how I would have the funds to have them neutered when my neighbor recommended For the Love of Cats. Shortly after that call, I was contacted and had an appointment with a veterinarian close to me. Last week they were neutered and had their rabies shots. My only expense was $38 for their pain medication. I am so grateful that Naples has this wonderful organization to help folks like me living on social security and willing to give a loving home to feral kittens. So this is Bella the newest edition to our family. So Joe saw this baby limping around with the few strays that are out in the woods around our house. He caught her took her to the vet and wanted to get her ok enough to go back to mom. Well sure enough it was worst than we thought someone had shot this poor little girl. So she needed to have her leg amputated due to the nerve damage that the bullet had done. So we talked and we didn't want her to go to a shelter because we didn't want her to be put down. Well this great organization called For The Love of Cats INC. Got a hold of Joe and asked him if he wanted to keep the kitten they would fund her surgery and take care of everything so we could bring her home. This little girl is a survivor. In 2019 I had a surgery and then I ended up in a coma, when I went home my son had me stay in his home to recover for 3 months, I became very depressed and after 3 months I came back home, but I felt lonely and decided to adopt a pet. I went to adopt, and the first one to come to me with his little paw was Wilson, we fell in love with each other and I adopted him. He looked like an Angel from God, trying to make me walk because I spent a lot of time laying in bed or sitting in a wheelchair. I was Afraid to walk or see anyone. He meaw all the time I was in bed or sitting around, so I got the message. It got to a point that I adopted an older second cat so he can calm down a little. So he did. The following year I notice a bump on his stomach and took him to a veterinarian to remove it. After that he was visiting the Humane Society of Naples and they did a biopsy, but to my surprise it was inconclusive, one of the veterinarian told me that the only help they can give me was put him to sleep. Of course I didn’t listen, since Wilson was eating well, and doing all the normal things he did. I took him to other clinics and all of them keep telling me the same, until I got in touch with For the Love of Cats. I was calling veterinarians and left messages everywhere, because all the prior Veterinarians kept telling me it could be cancer. Casandra answered my voice message and explained to me how they work. I believe God had a hand in them calling me back because I didn’t know what to do anymore. She made an appointment with one of the best veterinarians in town, Dr. Peters in Harborside Clinic. He had taken Wilsons case personally and wouldn’t give up until he found what was wrong with him. I would never be able to afford all the necessary tests and labs needed for Wilson if I kept pursuing a proper diagnosis and care for him on my own, but they took his case and followed up on his care, and by the great compassion of their institution and all the kind and compassionate people connected to it, I can only say that all the struggles I have gone through with the others clinics, is all forgotten now because of the happiness I feel Also “For the Love of Cats” which has given me and Wilson nothing but kindness and compassion and a love for cats. They are the best for collier county low income people with stories like mine.
Dr. Peters will keep on eye Wilson, he promised. God bless For the Love of Cats with more help of volunteers and donations.

My cat Stevie was spayed with the help of "For the Love of Cats" late January of this year. I am so thankful for the help of Cassandra who wanted to make sure she did all she could so that my Stevie could be spayed. I am an independent college student who adopted Stevie off the streets early January. She came into my life when we needed each other most and I am so thankful for this organization to have been able to get her spayed. She healed perfectly after her procedure & has been healthy since! My sister’s boyfriend found this little kitty crossing the road and was able to stop and grab it before it was run over. When he brought it home she was extremely malnourished & had a few bump and scrapes. I was driving down the road where he found her and saw that there were about 2-3 other little kitties that tragically got run over by cars. We saw the kitten’s poor condition and Immediately decided to keep it. We had just rescued two puppies about a week ago and are caring for them so we are in a very tight budget. I got online to see if there was any way we could get help to spay Chai (the kitten) and all the places we called were extremely expensive. Thankfully I came across this website and spoke with Cassandra, she was so sweet and instantly informed me with the good news that her and the foundation would be able to offer me an immense help which would be covering the full surgery for Chai. I am very thankful at how quick and helpful she & the staff at the veterinary were trough out the whole procedure. We had a stray cat come to us and my daughter really took a liking to him as well as he took a liking to my daughter. For the love of cats did a wonderful job setting up a neuter appointment for our little feral kitty.
Since my partner was diagnosed with cancer this year we are running on a tight budget. I was looking for an organization just like for the love of cats, who would help us with the costs. I asked around for help locally, but didn’t get any responses until a friend referred them. I think I received a response from Cassandra within a few hours with clear instructions and a plan how to proceed.
Everything went smoothly. We were able to capture him on the morning of the appointment and brought him ‘home’ the same day.
In between our emails and the actual appointment we had Hurricane Ian and our neighborhood flooded 3 ft. We were so concerned when we had to evacuate and leave him behind, since he didn’t come to our house that afternoon.
Even after a week past Hurricane Ian he still didn’t show up and we thought we lost him and I would have to cancel the appointment.
But luckily he found back to our home eventually and he is back hanging out in his little kitty bed just as usual.

I was very desperate researching places that would spay my cat Regina. I am a college student and was struggling since I really wanted to keep regina but also did not want to let her roam the streets and get pregnant. I found for the love of cats online hoping to get her spayed and to my surprise, they also decided to neuter/spay the other cats we saved! We used to have the sweetest cat named meimei who unfortunately passed away. He was hit by a car and my family and i cried. Now our cats are happy and we found some homes for them and are indoors to avoid what happened to our meimei. I plan on taking Regina with me this January back to school to have someone to comfort me during the winter season on Illinois because I love regina so much! I am forever greatful for what for the love of cats has done for me, my family and the cats that we love. I plan on possibly volunteering when visiting and raising money for my birthday to help more with the mission to save cats and reduce overpopulation.

I woke up one morning, and found a mother cat and two kittens on my porch i tried every place in collier , lee and hendry county for a no kill shelter but they were all to full to take on any more cats in ! so i call everyone i knew and tried facebook no luck ! after a few days went outside a found another mother cat and two more kittens wow that made 6 altogether, I panic I live alone and on disability did not know what to do ?? Then I googled help with cats local and found For the love of cats marco island. made i call and a few minutes later Help was there A wonderful person assured me that they would help get all six of the cats spayed/neutered, Rabbi shots, and there ears tip so they would be able to retired make to the community!! what a wonderful organization there’s no way i would have been able to help all these beautiful cat with out there help !! Our cat Max developed complications after routine neutering surgery and his stitches came loose and he wasn't healing properly costing thousands of extra medical expenses we didn't have. Thankfully your generous donation helped alleviate the burden for my daughter, his owner and got Max the added help he needed to progress. Although there is some more to do with Max , he seems to have at least turned a corner. So thank you for your kindness. If you ever need help finding homes for kittens you know what lengths we would go to to help a cat live a great life. Just ask.

I've had the pleasure of running into them at a handful of their fundraiser events at the Marco Island Winn-Dixie. Even when they're having fun and interacting with the public, they're running into members of the community with their own cat stories. Often, these community members are welcomed into an array of support that they may not have realized was available all along! Between their TNR Program, Emergency Veterinary Care Program, Pet Food Pantry Program, the FGCU Scholarship Program and more--I highly recommend looking into this life-saving organization!

My grandma lives in a Immokalee which is having a really bad cat population problem, most being feral. However, Mr. Arctic here was found lingering around my grandmas house attracted to our attention and love. We would feed him when we'd have a chance to come to Immokalee from Naples. He was the sweetest cat we had ever encountered and wanted nothing more than love from anywhere he could find it. This broke my partner and I's heart, with us having 3 cats at home we couldn't imagine anyone abandoning this sweet boy cat. After jumping in our car to make biscuits on our lap and curl up and rest stirring up a purring happy storm. We knew we couldn't just leave him again. We called a bunch of vets and quoted a high price to get him fixed and tested before taking him home around our cats to foster him and find him a home. Unfortunately we couldn't afford the bills to have that done on such late notice. We found For the Love Of Cats online and a couple other rescues and called and left voicemails to find assistance with this sweet boy. Jim Rich was the only recue to call us back. Even though Jim Rich was on vacation with his wife, it didn't stop him from checking his voicemail and returning our call the next day! Jim was so sweet and compassionate to our problem. He set us up a vet appointment to get Arctic fixed, vaccinated, blood tested and examined. Which I should mention Animal Life Hospital works closely with For the Love Of Cats where Arctic was seen, they were surprised to see Jim take care of all the other things including blood tests which are very expensive, because they usually cover spay/neutering and rabies only. But Jim had made special exception with ease to get Arctic ready to take home so we could also feel safe that we weren't bringing anything home to harm our own cat family. This was such a heart warming experience to us and I'm sure Arctic as well. Arctic has been living with us for almost a week now beyond happy he is indoors away from the heat and bugs, and gets tons of treats/food/love! This would have never been possible for him to have another chance without For the Love of Cats. We absolutely adore him! For the Love of Cats have given us hope for humanity, and we are both going to try to team up and help them with some TNR for the out of control Immokalee cat population. My partner and I adore Jim Rich and his wife tremendously for what they do, and my partner and I aspire to evolve into the amazing people they are for helping all these poor furr babies!
We want to thank For the Love of Cats from the bottom of our hearts for helping this young boy cat when no one else wanted to help us. What a remarkable recue they are running. Here's to the future!

I've had the most wonderful experience with this non profit organization, they helped me and my roommates with getting our use to be outdoor non homed cats spayed and or neutered and in return allowing us to make them indoor pets!! They also helped me recently with an emergency visit to the vet for my dog which blew me away that they have such an open and caring heart for not just cats but all animals. I really recommend donating to help them continue to do for others what they have done for me and my babies.

We were happy to help with all of your cats and when you called with the emergency for your dog on the Saturday night before Easter Sunday, we could not think of not helping any injured animal in need. We had wonderful help from the Guardian Angels as well with splitting the emergency bill for your dog. So glad all is well, and the injuries were not serious. Purrs!
I called For The Love Of Cats to ask to help me with an abandoned cat that I took in and whose owner had died. Within minutes Jim scheduled a vet appointment at Harbourside Animal Clinic so the cat could get a check up and rabies vaccination. I was moved to tears for all the loving help that was given by Jim to save the beautiful cat. I found her a loving home. For The Love of Cats is an outstanding and generous organization that deserves all the support we can give. I am ever so greatful.

We were happy to help and SO glad there was a place for her to go after she has her kittens.
We have a community of about 8-10 cats at our home in the estates. We wanted to trap, spay & neuter, then release them, but weren't sure where to go to keep expenses low. Jim was such a wealth of information & very helpful. We caught two cats that were harder for us to trap (most of our community is VERY friendly) & Jim helped us get them into a vet quickly and even offered for the organization to foot the bill. We are so grateful we found them and your donations truly help! So far we have had 1 Tom cat, 2 of age females, and 1 young male successfully sterilized and returned to their community! wanted to tell you a little bit about Jan and Jim for the love of cats I have a two year old rag doll that needed some help with a urinary blockage and they were right there to help me out when I had to bring him to the hospital. If it wasn’t for them he would’ve not survived I am very grateful for them and for their help my baby means the world to me and so does this rescue they help so many cats and kittens and help so many people that need help. I can surely say that this rescue Deserves a lot. They are wonderful people and a wonderful rescue that’s why I love their out reach program because they help the community and they help most important in these kittens finding a home. We got this precious baby named MeoMeo “meow meow” from my sister in law and had her for one about a week when we noticed something was wrong she didn’t come out from hiding for almost three days and was behaving like something was wrong, dried up nose, and she went back in hiding. I contacted for the love of cats and asked for help in fear she would die and I just got her, I wouldn’t give up the fight for her and neither did the love of cats. They helped us when we financially couldn’t afford her vet bill or where to even take her. With in an hour we got a phone call to bring her to the vet and have her checked out immediately because her life could be in danger. Come to find out she had a 104 fever and a uti. They gave her an antibiotic that would last for 14 days, with in a couple hours we could tell she was starting to already feel a little better, For the love of cats continued to check in with our baby daily to make sure she was improving, they guided us to change her diet for the most nutrients, and ultimately they saved her life. We are forever grateful and owe our gratitude to the love of cats. Thank you for saving our baby. ✨

We found our kitty in a construction pipe when she was just a month or so old. We’ve never been cat people but this little one stole our heart. For The Love of Cats helped us in figuring out how to raise her and helped lead us in the direction on a good vet. We are beyond grateful this nonprofit! Debbie was a huge help and came to our rescue in a time of need.
I had the opportunity to volunteer with For the Love of Cats after my kitten unexpectedly passed. I personally met the founders of the organization as well and all of these individuals are some of the sweetest and most compassionate people i’ve ever met. Thank you For the Love of Cats :)

Three years ago, I knew my 16 yr old cat was very sick; however, I had NO $$ at the time, had just gone on disability. I called my vet of ten years and asked if she'd be willing to check Zoe out (whom she'd seen many times) for a reduced fee or if I cud set up a pmt plan, and was shocked when she told me she was 'unable to do this for me'....So.
I found a list of all the animal rescue groups in SW Fl, 7 or 8, and went down the list calling and leaving msgs about my predicament. Well, guess what?? Only ONE person ever got back to me, and that was Jan and Jim of FLOC. They understood time was of the essence, and set me up with the animal hospital they work with, Harborside. I was informed that Zoe had stomach cancer, well advanced; putting her down was the only solution. They were very gracious with myself and my poor cat. Jan took care of the entire bill for me....It is hard to put into words how much this gesture of kindness eased my nonstop despair and worry; I was able to let my baby go knowing nothing more could have been done for her. I've never had to ask for $ help b4, and was SO humbly thankful, and she just said, "Happy to help, that's what we do!"
There are quite a few feral cats living in my area, and b4 and during the Zoe crisis I had taken to feeding two on a regular basis. It took me 2 years to get one old black tomcat to trust me. Jan and Jim are resolute believers in the Trap/Spay/Release mode of managing the large feral population in South Naples, lent me traps to catch my guys. Shortly after Zoe passed, BOTH my ferals showed up with broken legs within weeks of each other (pretty sure my gun-happy naybr shot em). Old Tom simply disappeared, and Jan let me take the other to the vet, where they found cancer riddling her body b4 setting the break. They never woke her up out of anaesthesia. Jan again rescuing the both of us.
I have kept in contact with her over the years, mostly with feline questions. The woman is the most knowledgeable person on the subject I've ever met, and I have had cats myself for sixty years!! Just recently, my 15 yr. 'replacement' cat Mao went completely blind in a matter of days, due to high blood pressure...I had never heard of this, but Jan jumped on me as soon as I mentioned her pupils had been large for coupla days...I was too late to save her eyesight, but she's on meds now to keep BP down.
This couple has been saving cats on Marco Island for many years (they built their OWN shelter off their home to foster animals when necessary, for pity sake!). They are truly extraordinary people--I'm so glad God put them in my life; I am--seriously-- eternally grateful for their selfless kindness and generosity.

