Nonprofit Overview

Causes: Animal Protection & Welfare, Animals

Mission: For the Love of Birds is exclusively for charitable and educational purposes of companion birds through rescue, care and placement. Parrots can live long lives, 20 to 80 years, and because of this and by virtue of not being a domesticated animal, they will end up living in multiple homes for various reasons; unfulfilled expectations, death, moving, loss of job, life changes, etc. It is our mission to help as many birds as we can and find a loving and educated next home in New Jersey and surrounding areas. The Board of Directors include Joanne Freel, Caryn Cullen, Tracy Lederman, Patty Deitch, and Denise Quadrel. Combined, we have over 30 years involved in parrot rescue. We are a registered 501c3 nonprofit animal rescue operating in the State of New Jersey. We possess a permit from the State of New Jersey, Division of Fish & Wildlife for Exotic and Non-Game Wildlife Species Possession, Pet Shop - Retail Sales.

I’ve always been around birds growing up. In December we lost our beloved 25 year old Cockatiel. I was beyond heartbroken. I knew I could never have another cockatiel so I began to research bird rescues. I had a long conversation with Joanne telling her my story. She listened patiently and had me fill out an application to adopt and or foster. I found a 7 year old Conure close by and we decided to visit. Juliet, foster mom, was very accommodating. After about a month we brought Andy home. He has quite a personality and we are taking our time getting adjusted to him but he is just what my heart needed! I recommend For the Love of birds rescue. Even if you just want someone to talk to or visit they are very supportive!

I joined For the love of birds rescue in January 25 as a foster home. My sister Patty has had birds for over 20 years and has been part of the rescue for many years. I acquired my first bird a 25 year old African Grey from a coworker around 3 years ago. My sister along with Joanne always helped me with any questions as I learned about behaviors, foods, All the Does and don'ts. Etc. Even though the bird did not come from the rescue. I got my first foster bird in January a Green cheek conure. Its fun seeing how different breed birds have there quirks and personalities. My second Foster a 28 year old African Grey (Ashes) came to me. After fostering him for a few weeks. We became buddies. He is such a good bird. He cracks me up with his antics and makes me happy. So I decided I had to adopt him. If you are interested in adopting this is a great organization to deal with. Check out the site for yourself.

I've been owned by sun conures for almost 30 years until last November when my last of the Mohicans passed away at almost 30! After months we realized we couldn't be sun conure-less and contacted For The Love of Birds. Adopting our bird from For the Love of Birds was one of the most rewarding experiences we've ever had. From the moment we first reached out, the team was incredibly knowledgeable, kind, and patient. They took the time to understand our home environment, lifestyle, and experience level.

Throughout the process. We never felt alone or overwhelmed—they were always just a call, text or email away to answer our questions, even after the adoption was complete.

The transition for our new feathered family member was smooth, thanks to the guidance and ongoing support from the organization. Our bird is happy, healthy, and has brought so much joy and character into our home.

We’re deeply grateful to For the Love of Birds for the incredible work they do and for helping us give a loving forever home to such a special bird. Highly recommended to anyone considering bird adoption!

We wanted to adopt one or more budgies to befriend the sweet parakeet I inherited when my mother passed away. My son and I could not be more impressed by the incredibly committed and thoughtful work of For the Love of Birds and their volunteers. They were extremely careful in vetting us as possible parents for their parakeets Beatrice and Blossom. They interviewed my references and me, reviewed a video walk-through of where the birds would live, and had my parakeet tested for any illnesses. They were also extremely supportive and had tons of great advice. The foster family taking care of the budgies were fantastic and clearly had done a wonderful job taking care of them. We are honored and very grateful to have had this lovely experience with For the Love of Birds. They do great work and deserve our support!

My name is Anthony A. Perez and I am thrilled to offer my pleasant experiences with this wonderful organization called For the Love of Birds. I had owned my previous cockatiels consistently since I was in high school. Unfortunately late last year, I lost both of my over 20 year old birds a mere months apart. Not having my house filled with the sounds of birds was strange and this prompted me to start looking for new companions. I had considered purchasing new birds, but somehow I was lead to this organization. The initial application was filled out in January and immediately I was contacted with additional questions to determine if I was an appropriate candidate. They checked references, verified my veterinary and conducted a thorough interview process. It became apparent that this organization does not just hand over birds to anyone. They have a very rigorous adoption process because they want the birds to be matched with the perfect adopters and I found that to be admirable. On February 16th I was finally able to bring the two sisters Autumn and Bee home with me. They have acclimated nicely to their new environment and hopefully will live very comfortable for decades to come. For the Love of Birds was very supportive, and provided food, a cage and toys to start me off. I felt compelled to provide an extra donation in support of this organization and I plan of possibly continuing to donate whenever possible. I highly recommend them.

We first learned about FtLOB in 2017, after our cockatiel Rufus died. In the autumn of that year we decided that the house was too quiet, and not wanting to encourage bird breeding we looked at local rescue agencies. FtLOB had the most diverse list of birds available for adoption, from finches to macaws. We were interested in a cockatiel whose name I can't remember, and filled out the adoption paperwork.

I can't remember his name because Joanne, the adoption coordinator, suggested another bird, Charlie. We visited the foster home where Charlie was living, and immediately bonded with her. While Rufus was very much my bird, and tolerated my wife because she fed him treats, Charlie (who we renamed Carly) was happy to share time with both of us.

We spent seven wonderful years with Carly, ultimately losing her to an auto-immune disorder in September of last year. While both my wife and I professed not to want another bird, we were both looking at the FtLOB website. In February, we saw Ravioli, a three-year-old female cockatiel who was described as "an explorer." We decided to fill out the adoption paperwork, and in early March Ravi came home with us. She is living up to her name, flying around our house, and was calm and adaptable when we took her for an overnight trip to a state park.

In both adoptions our experience with FtLOB was superb. They have a very detailed adoption application, and follow up with a phone call and request for home video, all to ensure that the prospective adopter understands that keeping birds is a commitment and responsibility. They require at least one visit to the foster home, to ensure that adopter and adoptee get along. The test their birds for common diseases. And they send the birds to their adoptive home with a cage and all supplies needed to ensure that the relationship gets off to a good start.

My husband and I wanted to adopt an older bird. For the Love of birds had a 35 year old African grey named Good Boy. We had a great experience with them. After I filled out the application I was contacted. I went to visit him at his foster home. I could just tell how much they cared about the birds. After I got him home I received help with any questions I had. I would definitely work with the Love of Birds again. Good boy is doing great with us. We were very happy to give him a forever home.

