Thank you for welcoming our team from American Association of University Women. I have done other food packing events over the years, but I was particularly impressed by the terrific organization, planning, and spirit at Food Finders. I look forward to joining you again and will happily tell friends about this experience!

I've been volunteering with Food Finders since 2019. In that time there have been several opportunities
they have given me to help with their primary goal of rescuing and distributing food that would have otherwise gone to waste. I've also gotten to be a part of delivering to Elementary and High Schools boxes and grocery bags of food items along with dropping off turkeys at Thanksgiving time to be given out.
One key item that keeps my interest in continuing volunteering is the dedication displayed by the individuals I've have the pleasure to interact with at Food Finders. From their Director to the Warehouse staff, the commitment to their mission is quite evident and inspiring to see.
If anyone is looking to support a nonprofit, either thru volunteering with one of the many opportunities available, or thru financial donations, Food Finders is highly recommended.

I've had the privilege of volunteering with Food Finders, a wonderful organization dedicated to rescuing food that might otherwise go to waste and redirecting it to those in need. Each Saturday, I help transport fresh, unsellable food from a grocery store to a women’s shelter, and I feel firsthand the impact of this meaningful work. Knowing that food that would’ve gone to waste is instead nourishing people who need it is immensely rewarding.

The charity’s commitment to reducing food waste while supporting vulnerable communities is inspiring, and the process is both well-organized and deeply fulfilling. Their app makes it very easy to sign up for a recurring route each week or just to pick up a one-time rescue when you happen to have time.

It’s incredible to see the immediate, positive difference we can make by redistributing food to people who genuinely need it. I highly recommend anyone looking to volunteer or support a charity with tangible results consider supporting Food Finders—it’s a wonderful way to contribute to the community and make a real impact!

I started volunteering with Food Finders when they launched their Food Rescue app. I was impressed with how easy it was for volunteers to find and complete a local food rescue so that extra food that would normally go to waste could get into the hands of people in our community who need it.

I have also brought my co-workers to the Food Finders warehouse to help sort and pack food for their Food for Kids program. This program provides food to kids at 40+ local schools that they can take home for the weekend.

After volunteering with Food Finders for a few years and being impressed with the work they do and the dedication of their employees, I recently joined their Board of Directors. I’m excited to do more to help Food Finders serve those who are food insecure in our community.

I have been involved the past 2 years by finding businesses to donate items for the yearly gala, 2-3 times per year at a food distribution and bring donated food from my church to food finders.
I find this organization incredible in how with limited resources that make such a huge impact on the food insecurity in Southern California. The staff are driven to make a difference and are always professional.

I’ve had the privilege of learning about and supporting the "Food4Kids" program by Food Finders, and I’m truly impressed by the positive impact it has on local students and families. This initiative addresses a critical issue—childhood hunger—and works tirelessly to ensure that no child goes without a nutritious meal, particularly during school breaks when access to food might be more limited.

What stands out most about "Food4Kids" is its holistic approach to combating hunger. The program not only provides food, but also focuses on the quality and nutritional value of the meals. These are carefully curated to meet the needs of growing children, offering balanced meals that fuel both their academic success and overall well-being.

The delivery system is also thoughtfully designed to minimize barriers for families. Providing meals to students during school holidays, the program ensures that children don’t miss out on essential nourishment, regardless of their home situation.

One of the things I really appreciate about this initiative is the level of community engagement. Volunteers, local businesses, and donors all come together to support the program, creating a strong network of support for children in need. This sense of community is vital, not only in alleviating hunger but also in fostering a spirit of collective responsibility and care for our youngest generation.
Overall, Food Finders and the "Food4Kids" program is an invaluable resource for families facing food insecurity. It has a direct, tangible impact on the health and well-being of children, helping to ensure they can focus on learning and growing, rather than worrying about where their next meal will come from.

If you’re looking for a way to make a real difference in your community, supporting Food Finders and its "Food4Kids" initiative is a great way to contribute to both immediate needs and long-term change. I wholeheartedly recommend this program and the work of Food Finders. They are doing incredible things for children, and their work truly matters.