A Feral cat hid one of her kittens in the hood of my car. I drove to the car dealership for a scheduled appointment and the mechanic found the kitten unharmed hiding under my engine. I decided to adopt the kitten because my son & I fell in love with him so quickly. The rest of the litter was found and trapped. When it came time to get my kitten neutered, I needed financial assistance. I reached out to For the Love of cats in Marco Island and left a message. Jim Rich called me right back and said he was going to take care of the surgery for me and pay for the rabies shot too. I was so grateful! I could not believe the generosity! Jim was so nice and understanding. He arranged an appointment for me at the vet for the very next day. My kitten, Freeway, had the surgery and is healing well. Everything went smoothly. Thank you for everything you do for the community and especially your love for cats! I appreciate everything you do and will always remember how much you helped my family in a time of need! I was in a horrible auto accident and still recovering after three months. My cat (Smalls) that I had rescued when he was 2 weeks old was needing neutered. I called around to vet offices and I wasn't able to afford their prices. I had called a few low cost spay/neutered places, but never got a return call right away. I remembered the Love of Cats on Marco Island, which I had adopted a cat from them back in early 2000's. I called them to see if they could direct me to someone who does low cost neutering. Jim called me right away and told me they could help me with the cost. I was very much appreciative since I had not worked in three months. He called and set up the appointment for me too!! I would like to thank Jim and Jan Rich with For The Love Of Cats on Marco Island, Florida from the bottom of my heart and soul. They gave me back my heart, my little Scottie girl. Scottie just turned fifteen in December 2019. She's a crazy kitty whom I adore. She runs from the bed, up to her five foot tall kitty tower, back down again, to the kitchen, all the while talking and sassing. She follows me all through our apartment, talking, meow, come on Mommy, MEOW.
I noticed her bowl didn't seem to be missing any food for a few days. Gave her fresh food with a few of her favorite treats. It was all still there in the morning. Scottie stopped eating, drinking, even from the bathroom faucet! Over the past six months she had lost several pounds but, was still eating. Now she's under the bed not even coming out to greet me at the front door. With nothing going in, nothing was coming out, the litter box was empty. Scottie has never been sick. She wakes me up at 3a.m. with gut wrenching cries like I had never heard before. I didn't know what to do.
She has been by my side through so pretty tough times, my best friend. I am a brain cancer survivor! Every year, since my surgery, I have to get a MRI to see if there are any changes. I work full time, I have health insurance, but have been struggling to pay my portion of the medical bills. I owe Moffitt Cancer Center quite a bit, that has to be paid before my 2020 MRI. So, I prayed. Remembered that a friend had done a video interview of this kitty rescue on Marco Island. Got the info, "For The Love Of Cats"! I sent them an email that evening. Giving Scottie water with a piece of sponge, she didn't care for that at all. Next morning I'm at work, got a missed call. It was Jim Rich! I called him, he said, Yes WE definitely need to get Scottie to the Vet. Can you drop her off in the morning at Harborside Animal Clinic and WE will take care of it. I couldn't hardly believe it, I had never met these people and they are going help me take care of my kitty.
Harborside was amazing too! they had already talked to Jim Rich. They took us back, Dr. Gorman and his nurse were the kindest, most gentle, and thorough. They ran all kinds of tests, gave Scottie fluids, observed her, loved her, and fixed her. I even called the doctor when we got home with more questions, Dr. Gorman said, I'm glad you called with your concerns. Scottie is eating, drinking, and the litter box has plenty of action! She's back to her sassy self, one day at a time.
Without For The Love Of Cats, I don't know if my Scottie would be nudging me to pet her, while I am trying to write my sincerest thanks to Jim and Jan Rich. May God Bless and Keep you, and "For The Love Of Cats". We are forever grateful.

As a newly-married couple, pets weren’t in the initial plan....especially during a pandemic. But God had another plan, and a sweet, little, male cat showed up to our back door a few days before Christmas. As self-proclaimed “dog people” but a verified animal lover, I knew he needed to be neutered and vetted. In seeking information, I stumbled upon For the Love of Cats, which had been mentioned by a pet finding Facebook group I trusted. From my very first email, Jan at For the Love of Cats, made me feel confident and capable of becoming this sweet baby’s cat mom.
Jim Rich and the excellent people at “For the love of cats” are nothing short of incredible. When my cat Eddie had an eye rupture a month ago, I was both distraught and unsure of what to do. After being directed by a family friend to this organization, Jim immediately helped me. Not only was he more than concerned about Eddie, he assured me they would be able to help. They helped with financial assistance for medical care that I was unable to pay for and helped get Eddie back to his former playful and extremely cuddly self. I cannot recommend this organization enough to anyone looking to donate. Thank you Jim Rich and ‘For the love of cats’ for everything!

They are a wonderful organization. One of my cats Jamie was having mouth issues in which he had to have 12 teeth pulled. Unfortunately he is one of the small percentage that needs long care after surgery. Without their help I could have lost my cat who isnt just my baby but helps with my anxiety. I cant say enough about them and the organization. They are truly a blessing.

We were so glad to be able to help Jamie with his terrible mouth infection. He was too young to suffer with this kind of pain and infection.
We reached out for assistance when an outdoor stray that we have been feeding, Ferris, showed up injured and we needed guidance. When Ferris first showed up in our yard awhile back we initially thought he was feral. As time went on he became more trusting and we realized he was a stray cat. We continued to feed him but when he showed up injured we knew we had to take the next step to make him an indoor cat. We reached out to several groups and Jim was the only one to make an immediate response. He set things up with the vet to get Ferris care and testing so Ferris could make the transition to join our indoor kitties. We are so thankful to For the Love of Cats for their assistance. They are the Best!!

When my father unexpectedly passed away very suddenly and left behind his three senior cats we were struggling for a place that would take them in and keep them together. For the Love of Cats not only accepted them but immediately found them a loving home that welcomed all three together. Today I've lost the most wonderful special cat my baby bunny. I contacted the owners of For the Love of cats Jim and Jan we're both angels and they set up me to bring my cat who was much sicker than I realized to the vets where she was put down this morning after 16 long and beautiful years we shared together. Bunny gave me seven beautiful children of which I still have for babies 2 remember her by when I look in their eyes. Jim Rich had called and arranged for me to bring my beautiful baby to the vet at no charge which was shocking but shows me they really do love animals and as I call them and extension of ourselves. Enough good things cannot be said about this couple in Marco Island Florida they have been there before for me and yet again now the time where I am so sad I have and know that there are special people that God put on this Earth to watch over his children with four legs and a tail. Thank you very much both Jim and Jan you both are angels God bless you and the foundation.

I received a message from Clara who lives in the same neighborhood where For The Love of Cats TNR'd many cats last year (see my review below). Clara took in a young stray cat. She named her Chilindrina and when a mobile vet came by, Clara made sure the cat was vaccinated. She also wanted to get her spayed and was worried Chilindrina would go into head very soon. When Clara found out how much spay surgery costs, she realized it was not something she could afford right now. Plus, she didn't have transportation. Clara's neighbor gave her my number and after I contacted Jan, things happened very fast. Chilindrina was spayed the next day. Once again, For The Love of Cats stepped in to help!!! Thank you Jim and Jan for all you do for the cats and their families!!

This is my second year volunteering for Jim and Jan in an effort to help them fulfill their mission of ending the cruelty of cat overpopulation through TNR. For the Love of Cats had a HUGE TNR project this year: 50 cats in 50 days, and many many more. Their TNR efforts are ongoing.......Jim and Jan are absolutely the best and truly care about every single cat. Apart from rescuing many kittens in the process, abandoned cats were taken off the streets. The last one rescued just recently was a 10 year old who now LOVES being an indoor cat. He was in bad shape with skin/fur issues and quite malnourished. Jim and Jan got him vetted and he turned out to be a great candidate for their Seniors for Seniors program. I woke up one morning to a very skinny MaMa cat with 5 babies on the side of my house. I wasn't sure what to do so I called For the of Cats and Jim helped me right away. We set up traps and caught the mom and babies and was able to go see a Doctor to check the family .The mother was spayed and received all her shots and check up and she was brought back home with a huge bag of food and is doing Great. The babies were put up for adoption and also are doing great.Thank you so very much for all your help and the education that you provided for our neighborhood of 204 Families.Your the Best
Beloved Murphy had lost his guardian of 8 years to cancer. Jan and Jim facilitated Murphy's adoption for his grieving family by posting his story and their contact information online.
Their passion for cats and integrity was evident from our first conversation. I appreciated that they were so knowledgable and open to answering my questions. They also ensured I was a good fit for Murphy, which is crucial for successful adoption.
I've since adopted Murphy and he's been a wonderful addition to the family. He takes his responsibilities of being a guard cat, a welcoming committee for family/friends, and a remote-workforce office cat very seriously.

There are many nonprofits in Collier County but you would be hard-pressed to find one as devoted to their mission as For The Love Of Cats.
Jan and Jim go above and beyond to help and their love for cats shows in their dedication in all they do.
When my coworkers and I had managed to capture an emaciated and clearly struggling kitty and after
a disappointing conversation with another group, I turned to my neighbor, who suggested I reach out to Jan and Jim. Not only was my call returned almost immediately, they called me while they were on vacation. They quickly set up an appointment for a visit to Harborside and even checked up with me once they got back.
But that's not all. This kitty was very matted, had dirty engine oil in her fur, and had begun to pull her fur out. Jan and Jim came to to the rescue again and a team member, very lovingly and carefully, gave this kitty a "spa day" and shaved her and got her cleaned up. This wonderful team member even provided me with tips to keep her looking her kitty best.and then sent her home with a little blanket so she would keep warm.
I am forever indebted to Jan & Jim and their team. With their help, Chloe got another chance at life and is well on her way to being happy and healthy again.

My cat Putter went missing from our home on Marco Island. I had hear about this wonderful organization from several people just a month ago. I called and left a message and within the hour Jim contacted me. He took all of the information on Putter to include a photo. He then gave me all the tips a person should do at home so Putter might find his way home. The word was out all over the Island and beyond. Putter found his way home soon after. We were glad to help with a courtesy listing and promoting her on our social media pages.
Our cat Roamie was missing for 2 months and 3 days when I got a phone call from DAS. They told me a foster mom had a cat matching the description of Roamie. Within hours, I met two of the most amazing people, but unfortunately, it wasn't our cat. After hugs and tears on my part, I left with a heavy heart. 30 minutes later I received a call from Mr. Jim Rich with For the Love of Cats, Inc. He told me the foster mom reached out to him and told our story. Mr. Rich said he might have Roamie in a foster home on Marco! Unbelievable! The next morning we confirmed her chip number and once again within hours I came face to face with another amazing foster mom, who without a doubt saved her life. When Roamie was found, she was in really bad shape and because of this amazing, caring and effective network of people, she is in full recovery mode and finally home. My heart is so grateful to all involved. Thank you all again.

On 9/4/2019 a friend found a two week old kitten. I took the baby in and he was doing great until Sept 6th, 2019. He wasn't pooping. I tried all I knew and began you tubing and calling cat rescues. The last one I called Sunday evening was For the love of cats that came up on a search engine. Jim and his wife talked to me, gave me wonderful input and encouragement. Day four and the baby still isn't defecating and text For the love of cats and asked if they could take in the baby as I couldn't afford the vet bill. Jim from For the love of cats reached out to me and offered their organization will pay for the vet visit. I was so over joyed and called Dr. Van Rochel in Fort Myers Florida and took him right in. All went good and the baby kitten is doing much better. With out the emotional and financial support this baby was in serious trouble but the For the love of cats came through and we are so thankful for the kindness and caring. This is the type of rescues that deserve your donations. Other " rescues" didn't even want to talk to me or offer any type of help or information but For the love of cats was right there and both Jim and his wife gave me excellent advise. I've been doing rescue, rehab and re homing for 51 years but they taught me a few things. Thank you so much for your kindness, caring and wisdom. The baby is healthy, doing great and sleeping right now. His little belly feels a lot better thanks to the caring staff at Dr. Van Rochels.
A very scared and weak black cat was hiding at my chiropractor’s office drinking from a ditch and we tried for days to get her. When i did she was in pretty terrible shape! I needed help and for the love of cats help us get her help. I am now fostering her while we search for a good home for this poor little girl. She looked so scary, turns out she is a total lap cat:) thanks for the heartfelt help!!!
I am currently fostering a sweet and loving 8 year old kitty that my son found emaciated and fading in our SWFL heat. She was near the end. We reached out to For the Love of Cats, and Jim and Jan quickly and compassionately organized full vet care for her, with their network of vet and vet-tech angels. Within 2 days, she was stabilized and able to come home with us. I am so thankful for and impressed with this organization and their dedication to each and every little cat that needs love and care. My Jasmine was rescued a month after Huricane Irma in 2017. She had 3 tiny kittens; she was abandoned with them or about to give birth to them. My husband and I came by to see their operation and donate a bit because our fanatic cat loving neighbors talked us into it. We saw Jasmine and fell in love with her and this charity. The facility was spotless; a retired volunteer vet was there doing her weekly exams; there were volunteers tending to the kitties; the environment was calm and loving. Jim totally set us up for success with this shy, traumatized two year old cat. He gave us ALL the supplies we needed and counseled us as to what to expect. Over the first six months we got some support from the staff and now we have the most affectionate pet, one whose little family was saved from destruction. This is my story, I haven't even mentioned how their work with feral cats is allowing the survival of bird species on Marco Island. "For the Love of Cats" is also "For the Love of Ground Owls." It's interesting that in the 17 years that we have been caring for all the feral cats on Marco Island, that we have not had one problem with the endangered birds on the island. We have such wonderful volunteers that feed all the feral cats so they have no interest in bothering the birds on the island. Protection of the endangered birds of Marco Island is of upmost importance. We will do whatever is necessary to protect our precious environment and do the best for the feral cats as well.
This group is truly remarkable. When we found a 2 week old kitten on a road in Alabama, we didn't know what to do or have the money for her. She had many problems with fleas, broken tail, ear mites, viruses, infections, and more. This completely selfless and generous group took absolutely wonderful care of her. Thanks to them, this sweet girl went from 2 weeks to now being 2 years.

