Mission: The mission of the Flying Leatherneck Historical Foundation is to preserve the history of USMC aviation, honor military service and inspire in all generations an appreciation of America's freedoms and the heroes who fought bravely to protect those freedoms.
Results: Approximately 30,000 individuals visit the museum annually. More than 1,000 students participate in either the patriotically-themed essay or art contest each year. The wife of an active duty Marine is recognized every year for her contributions to the USMC and society. The website actively engages individuals from around with the world with the stories and history of USMC aviation. There is a large and growing social media following and forums for students to ask questions. Retired military pilots and aircrew serve as school field trip guides and also visit classrooms both in-person and virtually.
Target demographics: All generations understand the contributions, courage and sacrifices of the people of USMC aviation and the role they have played in defending America.

Programs: The Foundation provides funds and volunteers to operate the Flying Leatherneck Aviation Museum at MCAS Miramar. It also hosts patriotically-themed student essay and art contests, honors the spouse of an active duty Marine each year and provides military guest speakers for in-person and virtual classroom visits. The Foundation supports an interactive website that makes if possible for individuals from around the world to learn about USMC and U.S. history. It also supports a research center.
