Mission: The mission of food bank association of new york state is to ensure that every person in every community has access to good healthy food and to lead a unified effort for a hunger-free state of new york. The mission of food banking is to obtain food and deliver it to emergency food programs. The association works to end hunger by assisting the food bank network in obtaining food and funds, fostering public awareness of the food banks' mission, and creating partnerships to help alleviate hunger in the state of new york.
Programs: Engaged in public forums and outreach venues to discuss hunger alleviation, public nutrition, and the need for more resources to feed new york state's growing hunger problem. Through outreach to new york state farmers and producers, the association assisted in the donation of millions of pounds of produce and farm product to the food banks. The association manages a statewide venison donation program through a contract with the new york state department of health which generated 61,034 pounds of lean, high protein meat donated to the food banks. Additional food resourcing programs are coordinated with the manufacturing, retail, and transportation industries. The association created numerous partnerships with other public and private organizations to enhance public awareness of the food banks and its anti-hunger mission. The association helps facilitate statewide food bank initiatives dealing with food quality, healthy diets, and food pantry-soup kitchen best practices. Additionally, the association networks with various food industry and private sector business, and farm and industry trade groups to encourage food donations and support for the food banks at the state and regional levels.