I can’t say enough about the help “for the love of cats” has given me. When we were leaving to go north for the holidays we could not find our cat. I thought for sure he somehow had gotten outside without us knowing. I left our neighbor the key and they continued looking for him. Once he was found I called “for the love of cats” and they could not have been more helpful. They found someone to come in and take care of my cat until I was able to fly back to Florida two weeks later. The cat sitter was very pleasant and called to let me know how my cat was doing daily.

Jim has a big heart for helping, He helped my friend and her cats.(Moon and Heart) Financially unstable she was forced to move to a homeless shelter and I offered her cats a place while she gets straightened . They changed the lives of thousands of cats on several Florida Islands, after done with that, they went inland to continue their work. They use common sense animal care. I went to their agency years ago and they had people in rocking chairs holding/feeding newborn and/or recovering cats, an isolation area where workers held the animals in full gowns and gloves, other areas where cats could play and learn social skills.
This is a great agency that is making a huge difference in the lives of cats.

Several years ago, when we discovered the feral cat we'd been feeding had kittens, FTLC taught us to be good foster parents to newborns and provided their medical care until they were old enough to adopt out (which FTLC also handled). Yesterday, we found a kitten and, once again, Jim and Jan to the rescue... Their assistance with the medical side of things (not to mention advice) will enable us to welcome this sweetie as the newest member of our family. (She becomes our sixth "rescue baby.") We're so grateful to this organization both for the wonderful work they continue to do, year after year, and for making it possible to do our own part in providing loving homes to these amazing creatures.

This wonderful charity was the ONLY one that stepped up to the plate to help me help a cat in the woods. She is wild (but loves people so was probably dropped off) and has been fed at a Naples apartment complex for years! There was a group of us scheduling feeding times to keep her fed and healthy. Being one of only two left to feed her (people move out) it was important to find others as I leave town for 6 months but still want her taken care of. They were able to get three people to volunteer to stop by using Social Media. Jan was concerned, thorough and responsive. I love that it didn’t cost this charity money - only time. Jan was quick to respond and follow-up so I could leave town knowing this sweet cat would not starve. So impressed with their love of cats and support of those that do! We had a cat spending time in our crawl space for about 1-1/2 years. Thinking it belonged to a neighbor we just allowed it to come and go. ThisFebruary we had to seal up the openings to the crawl space after having a slight termite problem and contracting with a company who I dusted on this. The cat was frantically trying to get in again and as a result we discovered she was feral with a notched ear. We put in a kitty door and began feeding her. She became very friendly and spent more and more time outside with us. Unfortunately we have an intolerant dog, a parrot and allergies so when she tried to come into the house we couldn’t allow her to. We are seasonal residents so I found Fir the Love of Cats andcalled Jim. He responded immediately and came to check her out. We were willing to allow her to remain with the hope that he could arrange to have someone feed her til we returned. He met her and said he would try bringing her in to see if she would acclimate to being an indoor cat. It has now been about a week and she is doing great. I have visited her a few times and have been assured by Jan and Josh that she is very sweet and very adoptable. This is a wonderful organization and although it breaks my heart to not be able to keep her, I know we did the right thing and am hopeful that she will find a good home with some very lucky person.

I live in the Golden Gate Estates in Naples and my family has an outside cat we’ve been feeding and doing our best to take care of for sometime now. We noticed recenty his fleas had become very bad and he likely had some other medical issues as he hasn’t been seen be a Vet in at least 5 years. After contact For the Love of Cats, I wasn’t sure what to expect. To mine and my family’s great surprise, we received a swift reply and by the next day I was making arrangements with Jim to have our friend looked at by a doctor. Jim kept in contact with me all the way through the doctor visit and followed up at the end to be sure our friend was well. I have adopted two cats (which I still have) with the help of For the Love of Cats. I got the first one from the shelter on Marco Island, which is a lovely facility. The staff were helpful and friendly but thorough in reviewing my ability to love and care for the kitten. I adopted a second one four years later from Naples Humane Society on the advice of the For the Love of Cats since they didn't have the orange cat I was looking for at the time. Even though I didn't adopt one from their shelter, they owners called around to find the kitten I wanted and then referred me to the humane society. They are very helpful and friendly people and the shelter is immaculate and well run. I recommend it highly.

After losing our family cat of 17 years, we knew we had to fill our home with more love. Nearly 15 years ago, Jim spent a lot of time with me reassuring me about adding two young cats to a family of two older cats, which I did, and 5 years later I added two kittens when the older cats passed on. The dedication of Jan and Jim and their volunteers for the cats in our community on and off the island is tireless. They have truly dedicated their lives and their home to saving the lives of countless cats. These cats would have otherwise died or been killed for the protection of our protected wildlife on the island.
A couple of years ago, I adopted from them a beautiful 5 year old female named Pepper named so for her lovely fur. She is the sweetest, gentlest, healthiest cat I have ever had the honor to adopt. She was selected especially for me to suit my situation and it could not have worked out better for her and for me. They gave me a crate with a bed for her, lots of food and suggestions for her keep specifically. They also followed up with calls and emails to keep in touch to make sure she was ok and that to see if I had any additional needs with her.

Jim and Jan helped me rescue a feral cat 12 years ago. He was a mess from flea allergies and needed to be neutered. After trapping him and getting him the vet care he needed, they brought him back to me. He was too feral to try and find him a home. I fed him outside for 1 1/2 years and over time was able to pet him. He decided one day he just didn't want to be out anymore. He came in and never went out again, other than the lanai. He is the love of our life. So sweet. He cant get enough petting and brushing. If Jim and Jan hadn't helped me, Red probably would have died from infection with all the sores he had. They have helped me a few other times. They are great people. If you ever want to help a charity, this is the one.
Jan and Jim are so dedicated to these cats and kittens and serve such an important service here in south Florida. Not only do they nurse back to health these poor abandoned and often sickly creatures but also help in controlling future feral colonies with their spay/neuter program. They are truly passionate about their work.
We adopted our precious Polo almost three years ago. For The Love of Cats has, indeed, become family... Not only were they incredibly thorough throughout the process of procuring our kitty, but they remain in touch always anxious to hear how he is doing... They care, they give 100% of themselves to this endeavor. During Hurricane Irma, they evacuated all of their cats and kittens (not a small feat) to safety until they could safely return to Marco Island. Concerned for their well-being, I emailed to find out if they were all safe. I was happy to hear they were back in operation, having sustained some damages, but they were also quite concerned with how we had fared (and of course, Polo). For The Love of Cats is the epitome of a the type of nonprofit I want to be associated with and support.

My friend and I just recently met Jim and Jan Rich and shortly thereafter registered our feral cat colony with For The Love of Cats. I can't praise this organization enough for their compassion and commitment to such a great cause and special thanks for everything they did for our beloved "Mr. Big".
My LeMew went missing, and I discovered a hole in the corner of the screen. My worst fears were realized. I have loved her since she poked her little head out of the Marco Marriott spa bushes, and insisted I take her home 4 years ago.
At that time, For the Love of Cats helped me get her a medical checkup and check her for a chip.
So when she was gone, I knew who to call. Jim Rich returned my call and was so thorough in his explanation on what to do. He said I should look for her in the bushes right near where she jumped out. He said cats immediately camouflage themselves and calling her wouldn't work. He recommended I put food, water, and a familiar item out on the ground near the hole. He recommended I take a flashlight out at dusk and get down on the ground and look in the bushes. If I didn't find her, he said he would come out and set a trap.
I am happy to report we didn't have to set a trap. Mew is home safe and happy.
For the Love of Cats can also read microchips in cats and help change the information to the new owner. Jim Rich really helped me to have hope that I would see her again by being detailed in his advice. Thank you, thank you, thank you!

Once upon a time, in a land not so far away, lived this remarkable couple named Jan and Jim Rich. Together they transformed a portion of the beautiful home into a magical place where abandoned, sick and forgotten cats and kittens were rescued and loved. There was a vetenerian wizard named Doctor Latayah who made the sick and hurting ones well. There were volunteers who spent countless hours nurturing and socializing the cats and kittens so they would be eligible for adoption into forever homes. Every life was sacred and no cat or kitten in the community was left behind. This story has a happy ending because this fairy tale place actually exists and is called "For the Love of Cats" located in Marco Island, Florida.
I am proud and very blessed to be one of the many volunteers associated with this awe inspiring organization. If there was a ten star rating, I would award it. Since five is the maximum, I reluctantly settle for five.

Both myself (Zen) and my little sister Panthera were living on the streets...scared, hungry and alone...Although we were saved months apart and not actual siblings we love each other very much ...We both did not know where our next meal was coming from or if we would even survive another day living with the challenges Florida weather presents to pets living alone and uncared for. That’s where Jim and Jan came into the picture.They cared enough to take the time, patience, dedication and resources to capture us...At first we were not happy to be captured but Jim and Jan quickly let us know from day one what it meant to be loved and cared for. Their caring staff provided us with everything we needed...warmth, love , food and a purpose...then just when we thought life was as good as it gets... our furever pet Mom adopted us...providing us with a warm, loving, caring furever home where we have our own room with toys, kitty condos, and plenty of good food. We have screened areas to play in. It is fun to watch the birds and geckos. Life on the inside is Great ! We always hear our Mom say ....it would not have been possible without Jan , Jim and their volunteers going over and above to make sure we were captured and cared for. Ultimately, they found us the Best pet parents a cat could ever want.
A special thank you to the women who hand makes the blankets we were sent home with . We hope she knows what a comfort they were when transitioning to our new home. They still are our security blankets and to this day we still use them.

I cannot say enough good things about this organization. My mom is a volunteer and I have been able to see all of the good Jan and Jim do through my visits to the shelter with my mom. Last fall, my family adopted two little boy kitties and they are the sweetest cats. I have just recently moved to Alabama and was able to adopt my new kitten, Claire, prior to the move. Not only is Claire an absolute joy but also, Jan made sure Claire and I had everything we needed before making the move. For the Love of Cats is an incredible organization.
Jan and her husband have hearts bigger than you can imagine! They have created the most amazing, no kill kitty shelter I've ever seen! I have a home in Minnesota and a home on Marco Island. I've volunteered on several of my visits to Marco and made donations every year. Their shelter is so clean and organized. Their kitties are taken care of with love and care. It is so obvious their love and compassion for these animals. I personally have adopted two cats at different times. Both cats continue to bring much joy to our home. Whenever I go to Pet Smart I always go and see who is up for adoption. I wish I could take them all home. Without FLC I truly believe so many cats would not survive, that people would not have the opportunity to adopt such wonderful cats and that education on feral and rescues would be severely lacking in Collier County. Each cat or kitten who comes in is given the absolute best care that is possible & is loved & nurtured until we find them "forever homes". The shelter is spotlessly clean, well organized, & staffed by a wonderful group of volunteers. For The Love Of Cats is by far the most wonderful, clean, caring, attentive shelter I have ever visited in my life. I am proud to be a volunteer for over 5 years. All of the volunteers are second to none. These kittens and cats recieve the best care and love. They are all so well socialized and adorable. The managers of this fantastic shelter are the most selfless people I have ever met. I feel privileged to be associated with these people and this facility. It's a great place to adopt a kitten or cat.
For the Love of Cats works along with Petsmart on Saturdays providing adoption services for cats & kittens needing a Forever Home. Through this program, we adopted Oprah. She was my mother's day present that year.
Jim and Jan do a wonderful job with all the services that they provide. From time to time I stop by on a Saturday and share a story about Oprah. The Glamour Puss Calendar Contest is a way for us to support For the Love of Cats and also show off our special felines.
A few years ago some very small kittens (too young to eat on their own) were found in my condo complex by a family who were renting a unit. They bottle fed the kittens, but couldn't keep them as they were returning home to France soon. They were going to take them to the local county shelter, but when they found out that was not a no kill shelter, they were just going to turn the kittens out! When I found out about this I volunteered to take them & find homes for them or a no kill shelter that would take them. After contacting the only no kill rescue groups I knew of & having no luck, a friend referred me to the Love of Cats. They were full at the time, but said if I could keep the kittens for about 2 more weeks, they would have space to take them. When the time came, I took them to the shelter & was very impressed with how clean & organized it was. They even followed up with me to let me know that the kittens were adopted together to a good home. This is an amazing organization!
It all started with looking to adopt a kitten. I filled out the application, looked at the available kittens online and visited the For the Love of Cats shelter. The set-up is remarkable for the care of those felines that come through their door. Jim and Jan's dedication and love for what they are doing is remarkable. I was so impressed with the facility that after adopting my 2 boys from them I became a volunteer. They encourage people to call them with any questions or concerns you may have after you take your new family member home. Could not have asked for a better experience. They're the BEST!!!!