I reached out to FTLOB wanting a cockatiel, but they redirected me towards my little green idiot named Charlie. The process to get him was pretty long and tedious, but understandable for such a big commitment that's usually mismanaged. The foster parents and Joane were very kind and helpful in accommodating me with Charles, especially with how rowdy he is around other people. Great service here

Joanne was a pleasure to work with. She was so helpful when I adopted my little blue parakeet, Harry. This organization genuinely cares about its birds and thoroughly vets potential owners to ensure that the birds will be in a safe and loving environment. Joanne has expertise with a wide range of exotic bird species. She offered some excellent advice and ideas to acclimate my little Harry. The application process to adopt is very thorough ensuring that their rescued birds go to the most perfect forever home. Unlike other bird rescues, FTLOB disease tests all their birds. This was very important to me as I have two 25-year-old cockatiels that also were disease tested.
Joanne was wonderful to work with and recommended Pepper for me to adopt as he is an older cockatiel that was looking for a quiet home to share with some cockatiel friends. It has been about two months and Pepper has acclimated beautifully to his new surroundings. He came with a very large cage that he was accustomed to and FTLOB provided a nice assortment of bird food and other goodies.
I would like to thank all the volunteers who rescue birds and provide a safe foster home until they are adopted. You are all very special!

The application process was thorough, which is a great thing. We got lots of information and advice from FTLOB during the process. The pickup was easy, the whole foster situation was great, and we have a lovely new friend in our home. He's a healthy, happy canary, quite a step up from our previous sickly pet shop canary who I bought because I felt bad for him. Please support FTLOB, they're doing a wonderful job for the birds!

Earlier this year, our baby of 13 years, our sun conure passed away at the Hospital, where we took her for a prolapsed uterus, after she laid an egg. Needless to say, we were devastated and convinced we would never recover from the loss. After several weeks of mourning her loss, we donated some of her cages to the rescue organization For the love of birds, retaining only the one that was home to our baby. Joanne at FTLOB made it easy for us and met us at their storage facility, where they keep donations, etc. A few weeks later Joanne reached out to let us know they had received what she believed was a very special sun conure, and invited us to visit, if we felt we were ready. We decided to take Joanne up on her offer and visited "Tito", who was in the company of several adorable birds, all under the care of a loving caregiver, Kirstin. Kirstin spent a considerable amount of time educating us, and allowed us time to get to know Tito, who we fell in love with. The adoption process was rigorous, and convinced us that FTLOB has the best long term interest of pets under their care. We received Tito's prior medical records, and current DNA test prior to adoption, and a week later, when we went to get Tito, we received Tito's cage, toys, and food; things Tito was comfortable with. We were also provided educational material regarding dietary recommendations, etc.Tito is now well settled at his new home with his new family, and has been to his first well visit with an amazing Vet recommended by Joanne. We are thankful to Joanne, Kirstin and FTLOB for their compassion and caring and for making this possible.

After losing one of my babies (2 girl budgies Panko and Peanut ) Panko a year or so back, I decided it was time for Peanut to have a new friend. Looking on Instagram, a photo of a little budgie popped up and I immediately knew I needed to bring Stella home. After contacting FTLOB's, I was connected with Joanne who walked me through the entire process and was so helpful providing me with information and answering all my questions. After speaking and FaceTiming with Stella's family, my daughter and I went to bring Stella home. While she is still a bit shy with me, Stella has perked up, is chirping more often, flying around and hanging with Peanut, and napping on top of the cage. We are so happy to have Stella with us and thank you to For The Love of Birds for all you do to help these sweet babies find their new homes!

We sent in an application and the vetting process was completed within a week. The woman who helped us, Joanne, advised against the birds we originally applied for, saying she had the perfect bird for us that wasn't on the website. And she was 100% correct! A few more days later after our phone interview and home review, we met little Pidgey who really was a perfect match for us. Within a week, this boy who was afraid of hands was already comfortable enough to give him scritches! Two weeks and he fell asleep on my shoulder!! Having a cuddly bird being our friend was our priority and I'm so happy to have gotten exactly what I'd wanted. I could not recommend For the Love of Birds enough!

My husband and I adopted our new feathered friend from ‘For The Love of Birds’ in fall 2024. After we applied for him, a representative from the organization was quick to reach out. Over the course of a few weeks they did a through job of making sure that we were a perfect fit for our friend, and we appreciated how much they looked out for all the birds that they took under their care. After we picked Gundam, they touched base to make sure everyone was adjusting, and give pointers on the best way to introduce Gundam to our other cockatiel. Everyone we spoke with was so kind and knowledgeable. We are very happy to have worked with them!

Best adoption decision we ever made! Meet Peanut & Buttercup.

During the months after our 26-year-old pet Sun Conure passed, we thought we couldn’t do it again. She had been so loved & the heartbreak was still there. But when our daughter spotted this 10 year-old bonded pair and nudged us a bit, we decided to reach out.

The application was highly detailed and took a bit of time, but was also thought-provoking. By the time I hit “send.”, I was fully invested and it was clear this organization was working in the best interest of the birds they serve.

A phone interview, home video submission and a few foster-family visits later we had our new family members. Its been a number of months and they have adjusted very well. Peanut & Buttercup are just the sweetest little guys and their future is very bright. We couldn’t be happier with our decision.

The FTLOBs team is highly knowledgeable, their fosters are carefully vetted and their hearts are definitely in the right place.

Thank you “For the Love of Birds.”

After my wife died I thought a pet would help with the loneliness. I decided on a bird and a friend alerted me to the fact that there were adoption organizations for pet birds. I searched online and identified several. One had very limited choices, one considered me to be too far away, and one was just too difficult to work with. Then I found For the Love of Birds in New Jersey. They were very friendly and eager to match me with a bird. They worked with my schedule to arrange visits with adoptable birds and offered guidance and suggestions. I ended up coming home to New York with Spanky, a middle aged Golden Capped Conure, a terrific accessorized cage, and a ton of food. The adoption fee was very reasonable. They continue to check in on us and answer any questions. I couldn’t be happier with the whole process.

I have been fostering for FTLOB since Jan and it has been a pleasure working with them. Everyone works as a team to put the birds needs first. When I tell people I foster birds they look at me like I have 2 heads. When you think of animal rescues you think cats/dogs. Birds are misunderstood animals that need a lot of attention which people don't realize when they acquire them. Unfortunately this results in many unwanted birds. Our vetting process is very thorough to ensure the bird is placed in the right home. It's very fulfilling to receive updates on successful adoptions that give these birds a second chance at a happy life.

After my 28 year old Senegal parrot passed, I was desperate to find a new feathered friend. I was fortunate enough to find FTLOB. I filled out my application, pleading my case. Shortly thereafter, Joanne contacted my references and was approved. I did not choose a bird from the list. Joanne considered my history, and matched me with Jazz. He is the most beautiful 24 yr old Gold Capped Conure. Apparently we both needed each other and are getting along super. It's been less that a week and this lovable guy greets me happily every morning and if I've been out running errands. He can't wait to hop on my shoulder and hang out with me. I couldn't believe how wonderful Joanne was to work through the adoption process. She even delivered Jazz, his beautiful cage and all his food & toys to my home. The whole experience was better than I could have ever expected. It's easy to see the health & safety of the adoptable birds is their top priority. I would encourage anyone interested in adopting a bird to contact FTLOB.