I have volunteered for FoodFinders from as long back as Arlene Mercer giving food out of her( and my) trunks. The organization has grown and delivers the best service for the needy communities that we serve.
I routinely haul ½-¾ ton of foods of all types to various organizations twice a week. Iy is very rewarding to see the results as people line up for supplies to help them get through.

Food Finders has been fighting food insecurity in Southern California for more than 30 years. They are always adding new programs to meet the growing needs of the community. They have a food rescue program that keeps millions of food out of landfills annually, and a Food4Kids program to offer weekend food for kids and their families who rely on school meals during the week for sustenance. They have a refrigerated food hub to provide fresh produce to non-profits serving the community and it’s home to their monthly food distribution. This organization is truly incredible.

Food Finders is a tremendous organization serving the greater Long Beach, CA area. Food Finders rescues food to supply local agencies with meals for the food insecure residents of Long Beach; provides meal boxes weekly to 47 Long Beach area schools so needy families have food to eat on the weekends; and supports and maintains community food hubs accessible by local residents to source nutritious food. I couldn't be prouder to be a Board Member and volunteer for this essential and loved organization.

I recently joined the Board of Food Finders and am so pleased that I did so. Food Finders serves two critical needs --- it rescues perfectly good food that would otherwise be wasted and distributes that food to shelters, pantries, missions and other places that feed folks in need. It's such a simple and brilliant idea! And Food Finders' dedicated staff and volunteers execute its mission brilliantly.

I've been on the Board and a Director for years. Food Finders has grown tremendously during that time...serving 5 Southern California counties, providing millions of meals, reducing carbon, saving water, and help millions of pounds of food get to those that need it, instead of landfills.

The staff and volunteers are awesome and everyone is passionate about rescuing food and feeding people. I regularly also do a food "run" and our donors and recipients are very appreciative, and we appreciate them.

First off, their mission is right up my alley. Rescuing food (that is perfectly still edible) and reducing food waste (and all the sustainable benefits that come with that) and redirecting to communities in need, is a perfect match. Their staff are great (shout out to Kevin, Diana and Maria!). I feel like most non-profits are behind technologically. Food Finders is NOT most non-profits. They use modern technology to really maximize and mobilize volunteer efforts. They partner with so many communities, organizations and other nonprofits to maximize their impact. I personally don't like seeing donated funds go to "fluffy" things like galas and fancy events. They are very intentional about their use of funds and I feel good about my money and time going there. They truly are phenomenal.

What a great organization who is making a big impact in LA. I have been a volunteer with Food Finders for 2+ years now picking up and delivering food to partnering agencies. The experience of meeting the food donors and agencies is a humbling and rewarding. I am ever so amazed on how much food (over 8 million lbs in 2016 to be exact) that is diverted from going into landfills and goes towards humans. The amount of food, Food Finders picks up is still a drop in the bucket compared to what other food is out there. This is the best non-profit organizations in my opinion that is rethinking how we see food overages in the community.

I've volunteered for Food Finders for about 3 years. In this time, I've watched in amazement as they've fed literally millions of people. Run by a caring & very organized staff along with some awesome volunteers, this team takes food that would have otherwise been sent to a landfill, and gets it into the hands of the organizations and people who need it the most.

Their fundraising events are creative, fun, well attended and always successful. Food Finders keeps up with little-known food waste laws. This not only benefits millions of meal recipients, but the restaurants and other businesses that need to properly dispose of their extra food.

In addition to saving and redistributing hundreds of tons of surplus food each year, Food Finders is also a partner to "Team 100," a group of men in Long Beach that fund a "Food for Long Beach Kids" program (see http://team100lb.org).