It all started for me in March 2014 when my husband gave me the ok to get a kitten. My cat Rex had passed away almost 2 years ago. I was watching the "kitty cam" and spotted Opie. He stole my heart. I filled out an adoption form and called to make a visit to the shelter. Jim couldn't have been nicer. I was amazed how clean the shelter was and the professionalism of those involved. I was able to go visit Opie and his littermates for playtime. I also picked Opie's brother Shilo to come home with me. Jan and Jim answered all my questions and concerns. Their hearts are 100% dedicated to their work with these cats and kittens. They are always so upbeat and emit such joy with each adoption that takes place. I was so impressed with For the Love of Cats that I became a volunteer 2 weeks after I brought my boys home. All the cats and kittens are so well taken care of and loved while in their care. Back in May, I adopted my beautiful baby girl, Coraline, from Jim and Jan at For The Love Of Cats. They were truly wonderful to work with, and I could tell that they cared deeply for all the cats and kittens placed with them. They go above and beyond to make sure that every cat/kitten is placed in a home where they will be loved and well taken care of. I would absolutely recommend For The Love Of Cats to anyone looking to adopt and I will definitely go back to them when I'm ready to adopt my next fuzzy baby.
We adopted my beloved Oscar from For the Love of Cats. He was a stray, de-clawed, abandoned, dirty, scruffy, biting, scared cat that someone from For the Love of Cats had rescued from the Golf Course. From the first moment I saw him and he walked over to me and sat beside me, I fell in love. Oscar did not bite me, nor did he ever run and hide. After only a few days, he began to groom himself From the moment I adopted him, Oscar was my constant companion until he died of cancer five years later. For the Love of Cats checked up on Oscar. They made the adoption easy, and, they told me that if anything ever happened to me, they would take him in. Their shelter is clean and homey. The cats are loved and well-cared for (even Oscar who bit everyone), and loved. Volunteers pet feral kittens to tame them. Oscar had only been there a few days when I claimed him, but a volunteer sat near him during the day so that he wouldn't be afraid. For the Love of Cats is one non-profit organization that gives its all and then some to save cats, spay and neuter feral cats, and prepare cats for their forever homes. They even have a program of older cats for older people so that a person getting up there in years can adopt an older cat, and, should the cat survive the owner, For the Love of Cats will take the cat back. Wonderful organization!!!!!
About 3 years ago a stray cat started coming by nightly. One night she showed up with a mass in her neck. I had no idea what to do, so I called For the Love of Cats. They not only helped, they let us release her so she would continue to trust us.
On July 5, 2015, I adopted a little black kitten they rescued. When she was found, she weighed 7 ounces and her eyes were still closed. With For the Love of cats, her dtermination, and the love of her foster mom she made it!! She is now a feisty 5 month old kitten we named Maxie.

More than 10 years ago I needed help with a feral cat I was feeding and had no idea where to turn. This poor cat looked like someone had ripped his fur from his neck, almost blood raw. I couldn't imagine what was wrong with him. I couldn't get near him. My sister told me about Jim & Jan Rich. I called Jim and he sent a guy over with a trap. They took him to the vet, did all the tests needed, spayed him and gave flea treatment. He was highly allergic to fleas. They dropped him off at my house after he was done at the vet. They said he couldn't be put up for adoption because he was feral. So I continued to feed him and another cat on my porch. I was eventually able to put revolution on him for the fleas. For the next year and a half I fed him breakfast and dinner and was able to pet him. He decided one day he didn't want to be out anymore. He became an indoor cat and the BEST CAT EVER. I love him with all my heart. He immediately got along with my other two. I still have him , almost 11 years later. He sleeps in bed with me every night. He would have died outside, alone, if not for Jim and Jan. They have helped me many other times since then. I'm a magnet for strays. I wish there were more people like them. Wonderful, wonderful people. I could go on and on.

For the Love of Cats helped me many times while I lived in Naples, FL. I lived in a rural area that must have been the perfect dumping ground for unwanted cats, many of which showed up at my doorstep... For the Love of Cats either directly helped me rescue these cats and or provided some funds to help do so by paying for spay/neuter surgery and shots for these animals...
For The Love of Cats is a tremendous organization. We adopted 2 kittens from them about 5 years ago. The time, love and dedication that Jan and Jim give to "their" cats is a true reflection of what it really means to care. We visit them often to support the work that they are doing. I did not plan on adoption the day my baby girl, Marissa chose me to be her new mom! Jim was so great moving me through the process. After my 18 year old car died, I adopted a kitten from For the Love of Cats. She had received excellent care and handling, and has been the best cat ever! Their volunteers are the best.

I adopted my beautiful gray and white male kitty Winslow in October 2008. Mr Winslow brings joy to my heart every single day and it was a total meant-to- be adoption. Jan and Jim Rich were encouraging and supportive of this adoption! I think they are the greatest at what they do. They are extremely thorough, caring and simply amazing human beings that have an endless love for the feline population. Their love is contagious as you can see in their wonderful foster staff. We have adopted three cats from The Love of Cats. The last kitty had a health issue that we couldn't afford to take care of. Jim and Jan got an appointment with a specialist in Tampa and took care of everything! Our kitty is 4 years old now and in perfect health thanks to Jim and Jan. They are our heroes!!
About a year and half ago I was searching for a female black cat because our friends had one and I loved "cat sitting" for her. Since this was after the season for black cats, I couldn't find one anywhere. One day I came across the website for "For the Love of Cats" and saw a picture of a female black kitten - I fell in love with the picture. I called and was amazed to find out "Mistral" (now called Misty), was still available, but did not weigh enough to be spayed, so I had to wait two weeks for her - after waiting months to find her, that was no problem. My husband and I drove almost 2 hours in pouring rain to pick her up and we were so impressed with the shelter's cleanliness, spacious cages, and friendly staff. Misty will be 2 on Nov. 1st and she is the best thing we have ever done - she is truly by baby and has brought so much joy to our lives.
When our beloved cat"Sqeeek" passed away after 15 years, we contacted For The Love of Cats. What compassionate and dedicated people they are! They told me of a recently rescued mama cat that had small kittens, and to come to the shelter & visit. HUGE "family cages"- clean, fresh, and little kitties running about everywhere! We were encouraged to join the kittens in the enclosure, and just play and let them be " humanized" What fun it was! We took the runt of that litter- Bella Luna" and she is the sweetest loving cat. We are proud to donate to Jan & Jim's work- and know what a caring impact their work has made to the overpopulation of the cats in our area.
Jim and Jan not only find loving homes for the kittens and cats, they become godparents to them. Anytime you have a concern about your beautiful kitten or cat, they are there for you. I have never met a more loving, concerned couple than these two. They work tirelessly to find homes for and get these cats ready for adoption. They are an amazing couple, and their shelter always a pleasure to visit. Our little girl, now 9 years old, is happy and healthy because of them.

When we decided to adopt some kittens, Jan & Jim personally searched for just the right two kittens, and then followed up with us to make sure we were perfectly satisfied... All along they have been helpful, caring, and very loving. The work they do is unbelievably great... The cats and kittens that have been saved and adopted out to loving homes is incredible. Great people and a great cause! Living on an island, with hotels and people who come and go, there were a lot of cats roaming around. Jim and Jan saw a need, and with the help of a lot of volunteers, many cats have been cared for, given medical treatment and homes. They are very caring people. We recently adopted a sweet mama cat that they took in, and she has been a great addition to our family.

The Love of Cats is a wonderful and dedicated organization that has helped so many cats on Marco Island. They have helped me personally when I rescued a cat that had a severe eye problem. Not only did they help me financially they took him to the vet on several occasions and paid for all of his medical needs. Without them this lovely cat could have lost his eye. Hello, We live on Marco Island and have the good fortune of knowing Jan and Jim Rich. They give of themselves every single day to our community and surrounding communities as well. When I first moved here there were so many stray cats all over the island and it was really sad. Today, I am happy to say, that Jim and Jan have helped these beautiful creatures and today we have a wonderful system in place that saves and helps all the cats on our island...whether to neuter or spay, find wonderful homes, and offer help and comfort when a precious kitty passes away. Most recently my neighbors cat passed away; I took her to Jan and Jim and they had the perfect cat for her. Cici was an older cat who was abandoned. She was shy and scared. For the Love of Cats is providing a wonderful service to our island and the surrounding community. Six years ago, we adopted our two wonderful cats, Martini and Gimlet ( a feral baby) from them. They have converted a three car garage in their home into a first-rate immaculate facility for abandoned, injured and feral cats. All cats are neutered and spayed in cooperation with a local vet. The adult ferals are released back into the community, near where they were found, while the babies are adopted out. Additionally, the released ferals are monitored to be sure that they remain healthy and fed. The time and dedication they provide for the care and well being of these animals is inspiring, invaluable and unbelievably admirable!

I adopted an adult cat from them when I was a Pet Smart just looking at cats and started to talk to them and ended getting a cat. They were so helpful and so dedicated in saving cats. My cat is my big friend, she is so loving. I was so happy with them. I will recommend them to my friends any time.

My boyfriend and I moved to Florida a year ago and we really wanted a pet since we both loved animals. We contacted Jim Rich with For the Love of Cats and he helped us choose the best kitten for us, taking the time to ensure we were a good fit for her as well. Jim even took us around PetSmart filling up our cart with everything KiKi would need to be happy and healthy. They have since called to ask about our adoption and the progress our shy KiKi has made. They were so dedicated they even called us on their vacation while they were out of the country to arrange a meeting with our now perfect little boy Taz. We first met Jim and Jan Rich at a local pet store. We had gone in to buy some cat food and saw the kitties up for adoption. I spoke to Jim about one of the pairs of kittens, Herbie and Haley. They were the only two of a litter and it you separated them, they would cry for each other. The kittens were so healthy and happy, you could tell they were well taken care of. We adopted them both and Jim answered any questions we had about the kittens. He explained that they like to adopt siblings together when possible. We couldn't be happier with the cats, they are such a joy to have. We actually went back a few months later and adopted a tiny little runt Hemingway kitten. She is just a little cuddler. We love all of our cats!
Found both of my kitties at this wonderful shelter, drove from San Carlos Park to get there twice. I was so impressed by the cleanliness, the attention to details, the care that each cat and kittens were given. It was simply amazing. I had rescued another cat from another shelter years before and the difference was startling. It is the only kitty rescue I recommend from now on, sorry you other guys, they are that good.

All of the staff at For The Love Of Cats are fantastic! They are friendly and helpful with any question you may have about cats. Even though my cats were adopted up North, the people at For The Love Of Cats were gracious and responsive when I asked for assistance with finding a cat accessory. My next cat will definitely be adopted from this dedicated group of volunteers!
Jan and Jim Rich at For The Love Of Cats are doing amazing and wonderful things for these precious rescued kittens and cats. We adopted our first two babies from them. Anytime we called with a question or concern as new pet parents, Jan and Jim were always there for help and support. They care about the cats long after they've been adopted and that is true dedication to this cause. Please support them by donating and adopting! I have never believed in giving money to charity in fear of where the money ends up, especially since I don't have very much to give. But this is the only place I manage to scrounge up a good donation for every year because I know the good work they do first hand. When we lost our beloved Catherine, a tuxedo queen, to old age, we were heart broken especially my wife who adorned her Queen. We saw a tuxedo in the Naples Daily newspaper and visited For the Love of Cats and met Jan & Jim.
We were determined to adopt only ONE!!! We were in the open cage and a long hair grey reached out and touched Karen's face, Smokey, our determination was dashed and he won her heart. Later another male tuxedo, Shadow, ignored Karen's petting. Later while we were filling out the adoption papers, we heard a loud meow and a paw was stuck out of the cage, it was Shadow calling out. Jim told us his story of being dumped behind a dumpster, adpoted and returned after 30 days because he was not Loving Enough??? We knew that cats need time and six months after our adpotionl, Shadow was purring and paws up in my arms!!! Karen sent Jan & Jim the picture with caption "NOT LOVING ENOUGH???"
We also found "YoYo" which was the kitty we came for so we left with THREE!!! All our feline family was named by our grand daughter, Isabella.
Karen is now a regular volunteer at the shelter and we can't Thank Jan & Jim & the volunteers for all they do for these wonderful animals.
I am a long distance supporter from New Jersey. I first learned about For the Love of Cats through my sister-in-law Karen. Karen and Pete adopted 3 cats from this wonderful non-profit origination. Karen became a volunteer. On one of Karen's monthly visits she told me about the website and to be sure and check out the KittyCam. Well, to say the least, I was awestruck! Watching the cats and kittens playing in their romper rooms is hilarious and heart lifting. As I delved further into the website and took the virtual tour I was amazed how immaculate and in order everything is. One must stop and think, how much thought processing has gone into this rescue mission. You can truly see the dedication and feel the love poured forth to every kitten and cat that can be reached and nurtured to health and safety.

Over the past several years, I have visited the shelter - For the Love of Cats - and I am always amazed at the work done by the volunteers. The cats and kittens that are rescued receive medical attention, if needed, and care that for some rescued kittens could mean 24 hours of attention. Kittens are found with no mother and need on-going bottle feeding done by the volunteers. The shelter is clean and provides a safe environment for the cats and kittens. The volunteers also provide love and attention for all the rescues and in particular for the shy and frightened ones. This attention helps the cats/kittens to become socialized, which means they can find their forever homes. In 2012, I adopted Casey and he was a mere 5 ounces when found. For the Love of Cats gave him the medical attention, love and care to make him a healthy kitten and adoptable.....good for Casey and lucky for me!