My daughter Emma has been begging for a bird for the past year. After tasking her with doing research herself, she decided that she wanted to adopt instead of buying one at the store. My family was thrilled at the prospect of rescuing a bird and giving it a great life. After searching for the right fit, we came across two brothers Bowie & Benjamin. They are blue and green parakeets with a ton of personality.

For the Love of Birds Rescue organization was everything we needed in a rescue group. The volunteers I worked with were not only kind, but knowledgeable and dedicated to their cause. They gave us so much attention, information, and feedback that has made Bowie and Benjamin’s transition seamless.

I have been blown away by their support in this adoption process. If I ever need anything, I know they are a phone call away. What they have created for all of the birds in their program is truly inspiring. I am so lucky to have found them and our two little guys that will be a part of our family for many years to come!

My fiance and I were looking for a feathered friend for a few months at various bird stores around NJ with no luck in finding the right personality to fit our wishes. I was doing research and found For the Love of Birds online and my fiance and I got to read about a cute green-cheek conure named Cory. He sounded like what we were looking for and we put in our application to potentially adopt. We both appreciated the depth in which the application was questioning because we could really tell that this non-profit truly cared for the well-being of their animals and wanted to put them in good homes. Once our application was approved, it was time for us to meet Cory at his foster parents' home. She was very knowledgable about his behaviors, needs, diet and medical history and was very courteous in letting us stay for a few hours in private with Cory so he could get comfortable with us. As soon as we left, we knew this was definitely the bird for us and we were elated that we could adopt him! Not only were we happy to give him his forever home, but we were very pleasantly surprised that they also provided a sizeable cage, medical history, more information about general wellness tips and tricks, food, and a very small adoption fee (much less than any birds we would have purchased from a bird store). We have now had him for about a month and are SO happy with the decision we made! He was clearly well cared-for in his former foster home and now that he is in his forever home, his big, silly personality has come out like his funny love of cuddling with feet and obsession with taking baths in the kitchen sink! Not to mention, he has even started learning new tricks like flying to our fingers across the room and spinning! He has become such a wonderful part of our lives and we are SO grateful to have found him through For the Love of Birds.

We are so happy to have the privilege to work with FTLOB, the fantastic organization we recently worked with to adopt our newest family member, Peach, (formerly "Ponch." We filled out a comprehensive application, had an initial interview, and created a video of our premises. Once the organization's board approved us, we then were able to visit our wonderful parrot at the foster parent's home to meet Peach and begin the bonding process. After three visits we were able to bring Peach home and have been falling in love ever since. From the beginning we got excellent guidance through the application process from the rep who interview process, who was just a wealth of information and experience. And we were incredibly impressed by the foster mother who had done great work making Peach comfortable and bringing him out of his shell. In particular this wonderful foster mom gave us a lot of helpful feedback about Peach, lots and lots of food and treats and a majestic cage to keep him in at our home in NYC. We were able to learn our little bird's preferences and habits, and we received a lot of guidance of how to progressively bond with our little boy. We cannot stress enough what a wonderful organization FTLOB is, and it's representatives were most compassionate, intelligent and supportive through this process. Every step of the process was seamless, and it didn't take a lot of time. We highly recommend this wonderful organization as their representatives genuinely care for the birds they are trying to find new homes for. Even after we brought Peach home, we have been able to avail ourselves of the guidance of the foster mom, and she has been very generous with her time and expertise. What a wonderful experience with fostering and finding my mother’s cockatiel, Percy, such a great home.
As my mother’s health was declining, she was not able to provide the care and attention needed and it appeared his health was declining as well. I’m happy to report, Percy looks healthier and happier now which puts all of minds at ease during this already difficult time. After contacting a few other rescues, we decided FTLOB was ideal.
The original foster, Tracey, was amazingly caring and very communicative from the time she picked him up, and continued communication throughout the entire process. Once he was adopted, the adopter maintained contact with mom, sending videos and pictures as requested.
Thank you to all the volunteers and supporters that make this possible.

My name is Cassandra and I got my feather baby back in February of 2024! His name is ZipZip and he is a green cheek conure! My experience with FTLOB was amazing. I had Joanne help me from start to finish with the adoption process. They made sure the adopted bird would go to a great home and an owner that would care for them which I appreciated. They had already had ZipZip disease tested and gender tested because he was found outside which was great. All I had to do was get my first bird disease tested and the process for that was extremely simple. They provided me with the paperwork and mailing stuff to make it easier for me. Jody was the foster mom of my ZipZip and was extremely nice and helpful! She provided me with everything i'd need for him when I got to adopt him! FTLOB is very helpful and answered any questions I had along the way and even help me out after I adopted my bird. I would say if you are looking to adopt a bird FTLOB is a great place to adopt with. The process of finding a bird and getting approved can take a little while but it's way worth it in the end!

FOR THE LOVE OF BIRDS is true to their name! They are committed, compassionate and dedicated to keeping their rescued, beautiful exotic birds safe, healthy, happy & well loved in their hands and others. Their screening process ensures their rescued birds they adopt out will be well taken care of, as some have so sadly endured unwarranted situation(s). FTLOB helped me find the perfect match for Boujie, who I felt really needed a friend. After I canceled several pick up dates and being accommodated each and every time, I finally adopted sweet Xena on 4/17/24. She is adjusting wonderfully to her new home and to her loving and nurturing friend, Boujie. They are so happy together. To see them build their trust and bond to one another so quickly is rewarding and heartwarming. They did, after all, start off having something very much in common. Ironically, they were both found flying around outside and were rescued right before the cold set in! So in my eyes and heart, adoption is the way to go and you can't go wrong doing it through FTLOB. Xena's future, I can attest to, will be filled with everything she deserves and more! Thank you Joanne, Tracy, Eileen and everyone at FTLOB for always keeping your rescued birds' best interest in mind. Thank you for spreading the love, concern, educating and raising awareness so these sweet birds can spread their wings, fly toward happier lives and into their forever homes. Thank you everyone at FOR THE LOVE OF BIRDS for all you do!

My cockateil, Frida, was such a lonely girl after her cockateil buddy had passed unexpectedly. Since I work long days and couldn't give her the companionship she deserved I sought out FTLOB. Caryn was wonderful and supportive from the very beginning. I was sad to see Frida leave. But, I'm relieved to know that she has a new best cockateil friend and a "mom" who works from home. FTLOB is very thorough in their background checks for rehoming birds, far better than what I could do on my own. They provided video clips of the new home environment which eased my mind about where she would be living. I'm also grateful for the phone chats with the new owner and the photos that she sends me now and then. FTLOB was a huge help in connecting me with the right person to love and care for my feathered Frida baby. They made a difficult decision much easier. They truly care about what's best for birds. Thank you FTLOB and thank you Caryn! I am so grateful for you and all that you do.