Seventy percent of students in the Long Beach Unified School District are lower-income and qualify for in-school meal programs. Many of those students, however, miss meals on the weekends. Team 100 raises more than $100k annually and partners with Food Finders to deliver 20-25 bags of food to the district's 17 Title 1 elementary schools each Friday, so the neediest families in those schools have a bag of food for a family of 5 to last the weekend. The program, expertly administered by Food Finders, provides hundreds of thousands of meals annually to some of Long Beach's most economically challenged households. They are a FANTASTIC organization!

As a person whom has worked for several years in the operations of a Food Bank within the greater Long Beach and Orange County Food Bank circuit, I can say with authority that no other contributor of repurposed food stuffs comes close in the magnitude of help given weekly to food banks of all shapes and sizes within these districts. Born from a vision started in a homeowner's garage some years ago into a multi-million yearly pound saver of foods destined for waste, Food Finders is the beginning of a revolutionary movement underway in our country to redistribute unsold foods to those in genuine need and those living below the poverty line. Please join myself and countless others involved in the movement and make a contribution to one of the most worthy grass-roots causes to emerge in many decades.

My friend Sheryl Worley introduced me to Food Finders in 2007 and started assisting her in her rounds. It was also at this time that I was doing Bible College and needed a practical ministry involvement. Food Finders came to mind. After the usual procedural steps, I was assigned a store and the places for drop off. There began my weekly journey of pickup and drop offs.

At first I only had one or two places for drop off but as provision would multiply, I would also receive more recipients. I was dropping off supply at food banks, community outreaches such as soup kitchen, different non-profit organizations or ministries serving the impoverished. It all depended on how much supply there was that day.

The work was very fulfilling that instead of stopping once my practical ministry classes were over and hours fulfilled, I continued on and on and on. It became a way of life. Volunteering became addictive that I added more volunteer work into my daily routine.

I had so much joy seeing faces light up when they receive free food or other services. Soon, casual relationships began deepening into real friendships. One kind act would snowball and duplicate itself.

Within two years the supply grew and drop off recipients multiplied. Two hours became 4 or 5 sometimes, depending on the bulk. I would also be called to cover for someone else, and I would oblige. Because of abundant supply and provision from others, another group of recipients developed: mothers with children and those temporarily out of work. Many from that group moved from being recipients to being volunteer helpers and who then gave back to others as they recovered financially.

The work was growing. It was at this time that my husband and I started involving others in the ministry that we were part of (Walking With Jesus Ministry CA). We were also able to bring in two other non-profit and religious organizations to help out as volunteers and also be the recipients so that the food can be distributed to the less fortunate in their churches.

We served three years and some months as volunteers until we recently moved away from the Southern California area. We miss the precious times of serving and the relationships and friendships that have been built. BUT, we hope we can serve alongside Food Finders again in the future. Maybe a WA State office can be established? ;-)

We will always treasure and carry in our hearts the joy of knowing that we are and were part of a common good.

We thank Sheryl Worley, my dearest friend who is now in New Mexico, for having invited me to serve with her!

We thank Food Finders, most especially, for having given us that opportunity to serve alongside them. What they do is life-saving!

The church I attend has a hot meal program, sack lunch, program, shower program, and a food pantry. Food Finders brings us bread and baked goods each week which helps with all of these programs. Our food pantry gets enough to serve sweets with coffee while people wait in line, sometimes for hours. The hot meal program, served two Saturdays a month gets enough bread to serve with our lunch and to give loaves & buns away as people leave.

The products are so appreciated and helps us keep our costs down and provide more for the people we serve.

What a blessing Food Finders! Without Food Finders, we at Christian Outreach in Action (a non-denominational social services agency in downtown Long Beach that serves each day a breakfast and a dinner to whomever is hungry, whoever they are, and with no strings attachec), we would not be able to sustain the hundreds of homeless and low income people we help each week. Without Food Finders, we are Rising TIDE (an after-school program serving an average of over 100 urban children and youth each) would not be able to provide kids who often do not have adequate nutrition a protein-rich dinner with fruits and vegetables. Not only has Food Finders been faithful and generous, the staff and volunteers have been gracious and enjoyable to work with.

