Mission: Food for people is working to eliminate hunger and improve the health and well-being of our community through access to healthy and nutritious foods, community education and advocacy.
Programs: Direct distribution program - the food bank coordinates the direct distribution of food throughout all designated program areas, and also oversees the direct distribution of food through its choice pantry to 1,137 families or households on average each month.
backpacks for kids program - this program provides a backpack filled with kid-friendly food each friday during the school year for children who are considered at risk for hunger over the weekend. The program served more than 500 children at 35 schools.
pantry network program - this program provides food for seventeen food pantries and three congregate meal programs (soup kitchens) located throughout humboldt county. An average of approximately 2,521 households were served each month through all pantries, and an average of 12,840 meals were served each month by congregate meal sites.