Just last Monday, we adopted a bird named Cashmere. He is an eight, or nine-year-old cockatiel. We have had lots of fun already with him. We feel lucky that we found “For the Love of Birds”. Joanne did check the references we provided and also had a phone call with us. We were impressed by how devoted they are. Their birds must be in good hands. Joanne and Caryn helped us enormously and we are very thankful for the information and assistance we were given. We highly recommend them to people who are looking for a pet bird.

Within the last year I lost my senior cockatiel from old age and then my pigeon suddenly and unexpectedly. The absence of a feathered friend led me to searching for a local rescue, hoping to see if there was a bird out there I could offer my home and heart to. Almost like it was meant to be, I found the For the Love of Birds Rescue (FTLOB) and happened upon their adoptable birds list. I absolutely gasped when I saw "The Band" listed, a group of four cockatiels all up for adoption together. Robbie, Levon, Rick, & Garth absolutely pulled on my heart and I knew I had to put in an application form for them.

The adoption process with FTLOB was prompt, organized, and professional. Everyone I spoke to - Joanne, Caryn - I could easily see how much they cared for the wellbeing of these birds and every step in the process was to ensure they would be getting a safe, happy, and healthy forever home. The FTLOB's website clearly outlines what can be expected during the adoption process and they held to that. I went through the process during the holiday season and the rescue was flexible in allowing a video tour of the room where the birds would stay with their cage. Their feedback was prompt along with suggestions for making the environment best fit the birds before adopting them. After receiving approval I was able to promptly schedule with Caryn, the Band's foster, a time to meet them and with that it only solidified what I already knew: that all four would be a new part of the family.

And I'm very happy to say that Levon, Robbie, Rick, & Garth (now renamed Gus!) have recently come home!

After such a positive experience, I can only highly recommend working with FTLOB Rescue for anyone who lives in the NJ area and is looking to give a home to a feathered friend!

We were on the hunt for a feathered friend (or two!) to join our family. We have rescue dogs and work with rescue horses so we knew we wanted to go the same direction with acquiring a bird. We were looking for a green cheek and found this lovely girl that came with a bonded lovebird. I think the best part of rescue is that we not only had to, but got to spend time with the birds before we decided that they were the right fit for our family. The green cheek took immediately to my daughter which was great.
The process took time, but we were prepared for that having worked with rescues for our dogs. Communication was clear and timely and we have been given so much support from For The Love of Birds to ensure that our new feathered friends transition to our home was seamless.
Anyone thinking of adopting a bird (or birds!) should absolutely consider a bird from For The Love of Birds. I cannot recommend them more highly.

We had lost the last of our 4 cockatiels in 2022 and 2023. After grieving for a bit, we started looking to adopt one or two new birds. We found For The Love of Birds and filled out an adoption form. Joanne called us and went through a thorough interview and also spoke with our references. We were very impressed with their vetting process.

After speaking with two of the bird foster families, we went to see Cici, a 4-year old male (probably) cockatiel about an hour from us, intending to adopt if we felt there could be a good bond with us. Cici was full flighted at the time, but still unafraid of us, just more interested in the foster home's parakeets. We decided to take a chance and adopt him. After chasing him a bit we finally got him into his carrier and took him home with his cage and stand.

Once home, we clipped him (twice! he's a strong flyer), and now he's calmed down and spends most of his time on one of us or on top of his cage. After less than a week, he's singing and exploring and getting into lots of trouble! I think he'll be very happy here.

We'd like to thank FTLoB and wish them the best of luck in adopting out all of their beautiful birds. Their attention to detail and followup has been excellent, and we'd recommend them to anyone looking to make some bird's life happier. F

or those of you looking to surrender a bird, we know how traumatic that can be. Rest assured that FTLoB has all the birds' best interest in mind and will only adopt out to qualified families. They'll do their best to find your bird another forever home.

I signed up with For the Love of Birds 4+ years ago and was pleased to learn that while they would look for a suitable home I would be in possession of my bird. I knew it was going to take a long time to find an appropriate home because of the fact that my male Eclectus is flighted and uncaged, free to fly through out the house. They were very careful to vett each party that applied for adoption, making inquiries about their previous experiences with veterinarians and if a home visit was not possible, even a video tour of the applicants home would be available. Every step they took including the application was reported or forwarded back to me before an in person visit to my home to meet Kiki and I was made. Everything was done out in the open for me to see.
I highly recommend For the Love of Birds to anyone looking to give up or adopt because only the suitable applicants will be presented to you. I am very happy with the people with whom I chose to take my sweet 19 year old boy, as I could not have guessed how caring and wonderful the adoptive family could have been, thanks to the patient and determined, careful screening of Joanne and her helpers.

For the Love of Birds helped my sister and I to adopt wonderful 19 year old male eclectus parrot who was being reformed due to his owner’s health and age issues. It was a wonderful experience and we are so happy with our new little guy who is named Kiki. Joanne, the Director Of Adoptions, worked with us through the entire process and made it easy and even fun. She was very honest about Kiki’s hormonal issues which require special care, so we knew what to expect. She spoke with our avian vet and references and facilitated our meeting with Kiki’s owner. We visited her owner’s home three days in a row and spent the day. there each time. We got to know Kiki and his routines, and his owner who is now a friend, and is a lovely person. Joanne stays in touch and is available if we have questions. She has been with us every step of the way. Kiki is adjusting well to our home and is a joy to us every day. This is a wonderful organization, and I appreciate how careful they were in screening us in order to be certain Kiki was coming to a good home. We are forever grateful.

What wonderful people. My experience with FTLOB has been truly heartwarming.

Sharky came into my life as an abandoned budgie, discovered by my neighbor. After a period of rehabilitation and bonding, I realized it was time for Sharky to have some companions. FTLOB came highly recommended by my avian vet. From the very first moment I reached out to them, FTLOB proved to be a thoughtful and guiding presence throughout this new journey. The adoption process was thorough, instilling confidence in their high standards, yet it was always accompanied by caring guidance. It was clear they had the best interests of their birds at heart, providing me with the assurance that my new adoptees would be in the best possible care.

I had the pleasure of visiting the foster home to meet Sunny and Sky, two adorable budgies whose personalities would complement Sharky perfectly. The home felt like a sanctuary of radiant love, enveloping you with warmth the moment you stepped inside. I had a wonderful opportunity to meet and bond with Sunny and Sky, and even meet the other foster birds!

Though I am only on day 3 of the acclimation period between Sharky and Sunny & Sky, it is evident that Sunny & Sky have been so well-loved and cared for that they are remarkably unstressed. This could only be achieved through the care of a perfectly nurturing foster family. I am deeply grateful for their efforts, as I know this has made the acclimation process easier. I am very hopeful for a continued smooth transition, as I have received only positive indications thus far.