Food Finders does not only help people who need food but, also pets. Friends of Long Beach Animals has partnered with them for 3 years now in collecting people and pet food for those in need mostly in the Long Beach area through our Mayors, Bob Foster, Holiday Food Drive. Though funds were low this year year probably because of the economy we were still able to help many pets in need and was able to take a large box of food over to them. They are the greatest, and thoughout the year they raise funds for their program through a high-class thrift store which I have purchased many quality gifts from.

I have been working wth FoodFinders for approximateoy two (2) years.
During that time, I have picked over a ton of food that would have otherwise spoiled or been disposed of into our land fill.

This food went to several organizations that make sure it is made available to those in our community who so desperately need the extra nurishment in these very difficult times.

I've been very impressed with the people at Food Finders--so generous, so full of common sense--they just PUT TOGETHER those who have and those who need! No nonsense. They set a wonderful example for our community!

I am so proud to be able to say this organization is based in my hometown of Long Beach. What is so marvelous about Food Finders is that they will pick up what other organizations deem as "too small" of a donation, and yet it is perfectly good food and picking it up from the restaurant, store, etc. means that there are two winners - the restaurant/store who feels better donating food rather than throwing it away and the hungry people who now get something to eat.

We are living in challenging times. People who have volunteered at food banks are now finding themselves customers.

Food Finders generously supports the Long Beach Area community on a daily basis. Through their store FindersKeepers, which I frequent, great items are available at reasonable prices - everything from furnature to linens. Every sale helps a person. Through their outreach, they provide foods and goods of all kinds to less fortunate families and agencies helping people. Nothing is better than knowing Food Finders is working every day to support the hungry, cold and less fortunate.

Both my church and I have donated to Food Finders, both money and articles for resale in their shop. We are very impressed by their ability to procure thousands of pounds of food each week from caterers, restaurants and grocery stores and distribute it, using volunteers, to not-for-profit agencies in the Long Beach area that have feeding programs for the homeless, and well as resident programs for those in need and in recovery. They do it all on a shoe-string budget, and with very little fanfare. But the good they do is incalculable, and many local agencies would be at a great loss without their efforts.

Food Finders is an amazing organization. I met founder Arlene Meyer at a professional gathering for nonprofit leaders. She shared her story of starting Food Finders to help serve the community and prevent waste of resources. Once, this organization picked up a surplus of fresh pineapples from the Port of Long Beach. That beautiful fruit didn't go to waste, it was distributed out to needy organizations at no charge. Every donation to this organization makes a difference in someone's life, whether it is a single can of food or a fat check.

Food Finders has been a blessing to our organization, as we receive some of their donated food for our families. We have seen, especially of late, that many of the families we'er serving are struggling to make ends meet at the end of the month and need some groceries to hold them over until their next paycheck. Food finders enables us to provide these families with some bags of groceries and fresh produce to help them until they can be paid again.

Food Finders, centrally located here in Long Beach, is the true brainchild of one individual. Arlene Mercer had the idea, after seeing how much perfectly edible food was thrown away every year, to start an effort to get the supplies to needy, hungry people. Now, more than 30 years later, Food Finders is giving to agencies all through SoCal to help to ease hunger pains. They find creative ways to provide; our mayor actively spearheads a drive throughout and beyond the holiday season. Even better (in my animal-loving opinion), the organization has teamed up to provide pet food as well--pets are family, too!

Food Finders, according to its website, has only nine employees but over 300 volunteers intent on helping needy individuals. I donate every years. Want to join me?

Foodfinders supports several of the community service organizations that I am involved with, amongst them the Urban Drop-in Center which feeds 350 homeless people on Sundays, St. Francis center which feeds the poor and homeless dinners Mon-Fri, and Centro Shalom, who help immigrants and the working poor with food, clothing and legal aid. (all in Long Beach, CA) All of the interactions with FoodFinders have been so smooth, so professional. Everything runs like a clock (unusual in non-profits!) and is done with so much consideration and respect for their clients. I can't say enough about them!

