Programs: Since the inception in 1982, the food bank of the albemarle has distributed more than 72 million pounds of food to benefit the needy and food insecure across 15 counties in northeastern north carolina complrised of bertie, beaufort, camden, chowan, currituck, dare, gates, hertford, hyde, martin, northampton, pasquotank, perquimans, tyrrell, and washington. 4 million pounds in 2016-2017 that equates to 6,955,178 valued at 1. 73 per pound as determined annually by feeding america, the national network of food banks.
usda commodity program the emergency food assistance program (tefap) we distributed 978,453 pounds of commodity food to more than 4,300 households each month across 13 counties in northeastern north carolina comprised of bertie, beaufort, camden, chowan, currituck, dare, gates, hertford, hyde, martin, pasquotank, perquimans, and tyrrell counties valued at 731,826. The usda commodity program - commodity supplemental food program (csfp) we distributed 204,541 pounds of commodity food to 1,651 seniors 60 years old and older earning below 130% of poverty in bertie, chowan, hertford, martin, northhampton, perquimans and pasquotank counties valued at 173,360.