When I reflect on my experience with FTLOB, there is one aspect that stands out above all else:

The true measure of their excellence lies not just in my decision to adopt from them, but in my unwavering trust that, heaven forbid anything happens to me, FTLOB is the only place I would entrust with the care of my birds. This level of trust and confidence in their ability speaks volumes about the quality of care they provide. To Joanne, Patricia, and everyone else involved in FTLOB, you have excelled in every aspect, and I cannot thank you enough.

My wife and I decided last year to find a new home for our Senegal parrot. Although the bird was very affectionate with me, she did not want to interact with other family members and she was stressed when friends visited. We thought that she would be happier in a smaller family or with someone living alone.

We reached out to “For the Love of Birds” for help rehoming our bird. From the very beginning Joanne, who was our primary contact at FTLOB, made us feel comfortable. She is incredibly knowledgeable about parrots and cares about their well-being. She understood our objective and set out to find a perfect new home for our bird. It took a few months but she found the perfect match for our little Senny friend.

I cannot thank Joanne and FTLOB enough for their help through this process. We have the peace of mind that our family bird found a loving new home. I warmly recommend this organization to anyone thinking about re-homeing a parrot and looking for partners who prioritize the bird’s happiness and well-being.

I've been thinking about adopting a friend for my 12-y.o. cockatiel for a while, since his cage mate passed 2 years ago. On August 1, I was browsing birds for adoption and a post about Lemon, a 19-y.o. female cockatiel, caught my attention. I filled out my adoption application and within a week I was contacted by Joanne, one of the coordinators. After ironing out some questions about my rent agreement, she proceeded with contacting my personal references and then doing an interview with me.
I was astonished at how thorough the application and interview questions were - they really DO care about finding these birds a good home!
The entire adoption procedure was remarkably smooth, and by August 29th, Lemon was comfortably settling into her new home. She came accompanied by a spacious, impeccably clean cage, and an entire bag of toys and treats, which was a wonderful surprise.
I cannot express how much I appreciated this entire experience and wholeheartedly recommend 'For The Love Of Birds.' Their dedication and commitment to these avian friends shine through in every aspect of their work."

After the unfortunate passing of Newark, we decided to adopt again. After learning a lovebird, Jake, was available for adoption, we were so excited to meet him and bring him home. Joanne, Denise, and Emily were so helpful every time. They were all given to me with beautiful cages filled with toys and food for a smooth transition. I highly recommend going through this organization. Their ultimate goal is to place birds in good homes ensuring that they get to live long, happy lives. I have had birds in the past such as cockatiels, Love Birds, Cockatoos and raised Finch.
I always wanted to adopt a bird but never really new how to go about doing so.
After much searching, I found For The Love Of Birds!!!!!! I guess the wait was defiantly worth it. I searched their site and saw several birds I thought might need rehoming. But my buddy Archie had me right from the beginning!!! After several conversations and texts with Joanne, I finally got to meet Archie... his foster owners stated he was hand shy and pretty quite and basically entertained himself. WELL, Archie is a little comedian!!!! He bops up and down to music, gives kisses, and trying to whistle. I'm also trying to get him to talk, he seems to be trying. He loves to cuddle on my shoulder!
I can't express enough the care and concern this organization has for their birds. They are extremally thorough with checking your background and home for the bird. I was so impressed by this. Some people might think it's a bit much but that made me feel so secure with them. They truly care and are so helpful. I truly can not say enough about this group. I am actually contemplating adopting another bird!!!! (Have to brake that to my husband!)Again, Thank you so much For The Love of Birds.

I decided I wanted to adopt a cockatiel in early May, but didn't know a thing about them or their care. I did some research and found "For The Love of Birds" and decided I would like to adopt the bird through this organization. From the beginning FTLOB walked me through the process to ensure that I found the right bird for my family. Joanne helped me create a safe space in my home and provided the education necessary for me to make informed decisions about the care of the bird. Once approved, she kept me updated on status of my application and the potential candidates that would be a good fit for my family. At the end of June, I was able to meet Taco and bring him home! I love him so much! I was given all of the supplies needed and paid a nominal adoption fee. I also received the assurance that if I needed any help or had questions, I could reach out to Joanne and the organization for support. I send Taco's original owner pics to put her mind at ease that her boy who needed to be rehomed was happy and being taken care of. I cannot recommend this organization enough for anyone looking to adopt or rehome a bird. They care about all parties involved and demonstrate this through their thorough and professional organization.

Their adoption fees were very reasonable and it included a great cage, a lot of toys, a carrier, and a ton of food. I came home with everything I needed for her. It was serendipity that I saw Kyle, a sweet 4 year old canary, on a listing from For the Love of Birds just a few weeks after the passing of my well-loved 10 year old canary. The beautiful photo caught my eye and the extensive, lovely description by his owners who clearly had difficulty giving him up compelled me to immediately show an interest and complete the application (which I can say is quite comprehensive and clearly designed to get the best profile of the adopter). Joanne, the adoption coordinator, was in touch with me by the next day - having already reached out to my references - and subsequently stayed in continued contact as I was approved by the agency as well as the owners and then to making arrangements for us to join each other.
I can only say the best about this organization and hope that I have been successful in letting them know just how grateful I am for their kind communication and making the match with this wonderful bird possible for me.

When I said 'Goodbye' to her, I was heartbroken. I told Pearl that her mommy would bring any birds she saw on the road. She will not care what kind of bird. She will definitely bring the bird home. 6 months later, guess what I picked up! I picked up a red tail hawk coming back from MI. I told Pear that since I could not bring a hawk home, mommy would rescue a bird. Three more months passed, and I thought I was ready to bring new birds to my home. The process was lengthy, but seamless and the best home for these birds are everyone’s first priority. They have been available for any questions I have had a long the way. The birds in their foster program are very well cared for, and loved. I am very happy with the rescue, and very happy to have found my girl Polly!

I am the new owner of an African Grey I adopted from “For the love of birds rescue”. This rescue organization walked me through all of the necessary steps to finally come to this heartwarming and amazing ending for my new boy Avery. They put so much time, effort, money and love into rescuing & caring for birds in need of new homes. It may take some time to go through the process, but it is more than worth it in the end when you receive a wonderful avian companion! They assisted with finding a bird who matched my lifestyle and preferences. I want to especially thank Tracy, Joanne and Caryn for all of the guidance and time they put in to help me find my perfect match! Caryn, thank you for providing Avery with a loving foster home and taking the time to make the transition go so smoothly!
They ensure the bird is going into the right environment and they also make it comfortable for the new owner. I recommend this rescue to anybody looking for a new feathered companion.