I am the Vice-President for the Long Beach Basket Brigade. We are a local agency that has had the priviledge to work with Food Finders for the past 7 years. They have been crucial in identifying hundreds of Long Beach families in need of food and assisting us in our mission to serve them. This past year Food Finders assisted us in feeding 826 Long Beach families in need. They are a tremendous value to our community and deserve any financial assistance available. They are a true example of service and action!

As a director of volunteers, it is almost always a sure bet that potential volunteers will decide to work for FF. Their mission, vision and service seem to be a perfect match for someone that is looking to volunteer, without a lot of "pre-training" and emotional attachment to individual clients. Volunteers are able to work at varied schedules which appeals to those still in the workforce as well as those retired. The flexibility of the assignment is a valuable asset in the recruitment of volunteers. And the work they accomplish is amazing!

My partner and I have worked for Food Finders for two years. Our route is to transfer food on the 3rd Sunday of each month from the Weston Hotel Sunday Brunch (leftovers) to The Drop In Center (food kitchen, computer lab, safe haven) held in the First Congregational Church downtown Long Beach. When we arrive at the church, there are people, (families, couples, homeless, disabled) standing in line around the block. This is only one of several food kitchens in the downtown Long Beach area, and the need for food is overwhelming. The Weston leftovers supplement the food prepared at the Drop in Center. Food Finders is doing everything they can to support, but there is a larger demand than supply. This is an amazing organization which really helps people in need with a unique idea to reduce waste and move excess food directly to those in need. GO FOODFINDERS!

I had heard about a food drive from my postal worker. I left food for them and read about FF. they are not far from my home so I wnent into the store and learned more. I like that they pick food up from store, restaurants, bakeries, peoples homes(fruit from trees) so that all of this stays out of dumps and provides food for agencies that serve the cities poor. I have assisted in food drive, driven food to agencies when parties have had excess and seen first hand that it is not wasted. this nonprofit uses all money to serve the poor and needs this help. Although most what we get is by way of food, we also need money to pay staff to arrange of food delivery and many other processes needed to keep FF going. thank you

Shortly after retirement,I began to explore different avenues that could benefit by my participation. My life changed when I met Arlene Mercer, founder and director of an extraorinary organization called "Food Finders". My search for fullfillment ended as my envolvement grew in becoming a productive asset to the growth and well being to my community and city. Along with volunteering to pick up excess goods from local markets, I then delivered them direct to the approved needy agencies. This routine became as necessary to me as breathing in and breathing out. With all the heartwarming smiles, god bless you's, see you next week and always the many thank you's made me realize what a difference I was making in so many lives. The joy of giving. For the big picture, of which all the volenteers are a part, Food Finders for the year 2010 have collected seven million lbs. of food and served approximately 50,000 meals per day. Some searh for a pot of gold at the end of rainbow. I found mine in my own backyard--Me! The pot of gold is my health and ability to better serve my community and my rainbow is made up of all the people that I service and together we create a GlOW felt by all.

The amount of food that Food Finders provides for those in need is almost beyond belief. Donors, many of whom were throwing out food that had reached the "sell by" date, are happy to have found an organization that gets this food into the hands of people that need it the most.

Food Finders are a wonderful organization that has come along side us - Calvary Chapel Emanuel - to help meet the physical needs of many precious souls in the Hispanic community living in the city of Orange, California. Many families which are going through tough economic times are touched weekly by the love of Jesus as we teach the Word of God and then provide hundreds of pounds of bread, milk, cheese, eggs, fruit, vegetables and other delicious and nutritious foods we are able to serve them every week with the help from Food Finders.

Last June, I delivered over 40 hams to a Substance Abuse House here in Long Beach (donated by Trader Joe's). They were very high quality, averaging $35 each ham.