For several years now, I have been aware of the organization For the Love of Cats. They have a wonderful group of dedicated volunteers who rescue and care for the abandoned and feral cats/kittens on Marco Island and the surrounding areas. The cats/kittens receive medical care, loving attention and

I have visited this shelter several times over the years to pet and play with the rescued animals, have made donations to this organization and, best of all, adopted my cat, Casey, last year.
This group deserves praise because they are an excellent organization benefiting cats/kittens in need.
As a volunteer, it is amazing to see first hand the love and dedication of all those involved with for the Love of Cats. Imagine 2 day old kittens, abandoned, no mother, and having to be bottle fed every 4 hours day and night for weeks! And then imagine the very lucky folks who adopted each of them, what love those kittens will give back every moment of their lives! Every cat and kitten that comes through this shelter gets the same devoted attention, day and night. Now we truly understand why the 3 cats we adopted from them 6 years ago are the most loving animals we have ever had.

I spend six months in Marco Island since I retired in 2010. When I learned about the nonprofit located in the island my decision was to read and get well informed about it. For the Love of Cats is a wonderful organization that take care of cats, never killing them but working very hard to keep them healthy, bring them back to health when injured and getting them ready for adoption.

My wife and I were looking for another cat to join our household, as we had recently lost our 20 year old tabby. We saw a picture in the local paper of a cat to be adopted, and I knew she was the one to be part of our family. I completed an application and was contacted by Jim Rich from For The Love Of Cats. We spoke and I eventually went to the shelter to see the cat. I was amazed at the facility. It is so clean and the people are all so caring. I brought "Cuddles" home a couple days later She has brought so much joy to my wife and I, as well as our other 2 cats. She simply adores "Jeter", our big handsome male. They play together, sleep together, and she follows him around and imitates him. They are so great together. Thank you, Jan and Jim!

For the Love of Cats is an amazing organization that does amazing work. Jim & Jan and the entire staff are loving and deeply committed to every kitten and cat that comes through their doors. I adopted two adorable fur babies and then when a stray started coming to my house for food, I gave the a call and they tracked her to where she had hidden her four, just weeks old, kittens and rescued all five of them. I then started visiting the momma and her babies at FTLOC to spend time with them and to watch their progress. I ended up adopting momma and one of her babies. Now, all four of my cats are a part of my family and my husband and I can't imagine life without them. My husband says 6 is the limit so I still have two more to go!
When I retire, I tell Jim & Jan, that I will become a volunteer and spend my days helping them in them in their mission and satisfying my need for more kitties to snuggle!
I have had the good fortune to adopt a wonderful 10 year old cat named Lily from this outstanding organization, and in the process I visited their impressive facilities on Marco Island and met several of their volunteers, as well as the principals, Jan and Jim. Any cat or kitten who is rescued by them is extremely lucky. The professional and loving care the cats are given and the pristine conditions in which they are housed are truly special. They are given all the veterinary care and personal attention that one would want to give to one's own pet. The volunteers are dedicated and truly enjoy their time at the facilities, including specific interaction and playtime with all the rescue cats and kittens. FLC is the BEST and ONLY cat rescue organization I have ever encountereed in over 20 years of being involved in cat rescue in several different states that can be counted on to help when a cat or kitten in need crosses my path. All the others will tell you to call other groups, are perpetually "full", have years long waiting lists, only take "owner giveups", never return calls, or have some other reason why they can never help when needed. I did hands on rescue for many years and know the time, stress, financial strain, and sheer exhaustion involved in this work. Never have I heard a peep from FLC about these issues, only of their love, commitment and willingness to help the many animals who need them on a daily basis. Hurray for Jan and Jim Rich and this remarkable organization they have created!

When I originally join the shelter I was only expecting to get the volunteer hours and be done with it. But as time passed by my intentions at the shelter changed. Not only has going to the shelter helped hundreds of cats but it also helped myself and made me grow as a person. I won't forget my experience there for it was honestly one of the best times of my life.
AFTER FINDING A WONDERFUL CAT AT THE NAPLES SHELTER JUST BEFORE SHE WOULD HAVE BEEN DESTROYED, WE DISCOVERED THAT " FOR THE LOVE OF CATS " ON MARCO ISLAND WAS WORKING TO SAVE MANY OF THE CATS THAT OTHER ORGANIZATIONS COULD NO LONGER HELP. For the Love of Cats is the gold standard of pet rescues. They have spent many years doing their best to reduce the feral and free roaming cats on Marco Island and elsewhere with TNR and their efforts have had a very positive effect there. They also help other local cat rescue groups in different areas of Collier County, too.
They have not only worked successfully with other local rescue groups, but with local govt animal control and made some big changes there, all the better for the cats. They have also helped move local legislation through to make TNR legal in Collier County.
Their adoptions every week at PetSmart really move those kittens and Adult Cats out of cages and into lifelong loving homes, and they are scrupulous about adopting into good homes only, not just any home. They have also rescued and fostered so, so many cats and kittens, nursing them back to health and eventual adoption.
They are meticulous in their care of cats and kittens, supportive of other local groups, and are just a pleasure to work with in any capacity. They are the very best in this field--and they are all volunteers!
The passion and commitment of the dedicated volunteers at For The Love of Cats has produced many very "LUCKY" cats over the past 12 years!
Who would have thought that such a charity on a small island in southwest Florida could 'claw' its way into the hearts of so many of us!

An acquaintance cheated death by rescuing a kitten that was toss out of a car - This kitten was dehydrated, had road rash/burns, chipped teeth and non-stop crying. Can you imagine the fear this kitten experienced. My acquaintance asked me for help ~ I received help for this terrified kitten from The Love of Cats !!! Their magnificent facility and caring volunteers restored 'Petey' to a healthy kitten and best of all found him a forever home. Jim & Jan Rich and their staff are the best !!!

Three years ago we lost our beautiful Boo. A hero, faithful friend, caregiver when ill and constant companion. We just stopped by for Love of Cats to glance. Let me rephrase. I made my husband go by as his heart was still completely broke. You see Boo sat with my husband on the weekends in a sand chair and had breakfast with him every weekend watching the sun come up; enjoyed football games with him and slept with us. He was adamant about not having any more cats. He looked away while I was looking at the kittens. I choose two brothers. By evening my husband had both on his chest having them purring loud and clear. We still think of Boo every day but with Barnstable and Frederick we have lots of fun and laughter is abundant. They have created their own shelter in a beautifully appointed former 3-car garage of their home and they have a dedicated crew of volunteers who help care for the cats. Their adoptions take place in PetSmart in Naples. They also work with the Humane Society Naples (of which I am a Board member) to promote adoption of our cats as well. I have known this well-run organization for nearly all of the 20 years I have lived in Naples, Florida, and I have the utmost respect for Jan and Jim Rich and the way they run their shelter. The cats they adopt out have get the kindest hands-on care that is not usually available in a shelter environment.
About 2 years ago I adopted a cat from their organization..their facility was unbelieveable..not just clean but so great for each cat/kitten they take in...each cat is in their own giant 2 compartment cage and they have plenty of medical attention, food/ water and toys...they play with them all day some of the older cats are out with them on comfortable chairs etc...and kittens socialize with them and eachother. it is just like being home for them...the entire process of adopting is very professional and if for any reason you change your mind Jan and Rich insist you bring the cat back to them....they are very available and tireless in their quest to make sure these kittens and cats are placed in ONLY LOVING FOREVER HOMES. My beloved 13 year old cat had died and I was looking to adopt. I went to their shelter for cats. It is not a shelter but more of a home. It is so clean and beautiful and the cats are basically treated like this is their home for life. Everyone is so caring and understanding of the animals and the humans who come to adopt. They make sure whoever is adopting is ready to adopt for LIFE. If you are ever looking to give to a charity this is the one. It is wonderful what Jan and Rich are doing for unwanted cats and kittens. The old ones will probably stay there happy until the day they die of old age with dignity surrounded by love.
Jim and Jan Rich did what no one else was willing or able to do--they worked tirelessly with great volunteers to clean up the feral cat population in our community via a TNR program that has been amazingly successful. Their volunteers feed an ever-smaller number of outdoor cats as the population shrinks. Now their focus is on finding homes for kittens and cats that come farther afield. Their facilities are clean and nice and their volunteers are too :-D I know many of them as friends and clients and love their devotion and the joy they receive from helping out.

I had moved myself and my dog to Florida from New Mexico. We had left family, both pets and humans. My dog was used to his cousins and he fell into a depression being away from family while I was at work. I met "For the Love of Cats" at Pet Smart. I told the gentleman who was in charge of the kitties my dilemma with my dog and what "kind" of a cat I would like. He brought out Petey. Petey was a year old, black and white with golden eyes. I was told of his personally, what he liked, how he behaved and other bits of personal knowledge. We took him home for a trail to make sure he would fit with us. His personally was the perfect fit for us. I love petey. He is very loving, gets along with any dog that walks in the door, is very tolerant to children and babies. He never hiss's, bites or scratches. Never has he ruined any furniture, sprayed or climbed curtains. The fact that "For the Love of Cats" knew peteys personally and was able to make the perfect fit for us all was very appreciated. I am so grateful to "For the Love of Cats". When I adopted Petey he was current with all his shots and worming. Petey is the perfect addition to our family. Him and Poncho are very good friends. If we ever add another kitty to our home, I will go back to "For the Love of Cats". Their commitment to kitty's is impressive, the knowledge of the kitty's is personally is a great plus. It was amazing to have such a perfect cat come into our lives and fit so well with no effort. I do not feel that would of been possible without the love and care that this organization puts into their program.
Two of our three cats are from For the Love of Cats and they are beautiful, amazing, socialized, kind animals that have been nothing but an absolute gift and joy to have in our family. The staff and volunteers at For the Love of Cats are people truly care about the work they are doing and the animals they care for. This great organization on Marco Island has taken in the stray cats, feeds them, neuters them, gets their required immunizations up to date, and there is one big family at their shelter. We adopted two of their cats over tens years ago, and have had great times with the two cats. When people ask us where we got our cats, we tell them from the Love of Cats on Marco Island. They are the most dedicated people dealing with cats that we have ever known. A remarkable organization.

I met Jim and Jan while volunteering at the Humane Society in Naples. They are two of the most amazing people I have ever met and their mission is so honorable and heartfelt. They are truly dedicated to their cause and they go above and beyond to save homeless kitties. They often take some of the HS kitties to showcase them at Petsmart and I am always amazed how some of our longer term kitties are adopted through Jim and Jan. I really can't say enough good things about For the Love of Cats. The incredible commitment that Jan and Jim have for the cats has surpassed anything I have ever seen in a non-profit organization. Everything they do is for these cats. And every cent of funding is for the cats. I could only be there for a short time, but the dedication I saw there was really a life changer for me. From Jan and Jim to the volunteers, all were people who devoted everything possible to giving these cats a chance in life. I have never met a group of people I have more admiration for.

I have been volunteering for the last few years at For the Love of Cats on Marco Island. Jan and Jim Rich go above and beyond to care for and find loving homes for these cats in need. They have a volunteer staff that plays with gives loving, medicates if needed, feeds the cats as well as cleaning the cages, doing laundry and sweeping the floors. I can't say enough about these two people who do all they can do for the cats. If I was a cat I would be very happy to spend time at this shelter!
At the end of last June my wife and I lost our Cat Cleo as a result of kidney failure one week before her eighteenth birthday. Needless to say we were pretty devastated. We agonized for at least a month about what we might do to fill the emptiness we were experiencing both emotionally and even in our daily lifestyle. Coincidentally, an article appeared in the "animal" section of our local newspaper about two unrelated "rescue" cats who had become inseparable when Jan decided to have them room together! Along with the article was a picture of these two which captured our attention. Within a week we made the decision that this beautiful couple needed us as much as we needed them and so they were adopted and we not looked back.
I should also indicate that we had been very aware of For The Love of Cats as a result of their extensive and incredibly effective work to mitigate a significant feral cat situation in our island community many years ago. We cannot say enough to capture the humane and professional expertise practiced by this organization, its devoted volunteers, and, of course, its principals.
I don't know of a more dedicated couple from my former home in Maine to our home in Florida than Jan and Jim Rich. They helped us with our senior cat which they directed in our direction and even to our feral cat Louie that we cared for over 8 years. They devote weekends to placing cats and kittens at a local pet store. There is NO WAY to describe the dedication of Jan and Jim Rich. You would have to see them and their dedication first hand to appreciate the daily love they give to kittens and to our 12 year old Leo whom we adopted. Five years ago I gave to a national organization for animals and found it was not being used for what I intended . I found my name had been given to 18 other groups asking for donations. When I met Jan and Jim and the loyal volunteers that worked for them , I knew that what little I could donate would be used wisely. Other groups could learn from their success.
My niece is a volunteer at the cat shelter and she just beams with pride to be a part of it. I have visited on several occasions and I am so impressed with the dedication of the volunteers there. It is so clean and all of the kittens receive so much affection. These kittens are the friendliest I have ever seen. The kittens return lots of love to their future owners because of the care that they receive at this wonderful shelter .

We adopted two beautiful 5 year old Persians from For The Love of Cats last year. We were amazed at the cleanliness and care in the shelter. Many volunteers available to clean and play with the cats. The twins we brought home were rescued in order to keep them together and make sure they survived. For The Love of Cats is a no kill shelter so all cats are guaranteed a well cared for life. I speak from personal experiece when say For the Love of Cats is a wonderful facility. My 13 year old cat passed away over a year ago. I intended to wait awhile before getting another one. I had heard about For theLove of Cats and decided to go there to just start looking. I was so impressed with the facility and Jim and Jan were so helpful. I ended up adopting Sabrina and taking her home later that day.
If anyone is thinking of adopting a kittren or adult cat I highly recommend For the Love of Cats. So many kittens and cats are looking for a "forever" home and it just might be yours!