I lost my beloved cockatiel Nugget in 12/20. I only recently began the process of looking for another cockatiel when I stumbled upon Paulie and George on Petfinders. As I read their backstory, I was absolutely certain they needed to come live with me. Petfinders led me to For the Love of Birds, and I couldn't have asked for a better experience. Joanne was an absolute delight to work with, ,and it was such a pleasure to meet and speak with Caryn, the boys' foster. She clearly knows what she's doing and loves what she does. and I believe that's what makes For the Love of Birds an amazing organization. I happily made a donation in addition to the adoption fee because I want to make sure this excellent program keeps running and doing what it does so well. Thank you FTLOB!

For the Love of Birds made adopting our little flock of 3 bonded parakeets a relatively easy process. I was very happy to see the prerequisites needed to ensure that any bird or birds adopted out receives a safe and ultimately a perfectly matched forever-home. Joan and Patty communicated with me at the highest levels of professionalism while being completely and simultaneously down to earth and exuding love and joy for all the hard work they do for the rescue. I was vetted thoroughly and through them discovered I had a toxic plant from that process - for which I was very grateful to know and remove for the sake of the birds. Visiting the foster family to meet the birds for the first time was also an awesome experience seeing the care and attention they provided as a transitional stepping stone to a more permanent home. The whole process from start to finish was a happy one with a happy ending. I would absolutely recommend For the Love of Birds a million times over to anyone who is interested in adopting a feathered friend. Thank you FtLoB for all that you do and to the new addition and growth of our family!!

We were recently advised, by my husband’s doctor, that there was a possibility that our beloved Amazon parrot, Woodstock, was the cause of his health issues and we may have to surrender him.

The test results came back with positive antibodies to parrot proteins. We were heartbroken and devastated. I couldn’t stop crying. My husband felt terrible. I found For the Love of Birds Rescue through a simple Google search and also contacted our Avian Vet for advice.

Our vet mentioned FTLOB even before I asked him about them. He suggested that I contact them and said he had vetted some of their birds and they were a great organization. I filled out the surrender forms online on 2/2/22. I will never forget that day. I knew this day would come since our parrot is only 22 yo and will outlive us. I just didn’t think it would be this soon.

I received a phone call from one of their foster volunteers shortly afterwards. There is a saying that people come into your life for a reason or for a season. Corinne from FTLOB and I chatted for a while. She explained how the organization works, my options and the thoroughness of the adoptive process. The time she took to talk to me and the empathy and reassurance that was conveyed on that call made me feel so much better about a very difficult situation.

This story has a happy ending – sort of. At the doctor visit on 2/22/22, we were told by the doctor that our parrot was not the cause and we did not have to give him up. Antibodies are common among parrot owners. My husband’s health issues are not gone and he is not out of the woods but this one devastating part of the story is…for now.

The other thing that is not gone is Corinne, who came into my life for a reason. We are still in contact and I have made a new friend. For the Love of Birds will one day have to find a new home for our Woodstock, but when that day comes, I know they will take great care of him and make sure his new forever home is worthy of him and will love him as much as we do.

For the Love of Birds was not an available option when we got our feathered baby decades ago. But If you are someone who loves birds (as much as we do) and are looking for an addition to your family, please consider adopting from FTLOB rather than buying. Take some time to read the stories on the site. The support and resources they offer to both the old and new family is incredible. The work they do is priceless. So please consider donating to this very worthy cause in anyway you can.

I consider myself very fortunate. For the Love of Birds, is a very professional, organized and easy to work with , professional group of people. They have the welfare of the birds as their top priority. I added two cockatiels to our family. A white female, Casper and a grey, orange and yellow male, KiKi. They have added so much love to our family. I can’t thank “For the Love of Birds” enough.

Woring with For The Love of Birds New Jersey has been a joy. I say that because everyone in the organization really has their hearts committed to helping the birds in their care find a great forevery home.

They have a very comprehensive application, and procedures to talk with references and see if your home is going to be suitable for caring for a bird. The adoption counselor was thorough, and also a great source of terrific information about the proper care of birds. I needed this information because I'm a new bird owner. Despite not having bird experience, they decidied to take me under their wing and provide me with the perfect bird for my personality and (lack of) experience.

My guy Max is a Green Cheek Conure. He has a lot of personality in a small package. I had the opportunity to visit with Max as many times as I liked at his foster home, until I felt comfortable with him. The foster mom gave me lots of great information on how to handle him, care for him and what to watch for if he wasn't feelign well.

She also allowed me to spend time with him on my own so that he could get to know me better prior to bringing him home. It was coforting to know that she was close by if anything happened that I didn't know how to handle. She gave me confidence.

Another great thing about the organization is that they have a 24 hour phone line to reach out to if you have questions or problems. They really work to make sure the adoption will succeed on eveyr level. In addition, the foster mom is also available for any questions that might pop up.

Only when you are comfortable, do you take your new companion bird home. But that's not all you take home. I also got his cage, his toys, extra accessories that the bird was surrendered with, fresh food, and even treats. So they really are setting you up for success when you take the bird home.

This has been a great experience for me. I now have a companion bird who will fill my home with happy chirps and cheeps. He's a great personality, and very smart. I'm beginning to train him using a clicker and target stick. He caught on to that on the first day! They have made a successful match for both me and Max.

I highly recommend going through this organization. Their ultimate goal is to place birds in good homes, which will allow them to live long, happy lives. They have procedures in place to insure that the right people are getting the birds, so they don't have to be rehomed again. They provide support after the adoption, to insure that things continue to go well. Max and I say thank you to all the volunteers who work tirelessly to help innocent rescue birds get a second chance for a good life!

For The Love of Birds was so helpful and patient with me, helping me find just the right companion to match my unique lifestyle. We had multiple meetings and if we didn’t make a match we kept trying until we finally did!
“Pearl” and I are learning our schedules and our likes and dislikes through trial and error. He wasn’t even one of the birds I was supposed to meet and now we are a family!
I just can’t thank this rescue enough for all of their help. And it doesn’t end there - now I have even more questions and I know they will be there for me and gladly answer them. Special thanks to Joanne and to Tracy and Caryn who opened their homes to me (and I’m sure to many others before and after me).

We started thinking about getting another caique after our Charlie passed last year. Originally we were going to get a new baby caique but our son was not happy about it and wanted to adopt a rescue instead. A friend of ours who helps out a rescue organization for boxer dogs suggested “For The Love of Birds”.

We looked on their website and found 2 caiques waiting for adoption and emailed them. We received a response so quickly and decided to fill out the adoption application and start the process of adopting Skittles, a black headed caique.

Joann was warm, welcoming and caring and made sure we understood each step of the adoption process from the interview through the visitations to meet and interact with Skittles. Caryn was fantastic with our visitations with Skittles and was great when we asked if she could hold Skittles until after we took our vacation since we didn’t want to bring Skittles home and then go on vacation. She was so flexible with the visitations and the time when we finally picked up Skittles to bring him home. There were toys, food and the cage and the play stand included in the adoption – we donated back the cage and a bunch of toys back to Caryn as soon as Skittles transitioned into the cage we had for him.