The next time I came to deliver more food, the cook came out to tell me he put the hams in the freezer to save for Father's Day Sunday dinner.
And that they were the most delicious hams the men had ever had. He said it meant a lot to them to have a special meal since they were not able to be with their own kids on Father's Day. He said some had tears running down their faces as they enjoyed the ham dinner.

From the day I contacted Food Finders in February of 2008 I was highly impressed. They were highly organized and matched my interests, skills and personal schedule with my desires to volunteer for them.
I was also allowed to bring my young daughter with me to do the food pick ups from Ralphs Grocery store and drop offs to local homeless shelters. She benefited greatly from this eye opening experience.

When I re-encountered Food Finders, as the Volunteer Coordinator at The Volunteer Center of Long Beach, I was delighted! I sent them court referred volunteers and Food Finders statf was helpful and grateful for our efforts. Late last year my family and I helped pack food boxes for the poor and homeless. The project was superbly organized!

Food Finders is a high quality, professional and caring group.

Beacon of Hope is so blessed to partner with Food Finders which gave us the opportunity to meet the needs of so many more families here in our local community. We pick-up food from two store locations now and our volunteers are so proud to distribute fresh quality food to our participants. We are now feeding over 250 families per month. Thanks Food Finders! "There but for the grace of God go I"
Seeing as many people who are going hungry, who are unemployed and have many mouths to feed as I do the employed, it gladdens my heart to know that there are people out there from all walks of life and all occupations who care enough to lend a helping hand. For some, this means driving to pick up and deliver food from the gracious suppliers to those who can and will use it. The food and goods help all of us, whether we are on the receiving end of it or not, it saves the suppliers money from food or items that may have gone into dumps or landfills, and it helps those who are just trying to survive.
I've done both pickup and delivery, and I've also seen the faces of those who come looking for a helping hand. They come in all age, ethnic, and religious backgrounds. Helping them helps me, it helps give us better neighborhoods, and cuts down on some of the potential crime committed by those who might otherwise be driven to it by necessity.

Food Finders embodies the spirit of being a good neighbor. I stumbled upon their thrift store and decided I'd like to donate my goods there, too. Each time, the staff helped me with the donation, even sending a vehicle and volunteer movers on three different occasions (they picked up a couch, a desk, and came at the end of my garage sale to pick up the remaining items for sale. It makes me want to help them succeed in their mission to make sure people have something healthy to eat.

Like most non-profits in the area, the volunteers are seniors and I worry that not enough young people are stepping up to carry the torch. That is what happened to a non-profit I served on...the volunteers died and the young people had to work.

Food Finders rescues excess food and takes it to where it is needed. It is directly delivered to children's homes, family shelters, missions, homes for unwed mothers, battered women and children, rehabilitation centers, senior centers, boys & girls clubs, youth programs, church food ministries and others. This helps solve the hunger problem and stops food waste as well as draws people into programs where they can get what they need to build a better future- such as basic life skills, english second language classes, parenting skills, job skills. Through providing food, referrals for resources, and networking Food Finders helps build a better community for all.

The Drop-In-Center (a program of Urban Community Outreach of Long Beach, CA) offers a safe and appropriate place "out of the glare" every Sunday afternoon for up to over 500 homeless and needy people downtown. I used to spend time on Saturday seeking food donations from the vendors at a local Certified Farmers Market and could collect 40 or 50 pounds of produce every week. Food Finders heard I was doing that and before I knew it there were 2 or 3 teams of their volunteers picking up 80-100 pounds of potatoes, carrots, oranges, lettuce and other wholesome fresh produce the farmers generously offered. Not only that, but those same Food Finders folks would then show up the next day to volunteer with us at the Drop-In-Center. I am so happy to be on the receiving end of some of Food Finders' 80 million pounds of food deliveries.

Food Finders has become the "go to" organization whenever a nonprofit organization has an event on behalf of its clients and has budget concerns. I know that they've been crucial in making connections between businesses that have excess food to contribute and our downtown Sunday Drop-In Center for the Homeless at the First Congregational Church. They serve scores of such organizations each month.