Jan and Rich are tireless and selfless in their efforts to rescue, place, and spay/neuter homeless cats and kittens. Homeless doesn't always mean "dumped". Homeless also means cats that have been surrendered for a variety of reasons....financial difficulty, health issues, moving to a home that is not pet friendly are just a few of these reasons. I have adopted from Jan and Rich, and I have called them in a panic when I didn't think I could take my beloved pets with me. I can now support them with a small(very small) monthly donation... and it is worth every other corner I must cut.
We adopted a 2 year old cat named Poppie from The Love of Cats and have been in love with their continued support for her. A week after we took her home they called and wanted to know how she was adjusting. They said the folks who donate their time there were all missing her since she was so sweet. We make a point of going to visit Jim and Jan on the weekends and just know their love for these stray cats is true and never ending. We also support their fund raisers as well. God Bless them for the time and energy they have in helping these cats find loving homes!!!!
This is a very good program because they go around collecting cats because they don't want them to wondering around all the time looking for food and fighting for there lives when they want them to have a good home and a good enviorment to live in. and i want a kitten they are so cute!
How do you begin to thank an organization like For The Love of Cats and it's two dedicated Directors Jan and Jim Rich for all they do in the rescue and rehabilitation of so many cats and kittens. The love and genuine care given to these amazing creatures who have been lucky enough to be found by them never ceases to amaze me. They also have a fabulous group of volunteers.
Our family was adopted by two of those rescues, first in 2008 when we brought Tabitha home and then again in 2009, when we brought Mu Mu home. They have found their forever home with us and we have For The Love of Cats to thank for that.
We adopted Oliver (tuxedo cat) 3 yrs ago from The Love Of Cats. He was rescued by Jan and Rich and had a very extensive case of ringworm. Through the time, love, and holistic approach to his condition by everyone involved Oliver was cured. I think if it were another organization Oliver would not be here. That would have been such a loss as we love him so much and he loves us. He sleeps with us like a baby at night. He is such an important part of our family.
When we first adopted him we thought he had a medical problem and we actually called Jan and Rich at 1 am with our concerns. They took our call with a smile and worked with us to figure out what the problem was. Oliver had to be in a cage and confined from the other cats for 7 months. The night we called them was the first time we gave him the run of the house. He was running and jumping all around for the first time and became dehydrated.

I have visited the shelter several times and was very impressed by the love, devotion, and professionalism that all of the volunteers and the owners demonstrate. For the Love of Cats on Marco Island has changed my life. I moved to Florida in 1/2012 when my job transfered me from Ohio. I have always been a pet lover and have had cats and dogs my whole life as part of our family. I had to leave not only my children back in Ohio who are all finally out of school but also my beloved cat and dog there. I soon became very lonely and depressed here in Florida. I finally made the decision to adopt a cat. When I met Jan and Jim at their cat palace on Marco Island I knew I would be leaving with a new family member and companion. There were so many adorable cats and kittens that I found it hard to decide which one to take home with me. I originally wanted an adult cat because of the long commute I have to work each day but finally decided on a kitten. Jim and Jan let me hold and play with the kittens to make sure I would be a good fit for them. They also insisted with the kittens that I take 2 from the same litter so they would not get lonely. I have had Ash and Scarlet now since they were 4 months old and they have most definetly changed my life. I agree that it would not have been right to just take one of them. They play, and romp, and groom each other for hours. They sleep in each others arms. They have brought me so much laughter and joy that I finally feel that I can make it here without my human family. These two kittens are the joy of my life now and it is all because of the Love that Jan and Jim have for these beautiful cats and kittens.
Before becoming a volunteer with this organization I was unaware of the many great things they do. The kittens and cats brought into the shelter are treated like family and so are the volunteers who help out. I think that because of the true love and care that goes on at the shelter is due to the sucesses. The organization cares so much about these animals it makes my heart melt. I am so happy I have joined this shelter.

We lost our beloved Sherman. We were heart broken. After two months of sleepless nights, (no purring in my ear) and a very quiet house we decided enough of this. We had heard from our friend who lives on Marco about For the Love of Cats and the relentless care for the homeless cats in the area. I contacted Jan, told her our situation and what we would like for our pet. She said I'll get back to you, I have a couple of cats that come to mind...The next day we received the call, went to the first foster home to see if we had a match. It was love at first sight for us and Stash...
We took him to our Veterinarian immediately. She said he's in excellent health, asked where we found him. When we told her, "she said I've heard of their rescue efforts for cats. They are known all over the state."
Our Stash is wonderful, he brings joy to us every day.
It is wonderful what Love of Cats are doing. I adopted Cider to be a companion to the cat I already had. He was also a rescue from California. I love my "job". It is so much fun taking care and loving all the cats and kittens that come to the shelter. It's sad to kiss them good-bye but very rewarding knowing they are going to a new, loving home. Jim and Jan make this all possible with their dedication and knowledge. Living in a condo on Marco we were restricted to how many animals we could have. We already had a dog and parrot. I met a wonderful volunteer who told me about the shelter. I applied and was accepted as a volunteer. Now for 7 years I have been getting my kitty fix every week! And the 2 people I work with are the best! We have all been together for 7 years!
This is an incredible organization. Jan and Jim have dedicated their lives and finances to help the cat population in the Marco/Naples area. Everything is done for the good of the animal regardless of the time, cost, and care required. They have a group of dedicated volunteers who help out. For the Love of Cats is an all volunteer organization that rescues abandoned cats and kittens, takes care of their medical needs, socializes them, sterilizes them and finally adopts them to forever homes. The owners, board and volunteers are dedicated to the mission and making sure that all the animals in our shelter get the best care possible. For the Love of Cats also does trap, neuter, return for feral cats and maintains the colonies to ensure the feral cats are healthy and well fed. Partnerships with the local humane society, county animal control, veterinarians and other shelters have created a like minded community of animal welfare volunteers who work together on behalf of the animals. For the Love of Cats is a fabulous organization made up entirely of volunteers who work tirelessly 7X24X365 to rescue, care for and ultimately find new homes for abandoned and homeless cats and kittens. A variety of fundraisers are held throughout the year to support the mission of the shelter and to take care of the animals. Every dollar raised goes right back to the animals. We have strong relationships with other shelters, the Naples Humane Society, the community and local businesses that allow us to care for hundreds of animals every year.
After losing my beloved cat I decided to volunteer. I was afraid it would be a sad experience. It turned out to be the best thing. Jan and Jim and all the volunteers are like a family. They give the cats and kittens wonderful care and lots of love. I always leave the shelter with a spring in my step. One of these days I leave with a cat.
There is proof of Angels walking among us and they are in SW Florida. I tip my hat to everyone in the organization for all of your hard work and time spent. My cat Taz was rescued back in 1999. Since then I've done everything possible to give him a happy healthy life. Recently he was diagnosed with kidney stones that were blocking him. He had to undergo a horrible operation called a Urethrostomy to open up his tubes so they would pass. It cost a fortune. Since he is like one of my kids I had to help him. About 7 months later he got really sick again from an infection related and I was flat broke out of work and would have been forced to put him down because he refused to take oral medication! Pills or liquid. This cat is strong. He knows the rolling up in the towel trick all to well. Only the vet mega antibiotic shot would suffice. I called a bunch of vets offering to make payments if they would only help my poor cat. Not one would. The fact of the matter is that if you are broke you DIE! Human or cat apparently. The human society offered to kill him. Someone suggested I look into asking the rescue agencies for help. That's when For the Love Of Cats came into the picture. They helped me like champions and Taz, Pixie and I love them for it! They helped save my little brother and I'll never forget it. There still is some humanity in the world. . .
For The Love of Cats Inc is a wonderful organization. My fiance and I had been looking to make a new addition to our family and had been to countless shelters looking for the perfect kitty for our family, but couldn't seem to find the right fit. While traveling down to Key Largo from Sarasota we decided to stop by the Naples Humane Society to see a kitten we had seen on Petfinder.com. This was where we met Jim, founder of For The Love of Cats. We checked out the kitten from petfinder but she didn't seem to have much of a personality (which was essential because we wanted to be sure that our current cat would get along with our new addition). Jim introduced us to some of the kittens he had brought in from his shelter and I had never experienced such lovable kittens in my entire life. We fell in love with two black kittens (a brother and sister named Ming and Suki) and ended up taking them home with us to Sarasota. When we went to pick them up at Jim and Jan's home (and shelter), I was so impressed with the facility and could tell that every one of their cats is well taken care of. Every kitten I held never stopped purring and shows how committed they are to ensuring that their foster families are chosen with care and in the best interest of their kittens. We cannot thank them enough for bringing our babies (now named Brynja and Baldur) into our lives and would highly recommend their organization to others looking for a life-long companion.
Every animal that comes through the door to this little shelter is treated as a member of our family, I have been a volunteer since 2003 and have personally seen the amount of time and concern the directors and volunteers give to their shelter. No matter what the condition of the cat, nor the age, nor its "story", every animal receives stellar vet care, good food and much love and lots of handling. We all strive to get to know each and every one of them so that when they are adopted out, their new family has a good idea of their personalities. This little shelter is an oasis and a haven for some of the most frightened and ill cats; who come to understand that they are safe and warm, clean and loved. We have had feral cats, injured cats, abandoned cats and loads of strays and all are welcomed with open arms. The true test of what we do is when a frightened animal finally realizes that you are there to help and that animal gently places its paws on your face and nuzzles you as their acceptance of we humans. There is no greater feeling. For The Love of Cats also is very active in the community educating people on the care of their animals, helping out those who have animal concerns, or need some one-on-one help. We also have a senior adoption program and are committed to county-wide TNR efforts. This is a wonder place --not only for the animals, but also for we volunteers.
I found a kitten in the back of a pick-up truck in the parking lot of where I work. His paws were burned and so were his whiskers. I brought him home and took him directly to the vet. My husband was not keen on keeping him since we had 4 other cats. I called around to other charities and they flatly told me that they could not help because they were full. I can't imagine a charity that won't help, especially a kitten that is injured. I even offered to pay his medicial. I finally called For The Love of Cats and they immediately told me that they would take the kitten and find him a good home even though they were to the max. I felt so relieved that someone listened to me and wanted to help. As it turns out, my husband warmed to the kitten and we kept him and named him Lucky. I will always appreciate the kindness shown to me by the staff at For The Love of Cats.
I tried for months to trap a beautiful beige mixed Siamese cat we called Big Boy at our condo. He was the father of many litters across the street at the commercial mall and no one had been able to catch him. Many kittens were rescued and the mother spayed. Fed him every morning but could not get him to go in the trap day after day. A wonderful man from Love of Cats helped me get him with a simple drop trap. We sat in the van, and Big Boy came along as usual. In 5 minutes we had him in the trap. We ran over to secure the trap. He was then neutered and released. I felt really good about helping Big Boy and doing something to help the feral cat population - there because of irresponsible cat owners.
For the Love of Cats is terrific. They go above and beyond to make sure both the cat and the adopter have a great experience. They truly believe in what they are doing. I would recommend them to anyone.They have done an outstanding job rescuing and controlling population in the Naples-Marco Island area.
For The Love of Cats cares about the animals. They do everything within their means to make sure that all cats have a safe, healthy and loving home. They always have the cats best interest first and foremost, and have dedicated their lives to caring for cats. They have always been so helpful to us by giving us their advice and suggestions to help our cats when needed. We can't thank them enough for all of the help and support they have given us over the years.
I adopted two kitties three years ago and loved the entire experience working with For the Love of Cats. The operation is so professional and well run and without exception, from the very first moment, every cat that comes through their doors is loved and cared for. I then had a very young stray tabby that came to my house looking for food. She was tiny and hungry and so starved for attention, after about a month, she came right up to me . It was then I saw she had kittens on her! I contacted For the Love of Cats, who brought several volunteers to track her back to her kittens and then worked for almost three days to get all four of the kittens out from under a shed. They made sure all were healthy and we adopted the mother (after all, she found us!) and one of her kittens. The other three were quickly adopted as well. I tell my friends that once I retire, they'll be able to find me at the shelter and I will come home every night, happy and loaded with cat hair! This is truly a top notch nonprofit organization and worthy of every kudo and accolade available.

I was called to go & get a kitten that was tossed out of a moving car. Kitten was in poor condition ~ I took kitten to my local vet for medical treatment. That's where I met Jan from For the Love of Cats. She took this kitten to her facility and nursed kitty back to health and found a FOREVER home for this teeny helpless kitten ! For The Love of Cats Inc, Marco Island was responsible for helping me find my cat. My beloved Himalayan escaped thru an open lanai door. We searched for days. We contacted all local authorities, shelters, and For the Love of Cats. Weeks passed. We were convinced we would never see Joey again. One day I received a call that a member of For Love of Cats found a cat that looked like our boy. I had a few false alarms from other agencies, individuals, etc. These looked like but never were our Joey. I raced over to their beautiful facility and to my amazement, they had my Joey. I am so grateful. Their networking and valiant efforts saved yet another life.