Overall, it has been a GREAT experience and I would highly recommend adopting a parrot instead of buying a new parrot and I would absolutely recommend “For the Love of Birds”. There are so many parrots which are fostered and being well cared for by “For the Love of Birds” and they will make sure they match the right family to the right parrot!!!

We came to the decision that it was not fair for our 16 year old Cockatiel to stay with us. Our 4 children are all grown. Two of our four children live with us and we are all employed full time. No one had the time to play with him or pay him any attention. As hard as a decision this was, we felt it was not fair to him.
We found For the Love of Birds and sent them an email explaining our situation. We immediately received a response telling us that while all the foster homes were full, they would definitely be able to help us. It was only a few short weeks later we received a call telling us that a foster home had become available. We contacted the foster home and set a day and time to deliver Lupe. As soon as we met our foster home parents, we knew Lupe was in good hands. A few weeks later we received an email saying he had been adopted and the new owners and Lupe had bonded already. We were so relieved.
I would highly recommend For The Love of Birds to anyone who cannot care for their bird any longer. They really do care for the birds and go through a lengthy process to ensure the birds are going to a good home. For us, we could not imagine a better organization to help us find a new home for our Cockatiel.

After 17 years with our cockatiel Birdie, we sadly had to find him a new home. I found For the Love of Birds on line and filled out the adoption papers hoping to find loving and responsible family for him. I was so impressed with their response and adoption process. Their volunteers contacted me to talk about our situation and find out all about our birds habits and personality. It wasn't long before they contacted me with a potential adoptee. We spoke on the phone, exchanged photos, so that when they came to see Birdie, I knew this was the perfect match. I was so relived to let him go to such a caring family. Its been a couple of months now and I still get updates on his progress. I had a wonderful experience with all the volunteers and give them so much credit for what they do. You really have to have a complete love of birds to give so much of your time to help find safe and loving homes for our feathered friends. All pets are our family so having to surrender them can be heart breaking. I miss my little guy but anytime I've reached out to his new "Mom" she responds with pictures and an update. Its very comforting. This is a wonderful organization of dedicated and caring volunteers, I feel fortunate to have found them and have them handle my birds adoption.

I’m very fortunate to live in NJ where FTLOB operates as after the passing of one of my budgies I chose to adopt a new friend for my remaining winged-pal, Mellow. After reading the bios of birds currently looking for homes, I could tell how much this organization cares about finding the right fit for each one. At every step the vetting process was thorough and professional; the volunteer I worked with had a genuine passion in wanting the best for the birds in her care, and on adoption day when I visited her home to pick up my new budgie friend, Luna, all of this was affirmed.
I would recommend anyone with an appreciation and love of birds look to FTLOB first as this organization treats them with the respect and acknowledgment that they’re intelligent, individual beings deserving of the best life we can provide. I have no doubt from my own experience with them that other potential adopters will feel the same or those making the tough decision to part with their beaked-buddies will be confident that they’ll find a loving and qualified home.

I have been truly blessed by For the love of birds. My lovebird Hulk has been with my son and I since he was only months old. We love him dearly but after having him for almost three years he started to develop health problems. First, I came home to find him in his cage with a fractured beak. This was a horrific experience for him and myself, but I was able to seek medical treatment and he healed perfectly and things seemed to be going well after his surgery. A few months later he started to pick at himself to the point of bleeding, and even after a visit with the vet he wasn’t getting better, and I realized he needed around the clock care that I just couldn’t provide. I also realized my financial situation wouldn’t allow Hulk the proper care he needed. I had to make an extremely difficult decision to surrender him so he would get the care he needed and deserved. I called multiple shelters that explained they did not take birds, and referred me to “wildlife” centers. As Hulk has only known life with my son and I, I started to worry I wouldn’t find a good fit for him where he could be in an environment he would be happy. I held off and continued to search and stumbled across “For the Love of Birds” and reached out to them. I got a call back immediately and he was placed only days later with an amazing family who will foster him and I hope nurse him back to health. When I dropped him off we chatted about Hulk and a plan for him, I immediately knew I made the best decision for him. When I left I was immediately sent pictures of all his new toys and him playing with her kids. I was overwhelmed with joy and realized what a blessing this organization is. I’m looking forward to see hulk progress, we will love him forever and I am forever grateful.

I was interested in adopting a bird- a lovebird to be exact. I found a beautiful yellow bird named Sunnie on Petfinder who was in the care of For the Love of Birds. I filled out the application and was impressed by the thoroughness of the process in which to adopt from them. They clearly know a lot about birds and went above and beyond to make sure I was prepared for a bird and that little Sunnie would be happy in my home. Adoption was definitely the way to go! Sunnie came with everything she needs and then-some, including lots of information and resources so she could be cared for appropriately. Caryn was just wonderful and so very helpful and I am glad that I know I can contact her if I ever need assistance with understanding and caring for my little bird. I am so grateful to For the Love of Birds for helping me to find the perfect little companion.

Our family could not be happier about our experience with "For the Love of Birds"--an animal rescue focused on finding new homes for birds. A little more than a year ago, we were interested in getting a bird, but didn't feel right about buying from a pet store. We contacted this organization and Denise and Tracy helped "match" us. As part of the matching process, they had us fill out an application with references, conducted an interview and a house inspection. It sounds like a lot, but they made it easy and it didn't feel onerous at all. The house inspection also was conducted remotely over FaceTime. They just want to make sure the bird is a good fit for the home and vice versa.

Because this was our first pet, we had a lot of questions and Denise and Tracy were very patient in answering all our questions. We then found Kiko, a beautiful sun conure, who needed a home. Our family fell in love with him and decided to adopt him after visiting him once--with masks on. On our second visit, we were able to take him home and he has been part of our family ever since.

In sum, For the Love of Birds is a great organization with a wonderful mission. They were easy to work with. They have brought our family so much joy and happiness with Kiko. Thank you for all your work. We need more people like you in the world!

I have adopted two birds from "For The Love Of Birds" Cyclops and Kevin. Joanne , on both occasions was extremely informative, I mean, from the very first conversation I was immediately able to tell how much she cares for her foster babies. She was very detailed , she asked a lot of relevant and important questions and was always willing to answer any question as well. At the time of the adoption, I got all the paperwork from her. She explained everything I needed to know. I received a LOT of free supplies for the birds (high quality food, because they care and do love their birds!) including their own cage! !
Joanne text me regularly to ask how things are going.

The birds come disease tested and with their vet visit papers and other important documents.