I am a volunteer at For The Love Of Cats. It is one of the most freindliest and fun shelters to work for. I had the pleasure of meeting Jan and Jim Rich with The Love of Cats on Marco Island at the Pet Smart on Pine Ridge Road. They are two of the nicest people, totally committed to rescuing cats and volunteering their time. I first called and spoke to Jim and told him I was looking for an orange male kitten. He was most helpful and referred me to Phyllis of VSA, another really nice woman who volunteers her time on Sundays at Pet Smart. I ended up adopting a little guy who was found in a culvert and turned in by a very nice man. This little kitten is the most affectionate, loving little soul. He actually puts his paws and cups your face and then can't clean you enough. I can speak from experience when you adopt a kitten who was rescued, there is no more loyal, appreciate little kitten.Jim and Jan Rich should be commended with their untiring work with The Love of Cats on Marco Island. I also needed a referral to a good vet and I called Jim for a referral. He referred me to Harborside in Naples and that was after being at two previous vets in the area. He was right on with this referral. They were great. Thank you so much Jim and Jan Rich for all that you do for the kittens and cats.
My experience as a client with For the Love of Cats was more than I ever could have asked for! When I walked by the adoption set up at Pet Smart I had absolutely no intentions of adopting a kitten, but I just could not pass by this little orange tabby sticking his paw out of the cage. Once I held him, I imediately fell in love. The staff was extremely friendly and seemed to have a great deal of knowledge of cats. When I drove down to pick up little "Sunny" from the adoption center after impatiently waiting a week for him to be fixed, I was overwhelmed with the pure kindness and welcoming feeling from all of the staff! Although I had grown up with cats, this was the first kitten of my OWN. Originally I was pretty nervous about bringing home our new kitten to our 2 playful dogs, but all of my stresses were immediately eliviated with immense amount of valuable advice the staff had to offer me. They were able to answer all of my questions and THEN some, and made me feel completely at ease. But their kindness does not end there! A month later we had a poor stray kitten wonder to our door during a horrible lightning storm. Even though we already had 2 dogs AND our new kitten, there was no way we could just leave this kitten to fend for itself. Short on funds, and worried about how we would afford to get all of the stray's medical expenses taken care of, For the Love of Cats once again extended their hand of kindness. They helped take care of all of "Sam's" medical screening and shots, so we were able to make sure he was a healthy addition to our animal family. Now ALL of our animals are happily living, playing, and terrorizing our house together, and we could not be any happier! THANK YOU to ALL of the staff at For the Love of Cats for helping us bring more LOVE in to our home. :)
8 years ago we moved to naples. My now husband stopped in to Petsmart as a surprise for me because he knew I wanted to get a cat. He spoke with the people with for the love of cats (Jim and jan) and looked around. After talking with them they told him to come back the next day because they had the perfect cats for me. Long story short we still have them today. Jim and jan have helped us transition the cats to 2 new babies in our family and are still willing to help us with any questions we have. Without them a lot of animals would not get a second chance. They love what they do and have helped many animals over the years. What this organization does for cats is truly amazing.
As fa as I know, this organization relies 100% on private contributions and volunteers to control in a humane way the populationof feral, abandoned, and unwanted cats and kittens by a program of "Trap, Neuter, Release" for ferals, and placements with adopters for kittens and homeless housecats. Neutered ferals are fed by volunteers so they don't need to kill songbirds to survive. All adoptable cats and kittens are neutered and fitted with an ID chip before being adopted out. Beside being donors, my family has adopted two kittens from this shelter. This is a very worthwhile charity.
We adopted our beautiful cats Sadie from For the Love of Cats. When my friend and I initiated a cat rescue on Marco Island to trap the many strays that would beg for food at some of the hotels on the Island, we asked and received so much help from FOR THE LOVE OF CATS' volunteers. When we could no longer participate, they continued on virtually "cleaning up" most of Marco's strays - and they did it with love and kindness, finding homes for those that could be adopted out and trapping and spaying/neutering those who couldn't- virtually guaranteeing there would not be a proliferation of innocent strays. There is no better way to help them carry out their important and compassionate work than to donate or volunteer.
Amazing rescue group, the dedication and care that Love of Cats gives for the welfare of our beloved feline population in South Florida. The love of Cats is just that, love of Cats! So many wonderful cats and kittens have found forever loving homes because of this organization. They do their best to work with other shelters in the area to see that all cats and kittens have a chance to be adopted and saved from a cruel existance on the streets or end up being euthanized. Wonderful organization!
I used to volunteer at a cat rescue in Naples, Fl. I had heard of for the Love of Cats and saw them often when I purchased pet food at the local pet store where the adopt. About 5 years ago we adopted a kitten from my rescue ...on the way home we stopped at this same pet store to pick up a new litter box. My sons directly went to play with the kittens and For The Love Of cats graciously let Dillon hold a greay kitten, similar in size to the kitten I just adopted.( it was in the car with my husband and other son.) I never adopt anything on a whim...but the kitten was precious, the cages were clean, and the thoroughness of the group, not to mention their genuine love for the cats, made our decision easy. We carried Pooka out to the car...my husband was a tad shocked, but warmed up to the idea quickly when he saw how the two played so nicely. Follow up and genuine love continues to thrive with this organization. Thank you for our Pooka and all you do Jan and Rich!
We got Martha and Maxwell from Jim while he was at Petsmart and they are such a great addition to our family! Jim was so great in answering all of our questions and making sure that they were the right fit for us! They fit in perfect with our 3 kids and we all love them so much! Thank you!
Changed from another local vet on the advise of Love of Cats. Never had reason to regret that choice. It is always a pleasure to talk and consult with For the Love of Cats staff on concerns/questions about my cats when out at PetSmart or by phone. Bravo !
We were not thinking about adopting another cat but we where shopping for pet supplies and ran into this organization. Of course i had to pick up one of their cats actually kitten and i never put him down. He was so sociable and the best temperament. He didn't scratch, bit or chew on mybody. He just loved being held. He is now a year and a half and the best cat we have had. He came home to an older brother and had no problem adjusting. The owners of this group is truly there for the animals and that shows ten fold. They offered to clip claws without charge. Gave me some toys and food. I just can't say enough about Jlm and Jan the owners.
Mr. Mann, formerally owned by Jan and Jim "For the Love of Cats Inc." decided one day we were the ones he wanted to live with. We saw him one day while at Pets Smart, and unbeknown to me, my husband fell in love with him. So for three days my husband had a long face and wouldn't tell me what was wrong. By the fourth day I had had it and demanded he tell me. Well it seems he thought old Mr. Mann (then known to Jan and Jim as Fletcher Christian-first mate on The Bounty) since he was so banged up from being on his own for one year my husband likened him to what he would be if left on his own. Jan and Jim took this old bedraggled cat into their care, fixed his sores, vaccinated, neutered, etc. him. Their continued care for newly born to the oldest is to be commended. They treat all equally. Medicine, food, plenty of TLC, super clean quarters while waiting to be adopted. Jan and Jim, et al are a caring, giving, compassionate, fair organization although I would rather liken to a family fully dedicated to cats of all ages, sizes and kind. Mr. Mann has been with us now for 1 1/2yrs.
We first encountered For The Love of Cats at our local Petsmart store one weekend three years ago. It was then that we chose a wonderful Northen Grey kitten, Mickey. The follow up by these folks was great.We brought him back for some shots as requested and were told we could bring him for nail clipping whenever we want. A year later we went back and another group from the Humane Society was also there. Even though the cat we chose was from this group's adoptees Jim from TLOC couldn't of been more helpful in showing the cat and helping to process the paperwork. Jim and Jan do a great job as do all their committed volunteers.

We adopted our oldest cat from this organization. They went out of their way to help this cat that had been abandoned and find him a new home. The cats are all treated with such care and affection. The group is a part of our community and makes sure all the adopted cats are still being treated well. They emphasized to me, if the adoption should not work out, they would take our cat back. The follow up is wonderful, which is very important in finding suitable homes The Riches work tirelessly to help feral cats as well. They neuter them and then release them back into the area where they were found, which is a much kinder choice than leaving them in a cage the rest of their lives. This is an organization that gives most of the donations collected back to the charity, they keep- their overhead to a minimum so as to help the cats as much as possible. There is so much dedication, love and passion going to help the cats, that I feel this charity deserves to be given the Top - Rated Non;profit award.
I adopted Bella, my beautiful Maine Coon cat, from For the Love of Cats in April 2012. I was so impressed with Jan and Jim's operation from the moment I walk in the door of their clinic/shelter. There were volunteers everywhere and of course, lots of cats and kittens. I wanted to take them all home, but I could only take one. Jan and Jim Rich have poured their hearts and souls into For the Love of Cats. They take in these poor strays that are sometimes near the brink of death and nurse them back to health with proper medical care and lots of love. When they rescued my cat, Bella, they said she was full of flea bites and parasites. They took such good care of her - I cannot thank them enough for that! I would highly recommend anyone adopting a cat or kitten from For the Love of Cats. It is a well run organization with people that truly care!
It is very nice to have organizations like this, if every person helps in any way ,is better than nothing , the point is educate people about pets,and be a responsible owner... that is the hard part to educate ,but is not impossible .
I purchased 2 kittens from For The Love Of Cats. Jim was very helpful in helping me decide what to do because I was going to only get 1 kitten as a companion for my older cat. They were running a buy one get one free deal so I got 2 beautiful kittens that my husband and I love dearly.
I must state first as I have in the past that this organization is one of the most well run I have ever encountered. Jan and Jim and their volunteers keep a consistent balance of efficiency and compassion in their endeavors. Once more they helped with a starving and sickly white cat who showed up in my yard... With their help this poor boy turned into an absolutely beautiful, regal, soft spoken kitty ready for a home. I run into folks all over our area who can't say enough good about what they are doing to help unfortunate cats in need.

Jan and JIm Rich are wonderful folks. They helped us trap, spay and neuter 2 feral cats who live in our neighborhood. My husband experienced a traumatic brain injury while coaching high school hockey and we had a series of dramatic and unexpected changes in our lives at the time. . These 2 cats have now lived together in our yard and eat good food and drink clean water on our porch (for over 2 years). They cannot be socialized to live in a dwelling but they do live happily outside and one lets us pet his head... Another time I found a litter of feral kittens in the thick brush in our side yard. We have many natural predators in our area and I captured the kittens , thanks again to Jan and Jim lending me a trap, AND they took the time to come out and take the kittens and care for them in their facility.. what more can be said.. they are just nice and very efficient at what they do.. St Francis of Assisi would be proud of them!!
A month after our cat passed away I visited For The Love Of Cats and after talking with Jan and Jim and interacting with the cats I chose Misti. She was about a year old and was abandoned. They were very patient with me and explained the personality of each cat. Misti was very nervous and afraid but now she is calm and loving and we do not know what we would do without her. She is playful and fun. She keeps us young. Jan and Jim cared for her after volunteers feeding feral cats noticed how friendly she was and they brought her to The Love Of Cats just for us to adopt.

I was in 2008 a volunteer 'For the Love of cats' and had a wonderful experience with everyone there but most of all from all the kittens, who gave me so much love I needed and they needed...it was a true pleasure and I will treasure , Jan & Jim ,all the volunteers and kitties in my heart forever .....!! It is/was a unique life experience ! Marco Islands' For the Love of Cats is an inspiring example of what a committed group can achieve. Under the direction of Jan and Jim Rich, their dedicated volunteers provide a delightful facility for the homeless and stray cats and kittens on Marco Island and in the surrounding communities. Under their loving care, hundreds of lost, sick and abandoned kitties are being restored to health and placed in permament homes every year. I urge you to support this organization.
I stop by and see Jim and Jan in Petsmart when I am shopping for my 3 rescue cats. I have watched them interact with cats and people. I know that they are dedicated to finding the best & safest homes possible for their kittens and cats. There is no price tag for the amount of TLC that they give to each cat and they time that they spend nurturing the kittens and soothing the older cats. I know that it takes money - lots of money - for care and medical attention of these cats. I have a choice where I can donate. I know that my donation goes to these rescue cat and kittens, not advertising. I can see that Jim and Jan make a difference, I want to help them continue to be successful in doing what they do best - rescue cats and kittens and find wonderful homes for them.
I met Jan and Rich about 3 yrs ago while vacationing in Florida. The were gracious enough to give me a tour of their facility. I am from Cape Cod , MA. and currently a volunteer and am on the board for People for Cats. We are in the process of building a new shelter and I wanted to learn more about the do's and don'ts of running a shelter. From type of cages to the kind of disenfectant to use has been a great help to us. All the hard work these two wonderful people do " all for the love of cats" is a labor of love. Keep up the good work Jan and Rich.
We adopted Oliver last year from Jan and Rich. They treated him for a very advanced case of ringworm for 6 months. Any other shelter would have put him down. That would have been such a loss as Oliver is such a loving , funny, full of life, and beautiful cat. Their dedication and love for animals surpasses anyone. When we first adopted Oliver we called them at 1 am because we thought Oliver was sick. I am sure we woke them up but they walked us through. It turns out Oliver was exhaused. He had been in a cage for 6 months and now had the run of the house.
We just love him so much. We are grateful to Jan ,Rich, and Elaine. Without them Oliver wouldn't be with us.
Jan and Jim are dedicated to the rescue of unwanted cats and kittens. We adopted 3 feral kittens who stumbled into our yard one day and Jan and Jim loaned us traps to catch them and gave us valuable advice on how to domesticate them. Isabella, Marco and Franco are now 3 years old and rule the roost. Every weekend, Jan and Jim from For the Love of Cats bring kittens and cats available for adoption to a neighborhood pet supply store and hope to encourage the people shopping to take home one of their jewels. Everyone is always exclaiming how cute the kittens are, but Jim has a way of showing the talents and advantages of those who are no longer kittens, especially for those who aren't at home all day. Jan and Jim have dedicated themselves to these homeless kittens and cats. For the Love of Cats is a wonderful charity that I am proud to donate to as often as I can.
Jan and Jim are the greatest. We adopted two sisters, Puff and Emma from them about four years ago. They have helped us in clipping their nails when they were very little, to solving a flea problem that happened after we took them to the vets for their shots.They are so pleasant to everyone that comes in, and takes really good care of the kittens and older cats. I first heard of 'For The Love Of Cats' from a family member who is a volunteer. They made room for a kitten I had found. They got it adopted in 6 days. I have since come to know them and see how dedicated they are to helping all the cats that they can. I know I can go to Jim when ever I have a question and he even helped me pick out a carrier for a cat that I will be taking to CT for my son. Jim helps at the Humane Society and has been able to place many Senior cats into homes by showing them at Pet Smart on the weekends. These are cats that may never be seen if they weren't in the store. Jan and Jim are very dedicated to placing all the cats in GOOD homes. I was introduced to Jan & Jim by a friend at work. I've adopted 3 kitties from them and on the 2nd day one went missing - - Jim walked me thru what to do and how to help get her back home. Turns out that she was under the bedspread sleeping, but the help that Jim offered was so special. Jan helped me thru fostering a kitty until she was adopted by a family on vacation from MA. These two are the best and what they do to help all the kitties is just Wonderful!!!
We have known Jim and Jan Rich for several years. During that time we have never seen such dedication to the care of feline and abandoned cats. At any hour of the day and night, they may be rescuing an abandoned litter, trapping cats that need to be neutered as well as receive medical attention - all at their time an expense. Their efforts are not simply to adopt cats and go on to the next situation. They are dedicated to make sure that each adoption works out well; they work with many families to optimize their relationship with the new family member(s). We have adopted five of their kittens, all in excellent health, micro chipped and wonderful additions to our family. We, like so many other families, are proud to know them and fully support their commitment to keeping the feline population in check and making it possible for so many people to bring a new furry critter into their lives.
I used to volunteer at For the Love of Cats a few years ago and have always admired how much love and dedication Jim and Jan Rich have given to homless and abandoned cats and kittens. They have given their lives to take care of and find loving homes for these adorable creatures. So, there was no question where to go after my amazing cat passed to find more feline friends a loving home. I only had one cat when she passed and it took some time to call them. We went to the shelter and two kittens picked my daughter and I out! I love that they adopt them out in pairs. Even though they weren't actaul siblings, they are if that makes sense! They are the two best cats in the universe and I can only praise my grateful to Jim and Jan and what they do! Bless them always!!!
I wish there were additional words in the dictionary to describe what an amazing place For the Love of Cats is. It is just the best temporary home abandon cats and kittens could have until they find a permanent family. There are also not adequate words to describe how Jim, Jan and Linda spare no amount of love, time, expense and just downright hard work, to ensure our precious kittens and cats find the right "fit" for a new home. I cannot say enough good things about this shelter. It is just the very best.
If there was ever two people where there will be a special place in Heaven waiting it will be for Jan and Jim Rich. They are two of the most outstanding people I have ever known. Their dedication to the welfare of cats is remarkable and their shelter is one of a kind. They don't just take in a cat but they make sure it's medical and dental needs are taken care of before adoption and they keep track of the ones they adopt out and will take them back if they can no longer be cared for. We adopted an older cat from them and it has been a wonderful experience. Not only did we get a precious little "furball" to love but we have experienced how exceptional Jan and Jim are. Due to medical problems I have been unable to clip Kookie's nails so Jan and Jim come every couple of months and do it for me. Jim also took her to the hospital for dental care and they took care of her at their home until the next day so I didn't have to have the worry since I was not well yet. For that I will be forever grateful. This is just one example of their devotion to cats and the type of shelter they have. Awesome!!
This is a fantastic no -kill shelter for cats and kittens that goes way beyond what you could expect.
I manage a small 19 room inn and we fed and care for 4 once-stray cats. A 5th showed up one day, and I started feeding him, too. He came everyday but I started to notice there was something wrong with his eyes- but he generally kept his head down so I couldn't really see what was wrong.
I called For Love of Cats and they came right over and humanely trapped him and brought him back to the shelter. It turned out that he was about 15 years old and his eyelashes had turned into his eyes and were scraping his corneas- it was very painful. I know our local humane society or Domestic Animal services would have put this beautiful sweet cat down immediately. But Jan and Jim rich spent a small fortune having his eyes operated on so he was no longer in pain, and then taking care of his abscessed tooth, and treating his overactive thyroid. They didn't expect anyone would adopt a 15 year-old cat so they decided to make him the official shelter cat and let him live out his remaining years in comfort and safety. As things turned out, one of their volunteers fell in love with him and adopted him. This shelter will do nearly anything and everything possible to help the cats and kittens on our island. I cannot say enough about them!
We have expanded our family with 2 cats from TLOC, Senge and Calie, and couldn't be more impressed with this group. Both of the cats had been dumped or returned, each had been thru the "system" multiple times. Due to the remarkable people in this group, both still retained their spirits and ability to trust. Jim and Jan have always gone well beyond what anyone could ever expect, even calling from their vacation cruise, when we needed help with a cat health issue. They never stop checking on the cat kids, and even provide a wonderful cat manicure, at the adoption center in the Naples Petsmart. They also provide a great sounding board for the nervious (crazed) new/old pet parent, for all those endless questions.
When at PetSmart one day, unbeknown to me, my husband fell in love with an old cat. We learned the Tom had been abandoned and on his own for about a year until a volunteer from For The Love of Cats Inc. managed to capture him. It wasn't until several days later after finally learning of my husband's dispondancy that he REALLY wanted that old cat whose ears were curled like boxer's. Have recently moved to Naples we wanted to be more settled before adopting a "kitten." However, when we inquired further about him Jan and Jim told us of his visible sores, problematic eye which needed surgery and lack of sufficient nourishment when they acquired him. He was neutered, had eye surgery and prepared for adoption when we first saw him. We have had Mr. Mann for almost a year and he is the most wonderful cat I have ever owned. He is intelligent critter, minds when told no hopping on counters, beds, chairs and the like made friends with our, also adopted dog and of course "rules" in his polite way. If it wasn't for the kindness, caring and dedication of Jan and Jim this cat would not have survived. They will go out of their way to help no matter what small "problem" one might have. And, having seen their facility it is by far much better than those I have seen in Vet's. It is CLEAN, light, airy and not crowded. Their combined dedication is outstanding. There should be more people in this world like them!!!!

Our two wonderful cats, Charley & Henry, (litter mates) were adopted from For the Love of Cats. They were really well cared for as kittens and we give Jan and Rich all the credit for that. It is truly a caring shelter. Charley and Henry are 4 yrs. old now, healthy, affectionate, marvelous parts of our family.

My husband and I became volunteers after adopting two kittens from FLOC. The directors and volunteers go to extraordinary lengths to provide loving care to all of the cats that pass through the shelter. It truly is a no kill shelter In one case we paid for a volunteer to fly from Florida to Buffalo, New York to rescue an abandoned cat that was originally adopted by FLOC. Recently we had 2 cats with persistent and extensive ring worm. The staff and volunteers spent hundreds of man hours treating and loving them so that they were able to be adopted once they were cured. Just recently a woman who feeds a feral colony arrived at the shelter in tears with a cat in her arms. She had known him for 8 years and found him by the side of the road. Once we determined that he was indeed dead the volunteer asked if she could take him home to bury him in her yard. The director lovingly wrapped him in towels and tucked a catnip mouse between his paws while saying a prayer for him. As you can imagine it was a tearfull event for all of us there. Normally, however, our tears are tears of joy when a cat goes to a loving home.

For the Love of Cats is a wonderful organization. My sister has cats and dogs and ran on hard times a few months back and For the Love of Cats was there to help her with food for both Dogs and Cats. They are the most wonderful, compassionate and caring people. Our world needs more like them. I thank them from the bottom of my heart for helping my sister when she was in need. They are out daily in search of animals needing assistance.

What a wonderful organization For The Love of Cats is. I was very impressed by the faclity. It is VERY clean and welcoming for both the cats who are there and for people who who come to adopt and who volunteer there.
When I stopped by Pet Smart just to "look" at the cats/kittens that were open for adoption, I had just lost a BELOVED cat and did not think I was ready to adopt. Until a tiny black ball of fur was plopped in my hands, and I was in LOVE...
Jim was there to greet me and answer all my many questions. Both Jan & Jim were a great support and you can see their love of cats truely through in all they do.

I have known Jan & JIm for many years now. My husband and I own at the Eagles Nest Timeshare in Marco where a colony of cats are being fed by For The Love of Cats. Joyce West is the volunteer who feeds this site. I met her one time on a visit to our timeshare. As it turns out, I knew many of Joyce's coworkers at the Marriott from Atlanta where I also do cat rescue. Joyce and I began talking about the cats and she told me about Jan & Jim. I made a visit to their shelter and was very impressed by how clean and professional it is. I visit them two times a year whenever I go back to Marco Island. I have been so impressed with them that I even take one of my grand daughters who loves cats as much as I do. I know the island's cats could not survive without this organization! I am now even happier that Jan & Jim have been taking in more adult cats as they need help just as the kittens do :) Fabulous teamwork!!
For the love of Cats is an organization that shows compansion and always puts the animals first. We rescued some kitiies from the everglades and Jan was more than happy to assist. The staff is also great as well and work hard. We are always glad to help this shelter.
Jim and Jan are fabulous people. They truly care about helping the stray cats find good homes. They are always so patient with people, never pushy, just doing their work of finding cats and kittens forever homes. We have adopted three of their 'babies' and could not be happier with our new family members. Please help them with their work and adopt a cat or just donate to their organization.
My wife and I were feeding a colony of feral cats on our own for years without even knowing about "For The Love of Cats". A volunteer with the rescue shelter came by one afternoon and asked about a specific cat she saw in our driveway. She mentioned the shelter to us while listening all about the cats we'd been feeding. She came back with cat food a few days later and told us about the shelter and introduced us to some of the other nice people who volunteer there. Soon we were getting our food from the shelter to feed our colony and as new cats would show up they would come and get them and take them to the vet for their shots and to be neutered. They would home some of the cats but those that couldn't be homed they would bring back and turn loose right where they had picked them up from. All of those cats are still with us and eat here daily. Seeing the shelter for the first time was mind blowing after having gone to other shelters. We were completely impressed with the cleanliness and professionalism there.
Jim and Jan are two of the most wonderful people on earth. We adopted a kitten from them that ended up having a health problem that our family couldn't afford to take care of. These angels got our kitten the operation that she needed. They took care of everything! Our baby is back home now and better than ever thanks to Jim and Jan. We are truly blessed to have adopted our kitten (and two before this) from "The Love of Cats." Zeva says "Purrrrr...Thank you!"
We found four stray kittens and brought them to Jan and Jim for assistance with spay/neutering, care and adoption. They arranged for immediate medical care for one sick kitten after having a vet perform full physicals on all four kittens. They then "sponsored" us as foster parents and equipped us with medication, flea preventatives, food, etc. We nursed the kittens until they grew bigger and turned them over to Jan and Jim for adoption. One kitten had to be put down due to a rare incurable brain disorder and the other three found wonderful homes.
Throughout this entire ordeal Jan and Jim were incredibly knowledgeable, helpful and supportive to us and the kittens. They are a wonderful couple who seem to have dedicated their existence to the care of cats. I couldn't think of a more pleasurable couple to work with in this cause. Every cat they take in will be extremely well cared for by For The Love of Cats!
I have been working at this shelter for the last 7 years. Our shelter
has been visited by vets, animal lovers, newspaper reporters, and
other shelter personnel and all have commented to us that it is the cleanest and nicest small shelter they have seen. When our cats find their "forever" homes, they have been well-socialized, and well-loved. I myself have 3 of our rescues. Two of them were so scared of humans (their previous contacts with people was less than humane!) that they each spent months hiding. They now sit on my lap, purr, head butt my husband and I and let us know, in their own way, how happy they are living with us. There is no better feeling to any of us after having an animal arrive at our shelter door, frightened, dirty and sick, than eventually having that same animal put their little paws on your face to give you a "kiss" of thanks. For the Love of Cats is a
spectacular organization with great founders, volunteers and adoptees!
The Love of Cats is an outstanding adoption program. They very patiently and kindly explained the cats they had brought to Petsmart for adoption and encouraged us to consider adopting. My wife said no twice but the third attempt proved to be a great blessing to our "family". They recommended a super black cat that would fit into our family situation perfectly. Walter, renamed "Willie", is the greatest buddy any family could hope for in a cat. Willie thinks he is a dog as he talks and plays with us constantly. The Love of cats provided us with everything we needed to get "Walter" off to a great start including food, toys, and cat litter. We are so thankful that the Love of Cats approached us with such a hopeful and encouraging process. We can't imagine not having "Willie" in our lives even though he has replaced me as the #1 male in the household. We have already recommended The Love of Cats to several friends. A+ recommendation!
First of all we are pasionate cat lovers. A few years ago we found a very unhappy black kitten on the road. My wife put the kitten in the back of the car and took him home. We cleaned him, gave him food and water.
A few years earlier the same thing had happened. We found a very sick tabby female and my wife insisted to keep her and arrange for the proper care until she was well. We saved her but could not let her go. So here we were 2 Siamese cats + a tabby kitten.
Back to the black kitten. We were tempted to keep him but couldn't have another cat. Fortunately we knew "For the love of cats" We called them and they said bring him in. When we arrived two ladies
took care of him. We really felt that we had done the right thing.
We called "For the love of cats" several times to make sure he was ok and to ask if they had found a family for him. Shortly after we were told that he had left the shelter to join a nice family. We were very happy that once again "For the love of cats" had given a kitten the chance to have a life.

The shelter for the love of cats is truly one of its kind. The large cat
cages, you might want to call them cat condo's, are cleaned 3 times a day with special cleaning agents by volunteers. The airconditioned large environment where cats may play together with very clean and updated toys, poles, catscratcher etc. etc. Volunteers
knit special blankets the keep the new borns warm. If the cats need
special care it is noted on a bulleting board in which order of importance the cats should received it done by a license vetenarian and volunteers. The love that is given to all cats is remarkable with
no exception. The cats are played with and some are walked with. Each cat is held and loved each and every day.
What a wonderful rescue! Jim and Jan were absolutely great before, during, and after the adoption process. Their rescue facility, located on Marco Island, is VERY impressive and the cleanliness is better than any Vet office I have visited in the last 25 years.
They truly do it "For the Love of Cats".

A stray cat had four kittens that I didn't see until they were 8-10 weeks old. They were completely feral and afraid of humans. FTLOC took two of the kittens, tamed them and adopted them out.
FTLOC taught me to Trap, Neuter and release the mom and other two. I worked with lots of support from FTLOC on taming the two feral kittens. I just couldn't have done it without them.
I was able to finally find a home for the other two once they were a bit more tamed.
Our shelter kills over 300 cats a MONTH. FTLOC helps find homes for cats and educates the public about neutering their animals. These people work so hard with so little money.
When I am in Florida, I make it a point to visit this shelter as I am very impressed with the good work that the volunteers perform there to benefit the cats and kittens. Of course it is a no-kill shelter and the animals receive loving care, socialization and, if necessary, receive whatever medical attention is required to restore the cat/kitten to good health. They do a wonderful job for these animals. The ultimate goal is to find a good home for each and every cat/kitten that arrives at the shelter.