If you are thinking to adopt a bird, I highly recommend this organization. :)

I have read all the beautiful stories of families adopting birds but I came to For The Love Of Birds for a VERY different reason. My husband was diagnosed with cancer suddenly not long ago and a decision had to be made to surrender our 2 beautiful birds who were with us for 17 and 16 years. Our babies who were a big part of our family could no longer be taken care of the way they deserve to be. I contacted For The Love Of Birds and they came to pick them up before my husband came home from the hospital . To say this organization is a God send and the people who are there to help are angles is a huge understatement. I truly don't know what I would have done in this very difficult situation without their help. I know our babies are very very well taken care of and hopefully will find a forever family but for now I know they are safe and loved. Life can change in a second and to know there is a place and people that have understanding and compassion was a relief I could never put into words. We adopted Rio is May even after his back story was a little scary. We had a green cheek conure before him, so we weren't scared. :) He has been such a blessing to our family. He's got a great personality and loves his bowl baths. Cracks us up when he jumps around on the floor. Each day he trusts us more and more and enjoys being my co-worker and zoom call attendee. We had to give our loving conures - Rio and Tukki for adoption. We chose "For the Love of Birds" based on their ratings, to be honest there are only a very few bird rescue groups. They are light hearted volunteers who love birds, they helped fostering our birds until they are adopted. The volunteer gave us updates by text, photos and videos (it helped us during the heart breaking time). Its been more than a month since our birds are adopted to their forever home, I still receive updates from the volunteer and I'm very thankful for them.

Since we had our baby, we couldn't spend much time with our birds Rio and Tukki. They've developed bad habits trying to seek our attention. I'm very happy that our birds are adopted by someone who can spend enough time to play and take care of them.

Thank you,

My 25yr old cockatiel had passed, so a few years later I was looking to make a home for an older cockatiel. I found a 9yr old from a shelter who's elderly owner had passed, so this male cockatiel came to live with me for the next 9 yrs & I fell in love with this sweet boy instantly. Unfortunately, health issues forced me to sadly find a new home for my now 18yr old very special member of the family. I researched for help on-line and thankfully found the For The Love Of Birds organization, and I'm so glad I did. From the moment I contacted this organization, during a global pandemic mind you, they have been absolutely wonderful, caring, kind, understanding and accommodating. Caryn worked with me to gather as much information about my cockatiel as possible, and then took him in herself in order to help with my heath concerns. Caryn has been an absolute angel, working with my cockatiel in order to find him a forever home, as well as providing me with updates and pictures along the way. Caryn worked tirelessly with my cockatiel to get to know him, and find the best match. Caryn was so excited to share with me that she has since found that perfect match, and my cockatiel was placed in his new forever home. For The Love Or Birds is a wonderful, hard working organization who truly cares about each and every bird and their owner(s). My extremely difficult decision to find a new home for my beloved 18yr old cockatiel was only made bearable due to the kindness and actions shown by the For The Love Of Birds organization. A few years ago my beloved bird decided I was the devil and turned on me. He chose my ten preteen daughter as his new mom. He began to scream and charge the cage and throw heart wings at me if i was anywhere near him in the home. We tried behavioral modification, hormone shots with the vet, years or different strategies but he was miserable. He was only happy if my daughter had him. My daughter now a teen in HS planning college cannot commit to the time my bird needed to be held and played with every day since i couldn't so much as clean the cage without Skittles losing his mind.

We had taken him in as a foster and adoption at 4 years old. He was my bird for 9 years and then "her bird" for 3 more. He stopped playing with toys, it was all aggression all the time. We knew he deserved better. So we spoke with for the love of birds. Once an experienced foster was found (as we were not sure if the happy Skittles my daughter has would go or the angry Skittles i have (Dr Jeckle and Mr Hide) we took a bit of a drive to his new foster mom. I've received updates and they were and are very professional.

This is heartbreaking for our family and they have been so kind. The first thing they did was give us more ideas to try (just as our vet had been doing for years) and they honestly wanted to help us. They are kind caring people who really love birds.

I'm happy to report that after a week Skittles is kissing and being pet and cuddling! Things he used to do but stopped doing here. It's sad, it really was just me that made him miserable. All from a fateful day where i took him off a lamp and he just turned. I miss my buddy, i cried at his drop off but i know i did what is right and this organization did not make me feel anything but positive towards what could be the rest of his life. I know a bird is for life, but my bird needs a chance at a better one. Thank you For the Love of Birds!

In August, we finally picked up our Scooter and he is everything we wanted. friendly to the kids and hand tamed. Coming from someone who is not a first time bird adopter, I can verify that they absolutely do their homework and carefully choose who they place their birds with. I have had multiple conversations with them, they seem very friendly and easy to talk with. The bird they are hoping to place with me seems to be a VERY good fit thus far in the adoption process. The bottom line though....they care very much about their birds and who they place them with.

I went to meet my Pixie (she’s a 5 yr old parrotlet) and her foster mom, Corrine, who was nothing short of amazing. She had taken such great care of her while they were finding her forever home. Pixie is my little girlfriend now and I can’t thank them enough for all they have done. It takes special people to do what they do everyday and they certainly live up to every expectation of that.

For the love of birds is awesome! Doing great things for birds in need. If you considered getting a companion bird, do your research and adopt one.

My 23 year old cockatiel, Stormy, passed away, so I decided to adopt 2 Cockatiels in his memory. I submitted an application to For the Love of Birds and was able to adopt 2 while face bonded males. The adoption process was very thorough which I thought was so great. Thanks to Joanne & her team!!! They are an A+++ organization!!!! Photo of Benny & Bobby attached!!!

I've adopted twice from For the Love of Birds and received not only the gift of wonderful creatures to nurture but countless forms of support and advice. In addition to rescuing countless feathered creatures, FTLOB members tirelessly vet new bird parents, perhaps one of the most important tasks of rehoming. I'd give this group 10 stars if I could.

I adopted my Nanday Conure from FTLOB in November 2017. I can’t say enough positive things about this organization. Very open with communication, foster dad was very easy to work with, they provide the cage and food for your adopted bird for a smooth transition. Definitely consider FTLOB when you’re looking for a rescue bird! Adopt don’t shop!

I have been working with some of these men and women for many years , and others only a short time, but we all work well together and love what we do .
Although life is busy for us all, we somehow find the time it takes to help all these birds that need and depend on our help .
Tough at times, stressful, and sometimes sad, but the joy of finding just the right home for the birds in our care out ways all the rest :)

Joanne and Caryn and all the foster bird parents are angels for what they do. We met Joanne at the first Adoptathon at the Horse Park in 2016, and submitted our application for the next lovebird who needed a forever home. Janey became available, and we got to meet Caryn who was fostering her. After a few months of settling in with Janey, we thought Janey would like company. When another lovebird became available, we let For the Love of Birds know we had room for another lovebird in our home. Indie is young and energetic and very entertaining. Janey loves her swing, and they both enjoy eating and shredding the organic kale we give them. Our birds came with lots of detailed care instructions. If we have any questions we know we can reach out and get help. it was pretty cool when we went to Platinum Parrot (Manahawkin-nearest food supply to home) and they knew For the Love of Birds . It has been a wonderful experience adopting and sharing this rescue with others.
